This was the best hotel experience of our 18 day trip to Japan. It’s located steps from the train station and has lots of good options for food nearby. Immediately we were greeted by a very friendly staff. You can see the hotel has put a lot of thought into the small details and it really makes a difference. The bed was comfortable, the shower and bathroom were lovely, the breakfast was amazing (including fresh squeezed orange juice and croissants and yogurt). I wish I could have stayed in the hotel with each place I travelled to in Japan and would go back to Fukuyama just to stay here.
The bathroom door was a sliding door but there is quite the gap between meaning there’s less privacy.

The hotel is 5 minutes walk from the train station and 5 minutes walk from the castle. I could even see a piece of the castle between the houses from the balcony of the room. The staff is super polite, sincere and friendly and speaks excellent English. I was glad to have the opportunity to practice Japanese and I am grateful that they all used simple Japanese. I was given a complimentary coffee upon check-in. In the evening, it was interesting to try shōchū for the first time in the hotel's bar. The design of the room is incredible, very modern and cozy! The walls in the room are thin, so you can hear other guests talking, but no one was noisy, so I slept well. The lavender soap also helped. For breakfast, I chose a hot dog and tea. It was delicious and filling. You can buy some denim staff at the hotel. Only after the tour of the castle did I learn that it is locally produced, and I regret not buying anything. Well, next time! I really liked Fukuyama Castle, Sanzo Inari Shrine, art and history museums. I didn't have time to visit the Holocaust Education Center and Fukuyama Auto & Clock Museum, and my visit in Kusado Inari Shrine was very short, so I would like to travel to Fukuyama again. And next time I will definitely stay at this hotel again. Fukuyama and kind people of Fukuyama will stay in my heart.
Everything was perfect.

It feels more like a boutique hotel than a cheap hotel. The rooms are really tastefully decorated with local furniture and furnishings which give it more character than a regular hotel. The beds are cool and comfortable. The staff are friendly and seem to take pride in their hotel. We got complimentary soba for new year and a drink too which was a nice touch. Nothing in the room feels cheap and even the hotel info is in a wood and leather binder rather than the usual nasty laminated design. The bar is good for relaxing even if alone. I expect to be back on business and will choose this hotel again.
Things for travelers to note rather than things I disliked: 1) it’s a converted one room apartment building so you have to go outside to get to your room. It means the walls are thick tho between rooms! 2) There’s a shower not a bath 3) We can use the public bath in the next door hotel. It’s nice but small (not great if a few kids are there with their mothers) and doesn’t share the design aesthetic. Why is there a TV in the bathing area?! That’s hardly relaxing! :( 4) Breakfast is included but it’s a hot dog or sometimes continental. You get one drink so if you want another coffee you have to pay an extra ¥500, which seems steep!

The design of the hotel space was thoughtfully crafted, creating a welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere throughout our stay. The kimono-style jackets provided were a stylish touch, made even more special by their use of locally sourced materials. The room offered ample space for two, ensuring comfort and ease of movement. Additionally, the hotel provided a generous supply of daily necessities, which made our stay both convenient and hassle-free.
Made me don’t wanna leave haha

It is near the station, the perfect central spot to go to Hiroshima, Osaka, Kobe, etc. It is a 5-minute walk to the extremely beautiful Fukuyama castle. The castle is very quiet not comparable to Osaka and more authentic like the Osaka castle. Inside the castle, it is worth it. It is very interactive. You can horse-ride and shoot at targets. Pictures are not allowed inside, but there are several occasions when you can take pictures in the castle. It is a quiet town with nice temples.
It is an apartment; the breakfast is only croissants or a hotdog. But the price quality is excellent, so we did not expect a breakfast. In the station, 5 min walk, you can eat plenty for little money

I stopped off for one night at the Anchor Hotel on the way to Onomichi. The hotel is a charming place to stay at with wonderful welcoming, friendly staff and lovely small but, equally significant touches, such as a free welcome drink and small pouch of coffee. The room itself contained a small fridge and two welcome bottles of chilled water and was laid out in typical Japanese style, with a very comfortable bed. My, one, big regret was that I only booked for one night! I will for sure, return to this delightful hotel, which felt like a home from home amongst friends. If you ever visit Fukuyama, there is only one hotel to stay at, the Anchor hotel!
Nothing, for me it was perfect! :-)

Everything at this hotel is elegant and of a good taste. The room is spacious and very comfortable. The washlet is larger than most other hotels that we stayed in Japan. There is no ofuro bath tub, but there is a plastic stool in the shower so that you can shower while sitting down comfortably. The breakfast is not big, but delicious, especially the hot dog/ sausage bread! The location is excellent, near train station and bus stations as well as the beautiful castle. The staff is so friendly and most of the staff members have a nice smile, and they make guests feel warmly welcome. I would want to stay at this hotel again in the future.
Perhaps it would be better for the hotel to provide an ofuro bath tub because that is what most Japanese guests would want to get while staying at hotels. Also, it would be even better if the hotel offers a bigger breakfast. Lastly, the water temperature of the wash basin and shower is a bit hard to adjust as needed. Sometimes when it becomes too hot and you want to adjust it a bit less hot, it would become very cold for a while and you have to wait for a minute or two before it turns hot again. Other than these, this is a wonderful hotel!

We loved our stay at The Anchor Hotel Fukuyama - we planned to stay one night, and ended up staying 4 nights! Location is a super easy and close walk to the train station, so a perfect base location for day and half day trips - from here we did day trips to Tomonoura, Kurashiki, Hemeji, Onomichi and the Shimano Kaido bike trail. The room was very clean and had everything we needed - plus the added bonus for us was that our room was light and airy - queen bed and pillows were super comfy. A simple breakfast was included - we chose a lovely fresh egg and salad roll and a drink - all we needed to start the day! All the staff were very friendly and helpful - thank you to you all for a fantastic stay!

Hotel in an excellent location - 5 minutes walk from Fukuyama station and the castle. There is a family mart store 1 minute from the hotel. Check-in takes place at the nearby hotel, which is located about 2 buildings before the hotel, from where you can take additional towels, toothbrushes, and razors. The room is relatively large and quiet with a very comfortable bed, TV, small fridge, toilet and shower and a small balcony. On the first floor there is a small cafe where breakfast is served - an excellent breakfast with the option of a hot dog or a delicious vegan sandwich! There are also cold and hot drinks. The Wi-Fi in the room is excellent. Highly recommend the hotel!

Nice hotel with friendly staff. Rooms are big and clean. Heating works really well and the shower is great. Very close to Fukuyama station, some decent shops and restaurants. Great place if you're using it as a base for day trips. Breakfast choice is limited but changes daily.
Only downside is having to go to the hotel 3 doors down to do laundry or for the baths, but it's seriously a minor inconvenience.
