The staff there are really lovely. They offered to change our room when noticed we were next door to a newborn baby as the walls are thin in this comfortable and calming Ryokan. The breakfast onigiri making was cute. The location is right near the station. The air conditioning and rooms were comfortable and relaxing spaces. They have a bar on site and offered a free drink to guests which was a nice surprise. Would definitely recommend.

No en suite facilities were available / so there are shared bathrooms. But tbh it wasn't really an issue. Just consider this if you're a couple. Tatami mat floor / futon beds are a little thin and so could maybe be thicker for sleepers with back issues or other problems.

We stayed at this Ryokan as a family of 4 and had a great time. Our 12yo had fun making Origami while our 18yo was working on the puzzle. Everything was clean and the room was spacious. It is also a few minutes walk from the bus/train station. The staff was so helpful and when we discovered we made a mistake in our reservation and were missing a night, even though the Ryokan was already full (and they didn’t owe us anything, because it was our mistake) they offered us an Airbnb they operated close by without additional cost. That was so helpful and nice of them.

We found the accommodation great. It was easy to find and near to the bus/rail stations. Check in and out was easy and staff helpful. The rooms were basic but clean and adequate for what we needed. Be aware men and women stay on different floors which was not a problem for us. There was a free drink on arrival and free tea/coffee available in the communal area. The breakfast was simple and basic (powdered soup options, bread/croissant and tea/coffee) but we found this sufficient for our start of the day.

We had no problems with the accommodation but just be aware it’s shared facilities and the walls are quite thin so noise could be a slight issue. We had no issues during our stay as the other guests staying were all considerate and kept the noise down (there are signs asking guests to be quiet).

This neat and comfortable guesthouse was a comfortable base for us as we walked out from here to start our journey on the Nakasendo Way. Staff provided us with very helpful updates and suggestions on local events. Our room and associated shared bathroom facilities were comfortable and clean. Walls between rooms are thin, but when we stayed, other guests were considerate, and it was not a problem. The central location of the guesthouse is super convenient. It is a short walk from the train station.

Some noise from traffic and the street in the early evening.

Everything was amazing and comfortable. We booked this ryokan to experience the authentic Japanese culture in the countryside and we were beyond impressed with our stay. Very peaceful and lovely atmosphere. Initially we were worried for the shared bathroom situation but it was clean and comfortable! We had no issues and there were separated bathrooms for men and women. The room we booked was very spacious perfect size for a group of friends, or family! The location was also very convenient, only a 2 minute walk from Nakatsugawa station. Our group planned on hiking the Magome to Tsumago trail and it was convenient for us to get there! They had also offered free breakfasts and even an onigiri making experience which was a pleasant surprise! We definitely recommend this stay and will be back when we travel near there again! Thank you so much!

Only concern was that there was no elevator to go up to the room so we had to lug our luggage up the stairs but the staff were really nice and helped us!

Comfortable, clean and friendly stay in a well designed hotel. It’s well located and offers a free car parking space. Great place to stop for the Nakasendo trail. We really liked the quiet town/city of Nakatsugawa too with some nice eateries. I also got the massage/reflexology offered in the lobby which was perfect after walking around all day. You can also your laundry in the coin facilities provided.

It is a little small in the rooms but that was expected. A few more hooks in the rooms and the bathroom/toilet sink area would be a great addition too. Otherwise all good!

They helped us out with sending the luggage. There was also English material to read Close to the station Thematic rooms (and names) The lend out a plate to us, which we could use, was great. All shower products were “Dove”.

They recommended nakasendo luggage service, but even considering the delivery on the same day, way overpriced for what you get. They still made sure our sawaga delivery was done, this worked fine in our situation (not same day delivery). Shared bathrooms and toilets. Noisy rooms and we had the room with the washing rooms next door…

Excellent location for accessing Nakatsugawa train station and for getting to Magome post town to hike the Nakasendo trail. Friendly reception with great communal area around the lobby and bar. Both rooms and public areas were extremely clean and well maintained, most everything felt new.

The timings for the front desk were very limited, so if it was outside of their standard check-in / check-out window it wasn't really possible to drop off / pick up luggage outside of these hours. The thin walls meant you could hear everything and needed to be extremely conscious of keeping quiet both in your room and in the hallway areas for the guest rooms.

Very close to railway/bus station. Our first Ryokan experience and very happy with it as they had thought through what guests needed and had provided everything needed for a warm, safe, clean stay. Especially liked the ability to get hot water for tea/coffee even on the top floor. Also found a great restaurant just across the alleyway.

A breakfast offering would have been good as we used it as a base for walking part of the Nakasendo Way and there wasn't really anything available there either. We did find an old fashioned coffee place at the station which gave us what we needed. Was a pretty quiet place in the evenings and a bit hard to work out dinner possibilities as not pitched to the tourists which is of course very good on one hand but requires perseverance on the other. That said we were only there 2 nights and had 2 very good dinners.

We got upgraded to a very big room which was comfortable and clean. The Ryokan is conveniently located for the station, buses to the mountains, shops, restaurants etc. We were able to drop off and store our luggage overnight the day before our check in which was much appreciated as we went to walk the nakasendo trail. Ground floor bar / communal space was very nice and welcoming and the shared bathroom facilities were clean and well managed. The booking came with a free drink token which was a nice touch for settling us in and there is loads of information on places to eat, available in the foyer. We didn’t need to have much interaction with the staff during our stay but they were friendly and helpful when we checked in and in advance via messaging on this site.
