The rooms were great and very comfortable, we had no issues. The meal sets were delicious. We appreciated that they did their best to accommodate our allergies, which we let them know about ahead of time. The onsen facilities were old but clean and comfortable. We also appreciated the shuttle they provided to the train station once we checked out.

The shared bathrooms aren't ideal but it really wasn't an issue for our 1 night stay. The onsen smells like chlorine, but it's unclear if that's in the water or something used to clean the onsen.

the staff was super kind and helpful with me i had some calls to do in Japan. they drove me from and to the station. dinner was good and abundant. location is perfect for your hike along Atera valley just 10 minutes walk to the starting point. Rooms are large quiet and essential as they should be. There's no bathroom in the room but there's a comfortable bath available for free until 9 pm. The hotel closes the door at 10pm but being where you are there's nothing to do at night in the area. Just do your hikes in the day get exhausted come back dine in take a bath and go to bed early wake up at 6:30 and start the day again. regenerating

maybe just the room keys. traditional style long ones and no auto locking doors so you have to lock it yourself. don't forget

Our big 10-tatami room also had an extra space with two armchairs — welcome after a few days sitting on the floor in other ryokans. Onsen large and a good temperature, not as hot as some others. Dinner and breakfast good and plentiful although not quite the quality of some others. The room also had a basin which was handy. A 15-minute walk to the start of the stunning Atera Valley. Great cheap lunch at the (not related) restaurant next door.

We tried to get a taxi to the station as it was raining when we had to leave but that’s not possible on the weekend.

i really like the staff, the meals and the neighbourhood. The hotel is a 80 style structure with everything you need for a couple of days in relax in the nature. it is a truly Ryokan experience for a foreigner, because it's definitely what you saw in mangas/anime (large onsen, large meals rooms, campsite near there...). Price was ok for your rooms, and room is large and cozy.

It should take some refreshing, to be honest, but nothing to complain about, and the A/C should work also in the aisles of second floor. Please note that is quite far from the train station.

Large and comfortable traditional-style rooms. Nice bath. Incredible food, one of our favourite dinners of the trip. Picturesque location surrounded by nature and with the Atera Valley nearby. Helpful free pickup service from the station, it would be a long walk otherwise.

The common areas e.g. corridors, toilets are a bit worn and could do with refurbishment (that said, they were clean). Meals were a set menu, and the location is far from any other shops or restaurants, so check in advance if you have dietary requirements.

excellent customer services and front desk people are friendly and professional. the onset (hot spring) was comfortable and hotel surrounding was stunningly beautiful. a bit remote but very peaceful and relaxing.

a bit far from the station but we did not mind the 30 minute walk. The front desk offered free driving service (no bus on weekends) and went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed and comfortable. will recommend to friends.

The food experience was fantastic. However, there was so much it was difficult to eat it all. The tatami rooms are simple, which makes them a relaxing space to be in. The location is peaceful, and the views are magnificent. We were lucky enough to have clear days where we could see the mountain tops then covered in snow on the morning we left. The transfer from and to the station was helpful, but it is only a 30-minute senic walk. .

There is no alternative to using the onsen for cleansing, which might not suit every traveller.

Everything. It’s worn out and you can see and feel the age, but at the same time it has its vibe. It’s like time travel, but as in most places in Japan people just do their best to make you feel good and welcome. The onsen is good and clean. The location next to Atera valley is perfect, especially in the middle of summer.

All was good.

Breakfast was fantastic! Also we organised forwarding of our luggage to our next accommodation- it arrived the next day (which worked very well for us). This was a very easy and straightforward process!

The air conditioning in our room was not very strong. Because it was in summer, this made the room slightly uncomfortable to be in. Also, we had organised for pick up from the station, but the hotel forgot. We had to call to followup

The staff is super friendly and helpful even though they don't speak English, we communicate with Google translation. Luckily the hotel provides van transport to and from the train station as it's a 30 Min walk. Kaiseki food is good. The best of all is the Atera Valley close by - beautiful unspoilt scenery. Onsen is good.

The only shower facilities is at the onsen, which is OK.
