Authentic and Unforgettable Japanese Experience We stayed at this hotel as part of our journey through Japan and were treated to an experience we’ll never forget. The atmosphere is genuinely Japanese – from the traditional design to the smallest details in the room. The staff was warm, attentive, and truly dedicated, always ready to help with a smile and genuine care. The hotel facilities are exceptional – including a relaxing onsen, a cozy lounge, and carefully prepared meals featuring high-quality local ingredients. The view from the hotel is breathtaking, whether it’s a sunset over the mountains or a peaceful sunrise above a quiet lake. Highly recommended for anyone seeking tranquility, a break from the everyday, and a deep connection to Japanese culture.

The room is not very well shaded, so be prepared to wake up with the sunrise.

We loved our stay at Hotel Fuki No Mori. I booked it after having been there 6 years ago. The hotel is fairly simple in style and comfort, but, it's the outdoor onsen that pushes this hotel up to a 10 for me. We hiked from Magome to Tsumago that day and got picked up by the hotel shuttle bus. A couple of onsen visits looking up at the evening sky fit the bill after the long walk. Dinner and breakfast were good.

We had a lot of trouble with our room at first. I had booked 6 months in advance and asked for, and booked, a mountain view. What we got was a room that looked out on to three electrical poles with sheds below to the left - the mountains were there but in the background. It took a lot of work, but we finally got moved to a better room with the view that I had expected.

It's a stellar place to rest after doing the Nakasendo Trail. The staff are beyond helpful and every part of the hotel experience speaks to peace and relaxation. You should try all the baths as they are all interesting in their own way. Word to the wise, maybe don't book the private mountain baths when the temperature is at 2 degrees and it's 10pm. You will freeze your butt off on the way up, not to mention walking there on wooden slippers feels like its own physical test. The kaiseki experience for dinner showcases the best of the local vegetation and it was fun to have craft alcohol as well. We only wish we could order more of what we wanted ala carte. I'd tell someone, even if you aren't doing the nakasendo trail, it will be fun to make your way to this hotel.

Beautiful location set in mountains, comfy rooms, taxi transfers to and from hotel to nearby towns included, large breakfast and lunch private dining included, great onsen. Very relaxing vibe and great value.

We had a very good stay at Hotel Fukinomori, much better than expected. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They were very responsive to my messages on Booking.com and provided very clear instructions on how to take the shuttle bus. When we were late for the appointed time for the shuttle pick up, they readily accede to our request to change our time. My family had a good time in the onsen which had an indoor and outdoor section. The kaiseki dinner was sumptuous. We could watch the sunset from the lounge which provided free flow of tea and coffee

A beautiful hideaway in the mountains and a wonderful experience of Japanese culture. Staff were exceptionally helpful. We were served our room in a private dining room and the meals were delicious, served with a real eye for detail. There is a choice of public onsen or private onsen ( which needs a reservation). We could have stayed a lot longer to explore this beautiful spot in the mountains.

Our room was supposed to come with a view of the mountains but it was a partial view, mostly of the roof of the hotel. In the morning someone lit the fire below our room and the room filled with smoke which was unpleasant.

This hotel was an awesome experience. It is located in the mountains above Tsumago and a perfect place to stay on the Nakasendo Walk. The rooms were very authentic and luxurious Japanese rooms and the Kaiseki dinner was amazing - at least 10 courses and just delicious. There were six of us and we had our own dining room and it looked like most of the dining experiences were set in private areas. The onsen was great with indoor and outdoor pools and I enjoyed the cold plunge pool. The shuttle pick-up and drop off were very good. It was a very special experience.

We had a wonderful stay at Fukinomori while walking the Nakasendo Trail. They provide a free shuttle to and from Tsumago and Nagiso towns along the Nakasendo. Hotel staff were attentive to all our needs and provided excellent service including serving our Japanese style dinner/breakfast and setting up Japanese style beds while we were eating dinner. Rooms are large and very clean. Onsen was relaxing and appeared well maintained. Overall, we highly recommend this hotel without reservation!

Tastefully decorated, pleasant dining experience with partitions between dining each party, balcony with a Mountain view, beautiful kimono set in the room for guest to wear throughout. The only issue is it is 20 min away from Tsumago town or Najiso town, in the middle of mountains, so don’t expect shops or restaurants nearby! But the air is fresh, the site is quiet and nice, and the hotel has a free shuttle bus for pickup and drop at fixed hours. It was fine for us.

Sublime view of the mountains covered in forests. I wish I would have had time to explore the srea. The lounge area was very inviting. I particularly enjoyed the outdoor Onsen. I went several times. The room was very spacious and equipped with everything I wished for during the stay. They made my bed during the great dinner experience, what seems to be custom but for me it was a lovely surprise. So much food and so delicious. The waiters were very kind. Shuttle service was on time and communication with the hotel beforehand proactive friendly and helpful
