We were blown away by our stay at Tama Hotel. Everything was incredible. The owner, Mino was an amazing host and we felt like family rather than hotel guests. Mino bought as breakfast before our trip to cat island and cooked us an amazing, traditional dinner each night - which he refused to let us pay him for. During our stay Mino gave us multiple gifts & he even organised for us to join him for an interview on the local radio station. The hotel is connected to a cat hotel which is free entry during the stay and the cats were very cute. He also offers free wine, and to our surprise, free whiskey in the family room. We were honestly sad to be leaving Mino and Tama Hotel and we hope one day we'll be able to stay again. We have been travelling for 5 months (and so far one month in Japan) for our Honeymoon - Tama hotel as been our accommodation highlight, it is like nothing else and staying there is an experience in itself.

We like cats. But even if we didn't we would still have loved this hotel! I will never forget our stay at Tama Hotel, and hope to return again soon. The owner is passionate about cats, Elvis, and motorcycling - and he runs two great hotels. We stayed in the Tama Hotel section, rather than the M&K Hotel across the street. The room was decently sized, well appointed, and very comfortable. Ishinomaki is a great destination for Manga lovers too - and the M&K Hotel across the street, which you also have access too, has an extensive manga collection. Of course, we visited Ishinomaki to visit Tashirojima Cat Island, which was a beautiful and magical place - don't rush it, you will be stopping lots to pet and photograph the many cute cats. The owner shuttled us to the ferry, stopping along the way to buy us some tasty fresh bread (we went back the next day), seeing that we bought our ferry ticket without trouble (take cash), and even waving us off at the dock. You can really tell that the owner wants to make your experience one you will never forget. The cats in the salon next door are oh so cute and generally very friendly. It was so nice to just go and play with the cats, being so far away from our own cat at home. There are so many free amenities and services offered here, that I cannot list them all. The owner has much better English than my Japanese, and was a joy to meet and chat to (with the aid of Google translate). He even cooked us some food, and we shared some wine (he seems to like red wine!) You must stay here! - and then tell all your friends to stay here too! FYI - Appears as OYO 558 Tama Hotel on Google Maps

What is there to say other than AMAZING!? This hotel is so nice. First, the owner is incredibly nice and welcoming. Upon arrival he provides a tour of the hotel, and introduces you to the 12 cats they have and also explains that they look after another 6 street cats, one of which we were allowed to hold in our arms and cuddle! We got to choose between a normal or big room and chose the big, and it was so nice! HUGE! And super comfortable. Definitely come here if you have the chance. The owner is super nice, and when we asked for recommendations for a place to have dinner he suggested an Izakaya and even called them to ask if we could go. He even offered to drive us there, but it's a 10 minute walk only. It was one of the best nights we've had in Japan. One of the highlights of our trip.
Nothing. It's amazing!

We stayed a night in Ishinomaki in order to tour Cat Island on the following morning. We arrived by train at around 4 pm and it was a pretty easy walk to the hotel. The family room on the first floor was huge - the kids especially loved the massage chair! The manager is a wonderful host and he gave us a tour of the facilities and all the information about the cat island ferry the following morning, including the weather conditions. He also helped our cat-crazy kids hold and feed some of the hotel's feline residents. The hotel has a cat room for those who want to play with cats and/or join for cat dinner time. Best of all, our host drove us to the ferry, helped us pick up some delicious pastries on the way, and then picked us up (with our luggage!) after the ferry to take us directly to the train for our next stop - an AMAZING service. Without their help I don't think we would have caught our train! I absolutely recommend Tama Hotel for anyone who loves cats and/or wants to explore Cat Island and Ishinomaki.

The owner of the hotel, Mino, was off the charts helpful and warm. He picked us up and dropped us off from the train station and the ferry so there was no stress finding our way around a new city. He dropped us off and picked us up from a really fun, out of the way local restaurant/bar. My sons used the bikes provided to explore the city. He gave us cat buttons, chocolates and pastries. The rooms were comfortable but honestly Mino was the highlight of our stay at Tama. He’s all about the cats and clearly has a thing for Elvis lol He’s quite a character and seemed to really enjoy helping us make the most of our stay. And omg if you love cats you have to go to the cat island. It was a highlight of our Japan trip.

Exceptional and very generous service by the charismatic owner (transfers by car to restaurant and station, introduction to the cats, free lunch from bakery etc). Excellent value for money. We missed out on the cat island because due to the weather the ferries weren’t operating, but the hotel had a space with lots of happy and healthy cats, which we were able to play with and feed. A unique experience overall and especially for cat lovers. Thank you very much!
We had two single rooms. In my bathroom there was a very stuffy smell, like old cigarette smell which spread to the room. My nephew’s room was nice and fresh. If you are a coffee drinker, note, that breakfast room does not offer coffee but there is a kettle in the room, just bring your own coffee 😊. Family mart is about 10 mins walk away.

If you're staying on Tashirojima, staying at the Tama Hotel is a must. Going in reading the other reviews of Tama Hotel it seemed that the owner was hospitable; this is true, but understates things. He has a precise tour set up for your stay -- check in, meet the cats, tour the hotel, pick your favorite cat and get a pin, learn how to hold a cat. Wake up for breakfast (I regret to say that I didn't opt for it -- the only thing open early in the area is a Starbucks), get a ride to the ferry (with a stop along the bakery along the way that he paid for!), get picked up and driven back to the hotel. The price was extremely affordable, and was an amazing deal for the level of hospitality and cats provided! The hotel itself was comfortable -- the cats are confined to their own room and I stayed across the street in another building from them anyways so I think even if you're allergic it wouldn't be an issue. He also provided complementary wine and manga, as well as a massage chair. The room was spacious and standard amenities like toothbrushes were provided in the room. My only regret is that I showed up too late to feed the cats, and that I only stayed one night -- I feel like with the amount of heart and passion that the owner put it it deserved more time. I hope to make it back someday and meet my favorite cat (Noir-chan) again!
My only nitpick would be that the bed was very firm by Western standards -- that seems to be the norm for hotels in Japan, though, and I don't think I would have noticed if I had stayed here later in my trip after staying at other places in Japan.

Everything about this location is great. The owner is very personable, the resident cats are very cute (even て—る), and the room and bed is way more spacious than I expected after a week in Tokyo. Within walking distance to family mart, within walking distance of Rikuzen-Yamashita station, and is a couple minute drive to the Tashiro Island ferry (Chuou port). The hotel owner drove us in his cat van, showed us how to go through the ferry sign-in, and even scheduled a pickup on the return ferry, dropping us off just before the train left Ishinomaki. I don't know if this was intended or just happened to line up, but it was magical. If you're going to Tashiro Island, stay at Tama Hotel. I've seen a lot of tourists absolutely wreck tourist locations; Tama Hotel is not the place to do that. It's an absolute treasure that should be respected and appreciated.

We loved everything about our stay at Tama Hotel. We came there in order to visit Tashirojima, Cat island. The hotel itself has a cat patio with many very cute and well-taken care of cats. Tama, Millefeuille, Maron, Noritama, Ansu, Cinnamon, Caramel, Suri, Noir, Tail, Kiwi, Marble, 2nd, Konosuke. Paradise for serious cat lovers and cat freaks. The place has cat themed decorations everywhere which we loved. The owners are incredibly kind and made everything to make our stay the best possible. We used translator apps for communication and it worked great. They gave us a lot of good advice for food and for the visits we could do in the Miyagi area. They kindly drove us to the ferry, helped us with the tickets and picked us up, drove us back to the train station when we left. Plus they cooked absolutely delicious breakfast and dinner for us. We felt very well taken care of. Unforgettable hospitality experience we can only highly recommend. Thank you Tama Hotel!
