Very spacious and clean rooms, really good quality and friendly personnel. They all speak english if necessary.

Breakfast is not as shown in pictures on booking, probably it recently changed. It doesn’t have the quality standard of the rest of the hotel. Instead of buffet you have to go on the café next door but can only get one drink and one toast.

The reservation we made included breakfasts which were served at a little coffee shop next door. In the morning this coffee shop also attracts passersby who are not hotel guests. The staff are very polite and helpful. We asked the front desk to make a taxi reservation to take us to Kyoto Station after we check-out in the morning. Both taxi driver and front desk staff on duty were waiting for us when we made it to the front desk actually five minutes before the pickup appointment. The driver was in black suit and had white gloves (the gentleman is from MK Taxi). He was very professional and handled our suitcases for us very efficiently. I enjoyed my stay at the hotel and will be glad to recommend others to spend time at the hotel.

We stayed here for 9 nights and it was a great base for exploring Kyoto. Could walk to many places and easy access to subway, railway and buses. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a mini kitchen and washing machine in our room which made things easier. Many convenience stores and restaurants in easy walking distance. Coffee shop right next door. It was very hot during our stay but room air con was efficient and very quiet - great to come back to after the humidity outside. Would stay here again.

Gozan is a unique, comfortable, welcoming property in the best location, transportation everywhere, short walk to Gion, tons of restaurants, the market, scenic river & river walk. The property is spotless. The beds are comfortable. We chose the best place to stay while on our extended trip to Kyoto. The lobby included free water, coffee, tea. We felt at home at Gozan. All front desk employees are very good and accommodating. However, we must give special recognition to ‘Axe’ at the front desk. Axe was exceptional in his professionalism, friendliness, and excellent proficiency with the English language. He was knowledgeable and always helpful. Axe was enjoyable to interact with and an absolute pleasure to see at the front desk. He is an asset to Gozan, definitely, and we thank him for making our stay even more enjoyable. Because I read negative reviews…Regarding the breakfast in the next door cafe, we used the coupons but paid a little extra for a latte or cappuccino, as the regular included coffee was not the best. Our room had a kitchenette with a good size refrigerator and microwave - so fruit, nuts, seaweed we stock up on anyway when traveling. Gozan was the perfect base for us to comfortably experience Kyoto and beyond. We took buses easily for trips to temples, Miyajima off Hiroshima, Miyama, Uji, Amanohashidate, Ine Bay, biking through Asuka Village (lovely) etc etc. We would stay at Gozan again. As a family of four we stayed in connecting rooms with kitchenettes. Clean and well-appointed rooms. In-room, easy-to-use washer/dryer was great! Great location for exploring Eastern Kyoto, and also close to Sanjo Stn with great train, bus, subway connections to reach other parts of the city and surrounding area. Friendly, helpful staff.

Set breakfast consisted of three varieties of grilled cheese sandwiches. They were good, but would have appreciated a little more variety (something other than grilled cheese) as we stayed for several days. Would also have been nice to have a few pots & pans for cooking.

Location was fantastic. Right out of the hotel, walking in any direction leads you somewhere fun. We were first time travellers to Japan, and we used this method to find places to eat and/or shop. The bed appears thin and small, but was surprisingly comfortable to sleep on. Many transport options (bus stops, subway, railway) were close by. Free washing machines and dryers for your usage during your stay. FOC beverages at the lobby include a coffee machine, tea bags, cold and hot water.

The room was small, so pathways were narrow. If you’re of bigger size or stature, might want to reconsider. Little to not much to be done at the hotel. It really is a place to rest and not much more.

Great location - modern room (albeit small). Walking distance to Gion, subway and JR stations (which is great if you’re interested in daytrips, quick walk across the River to the hustle and bustle - could even walk to Takashimaya food court to stock up for breakfasts. A bit tight to cook meals but doable. Staff were amazing - complimentary coffee, a few toiletries and bottled water (which was a lifesaver in the unseasonably warm weather). The best shower we had in Japan so far. Easy walk to the meeting point for our food and sake tour as well as to Nashiki market. Don’t be fooled though, wear your most comfortable walking shoes - you’ll be doing a lot of it.

The location of the Gozan Hotel is in a great location between downtown Kyoto and the Gion district. It is within walking distance of both. There are also subway stations close by. The staff speak good English and are very helpful and friendly. It is great value for money, our room was a good size with a mini kitchen and free use of washing machines. Chion - In temple is a beautiful temple and if you go on dark it has a special light show on. Download Japan Rail Navitime App. It makes negotiating the trains in Japan easier. Klook is also great for booking activities and the Shinkansen train.

Nothing to dislike.

This hotel was fantastic. It had great design, the double room was very spacious for me, and I’m a large person. I was worried it would be cramped, but it ended up being perfect. Not having a tub was OK, because of the spa facilities, which were amazing. I loved almost everything about this hotel.

The only things that could use some improvement, is that the TV was very hard to figure out because it was almost exclusively in Japanese (by which I mean the remote buttons, the TV menus, the settings), so I basically didn’t use it. Also, the staff was incredibly nice and friendly, but I found their English abilities were a little less than average from what I encountered elsewhere in Japan. But, we made it work with Google translator.

Modern. Clean. Friendly. Good amenities. The hotel itself is beautiful and the rooms are really nice and well equipped. Front desk is very nice. Location is good.

It’s on a bigger road and there’s no real sound insulation. Heard baby screaming in a neighboring room and had to wear ear plugs because the cars from the road were pretty loud even from the 5th floor. I don’t know how soundproofing was overlooked when designing this hotel especially since it’s on a main road. If this wasn’t an issue the hotel would be perfect.
