The photos don’t do enough justice for the place! The toilets do indeed look a bit dated but it was clean. Rooms were large for Japanese hotels especially the toilet. There’s also free Netflix & Apple TV in the room. Breakfast was so yummy and such a spread! Served rice with grilled flounder and sides. Even had yogurt, chawanmushi, rice tea and fruits which were super sweet. Place was run by an elderly couple who tried their best to communicate with us in English & recommended dinner places to visit nearby. Service was absolutely great and we felt so welcomed! Also gave us a lovely receipt with a photo of us at the property which is a nice souvenir! And they were so so sweet to help us sweep the snow off our car! ❤️

Bathtub does look a bit old but was clean!

We had our wedding at Stone Church, and since all the hotels near the church were fully booked, we chose to stay at the nearby B&B Hyochoan. Our entire stay was filled with warmth and love. We arrived late at around 9 p.m. because we took the wrong Shinkansen, but the hosts were waiting for us and even came out to greet us and help with our luggage from the taxi. Inside, hot tea was waiting for us, and they kindly explained the room’s features. In the morning, we were treated to a delicious and thoughtfully prepared Japanese breakfast. When we were about to leave, we mentioned we were there for our wedding, and the elderly hosts surprised us with a gift of a bottle of wine! Their invoice was also thoughtfully printed, including a photo of us taken during our stay and some local sightseeing recommendations. The house was very clean, with a spacious backyard full of greenery, which was an unexpected delight! For the area, the price was the most reasonable and fair. Highly recommended!

Very friendly hosts, Akayko san went above and beyond to help us with dinner and sight seeing options around Karuizawa, include Saku city for some shopping options. Surroundings are peaceful, comfortable, warm and very clean. Thoughtful with little snacks and tea placed in the room daily too. Breakfast was definitely the highlight, very thoughtfully planned and made by Akayo san each morning, there were probably about 10 different items in the meal, she even accommodated a vegetarian in our family too. Thank you Ayala san and family for your kind hospitality!

Bathroom in one of the rooms was cosy, the other one was spacious, so just something to be aware of.

The host was very nice, they gave us welcoming drink. We really enjoyed our stay, the room was very quiet, nice, clean and tidy. Couldnt be happier, they even gave us a receipt of our stay in a postcard format. The breakfast was sooo good, the lounge was in such a nice atmosphere, it was snowing outside, they offered tea, coffee, some starters then steamed eggs with cod fish and rice. Then wrapped up with yogurt and fruit platter.

Beautiful location surrounded by nature. The B&B provides very comfortable rooms with western style beds, a cute garden balcony and a functional bathroom. The property was very clean and the location was convenient with lots of possibilities: hiking, onsen, close to convenience stores and restaurants. But most importantly, the owners we’re super genuine and kind. They do speak some English which we really appreciated. We would have loved to stay longer! 10/10 would highly recommend!

Everything was perfect!

Extremely accommodating and friendly owners who went out of thier way several times during our stay. Firstly, we didn't have a booking to visit the Christmas candle light up at the Karuizawa Kogen Church but they offered to give us a lift anyways to try and visit which we did and somehow managed to get in. Secondly, they insisted on fetching us after dinner which was really kind of them. Lastly, we had a two year old travelling with us and they allowed him to play with a bowling pin set in the dining area. Lastly breakfast was a huge spread and you could see the huge effort they put in the dishes and presentation.

The owners are very hospitable . The owner gave us a ride back to the train station and made a couple sightseeing stops and even took pictures for us. The breakfast was exceptional homemade Japanese food using top quality ingredient. We were even served a gold award sake which was excellent. The bed was super comfy. The property is within walking distance to nearby restaurants and onsen.

Our hosts were a lovely couple who took the time to make us feel extremely welcome. The care and attention to detail were beyond anything we have experienced previously. The Japanese breakfast was exquisitely presented. The building was beautiful, and the surround gardens were tranquil with lots of bird sounds. We will definitely choose to stay here again.

I could not pick a fault with our stay. I highly recommend this accommodation to anyone who wishes to have a peaceful and well catered stay with genuine Japanese hospitality.

Everything is amazing! The hosts are super nice and friendly! One of the host pick us up from the station directly and willing to come pick us up after dinner! The location is great! The room is super clean and cozy! Not to mention the breakfast is super delicious too! Would definitely come back again if we r travelling to karuizawa again! Highly recommend!! We had a happy stay at here :)

I normally don’t post reviews but my host Tatsuno-san and his wife were exceptional with their hospitality. When I skipped breakfast to commence a very early morning hike, out of concern, they drove me to pick up some packed food from 7-11, and then drove me to my start point a distance away. And then there was that surprise gift when I checked out. Highly recommended especially if you want a place with nice walks around.

It is far from the train station, but, there again, Tatsuno-san picked me up at 8 pm and sent me back the next morning.
