The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Although the hotel was old, it was kept clean and pleasant. While it may not satisfy the seasoned traveller, it would be a great experience for those who want to a traditional Ryokan experience. The forest area around the hotel is really pleasant for a morning stroll - highly recommended.

It's a little pricey especially for the small room size and the fact that it's a public bath and not an onsen. Dinner was good for a first timer, but nothing mind blowing.

We stayed only for one night, but wished it was a longer stay. The room was well equipped, comfortable and very clean. There’s a very nice onsen and also a small beautiful garden. Also very peaceful, the hotel is located very close to the main street with lots of shops and restaurants.

I wish we knew in advance we need to make an early reservation for dinner and breakfast. For us it wasn’t clear so unfortunately we were too late and it was fully booked.

Wonderfully welcoming staff and the owner gave us great advice about the hike from Karuizawa to Yokokawa over the Usui Pass (we’d intended to do it the other way round). The rooms are quiet and comfortable and their onsen is amazing! It’s in a great location at the top of the old town strip and very close to the Nakasendo trail. Tip: book well ahead for dinner there. We didn’t and missed out!

Great dinner and breakfast, and extremely fairly priced! Kind, attentive staff, and nice little onsen to relax at the end of the day. The futons were also very very comfortable

The room was a little tiny, the whole hotel is very retro, and personally, while the nature around Karuizawa is very beautiful, I didn’t enjoy the city (very americanized).

Great ryokan stay that offers great service, nice traditional Japanese food and a public bath. They were very accomodating for our 4mth old baby and even gave us a baby swinging chair at dinner!

Easy to find. Easy to walk around the areas for tourist spots. Hot bath was relaxing. Hotel is old traditional Japanese style but very clean! Staff is super friendly and kind. Also speaks fluent English.

the dinner was superb; all the staffs were very helpful eventhough not all of them can speak English breakfast was excellent room was very clean, eventhough I am not used to sleep on a futon bed the soba tea and the snack in the room were very nice the onsen was nice

you might consider an open air onsen

A traditional Ryokan with nice Japanese decors&ambience , easy walking to shops & restaurants in Ginza-Karuizawa. The rooms(3) are clean & cozy. Very helpful and kind staffers .

Public Baths are small , indoor only ; should have clearly stated whether these are natural or artificial onsens? Dinner sets were nice but not extraordinary … BF were well presented.

Beautiful (although a bit dated decor) property at the far end of town in Old Karuizawa. Lovely to walk around that part of town. A good location for my group as we were able to start our walk of the Nakasendo Way from the front door.

The hotel does not have a shuttle, so plan to take a taxi from the train station for about ¥1300.

A traditional Japanese onsen hotel. The interior was elegant and comfortable. The onsen is small but relaxing.

Unfortunately the restaurant was fully booked so we did not had the chance to eat the course meal at the hotel.
