The rustic house was thick with refreshing wood scent, the wooden flooring so cosy on foot. I stayed here four nights, as to fulfill my desire trekking the entire loop between Magome to Tsumago. It was easy commute from Iwamura to Nakatsugawa, the main point that connected with Magome in 35 min bus ride. Unexpectedly, my stay here evolved to something impressive beyond my trekking goals. The Iwamura old town streets, the foggy mountains ringing the town, the neighbourhood in warm hello and smiles, landmark sake brewery tasting, chestnut desserts, izakaya meals, Green Herbs Italian cuisine, Iwamura castle ruins walk, etc.....and the most jovial host Toki-san who exudes great charm in conversation despite our language barriers. She could speak basic english and strive to learn too. She has such feverish enthusiasm to engage with guests, make them feel living in homely house, and go beyond extra miles to help. I want to dedicate my greatest gratitude for Toki-san kindness bringing me to train station on rainy day. I want to say a big thanks again and again for the superb snacks only from Iwamura town. Such a tranquil and sacred town, as the hearts of the local folks. Million thanks for creating HAPPY moments for me to remember forever, for joyful reason. Thank you!

Outstanding property which exceeded our expectations in all fronts. Peaceful, clean and such a great example of ryokan hospitality in rural Japan. Toki is an exceptional host who warmed our hearts with friendly and loving care - using google translate we had alot of laughs. You are a very special person Toki and definitely a highlight of our trip. Toki was very helpful with organising things with and for us and Iwamura is a beautiful quiet town with no westerners. Lovely old building in the middle of Iwamura. Lovely lady that keeps has the hostel, doesnt speak English but is very kind and with some google-translation and sign-language that wasn't a problem. She gave me a good recommendation for restaurant and she waved me goodbye at the train station, so nice.

A wonderful stay in this charming inn within an equally charming town. The woman who runs the inn was incredibly accommodating and welcoming and could not have been more friendly and helpful. She helped me find a wonderful dinner in this off the beaten track historic town which was an absolute delight. The guest house is clean and comfortable and I would recommend it to any traveler looking for an authentic experience.

A courteous senior runs the guest house. She explained the operation and rules using translator. The guest house is newly renovated and it retains traditional wooden structure and flooring. It is warm and cozy in chilly autumn. That night I was the only one in the dorm. Travellers staying in other rooms were understanding. I had a sound sleep.

Great location, we were there in time for the festival! Room is clean and everything is ready for use. You can use the tatami room for free to chill with your friends. All essential facilities are available.

The room itself is a little small, not much room for luggage. But for the price we paid, it is totally acceptable!

The host was really helpful (even though we don't share a language) - she helped us out a lot and recommended a great local izakaya. Rooms were a decent size. The facilities are shared, but they were of a good standard. The location in Iwamura was great - it is a picturesque rural Japanese town, with a nice walk up to the castle ruins. We were only a short drive away from Magome and Tsumago

The location was great, right in the middle of the village. The owner was amazing, very nice and friendly lady. The place was very clean. It was like being in a home and it felt very welcoming. I've met nice travelers there.

Hostess Toki was fantastic. She made dinner reservations for us in town, provided directions to the castle ruins and met us at the train station when we were leaving to start our trek on Nakasendo Trail. We were a group of 4 and had the whole place to ourselves, which was lovely.

We loved everything.

The location and facilities were excellent. With a traditional exterior and modern interior, this was a very pleasant and enjoyable stay. The showers were great and the kitchen was well equipped. The guesthouse was in close walking distance to a shopping district, as well as a few restaurants in the area. The host was very kind and considerate, and had some good recommendations.

The walls are quite thin, so unfortunately if you have loud neighbours staying in the guesthouse too, you may have some discomfort sleeping.
