The location was amazing, you can try the public onsens. Car park was nearby and convenient. Very good for a traditional Japanese ryokan experience.

The Japanese staff was super friendly, but there was another foreign male staff, who was not very helpful and mostly on his laptop and looking bored, not engaging with customers or our questions. There's only one bathroom per floor either for men or female, so if you're on the wrong floor, expect to be climbing up and down some very steep steps often. The steps can be a hassle for elderly, don't recommend for them. The room was quite nice and traditional Japanese style, but noises travel through the walls easily, so you need to keep quiet especially at night. The restaurant food was pretty average to be honest, better to go eat outside.

Sweet little Ryokan right in the middle of Shibu onsen. We stayed here because we're backpackers and it was the cheapest place around but we had a really good experience. The staff were lovely and very helpful, they offer free collection from yudanaka train station at certain times and will also drop you off at the snow monkey park (bus or 25 minute walk back). You get free access to the public onsens and free rental of traditional robes/shoes/baskets for onsen hopping. Shared bathroom/showers but they were clean and functional. Also a restaurant on-site but can't comment as we didn't use it. There's more luxurious places but for the price we would definitely stay again!

The service was absolutely impeccible, the staff were more than willing to help us with any problem that we faced, and we faced several problems when we arrived at the location (Not related to said business). In addition to this, we were provided with traditional sandals, slippers, yukatas, and by paying for this Ryokan which is on the cheaper end of the spectrum, you get access to a whopping 9 different onsen! The location is also great and gives you access to the Monkey Park which is relatively close. You defenitly get more than you pay for. The toilets and showers were also very clean. Other than that the location was perfect. I really recommend this area of Nagano to anyone who would want to explore Northern Japan, especially in Winter, I feel like the area of this Ryokan blooms the most in Winter, or at least it looked stunning when we were there in the snowy period.

This was the least confident booking I made through my Japan trip, but it turned out to be the top-rated afterall! The room was spacious and warm (the owner turned on the gas heater before we arrived). The owner was so friendly, and they also have native English speaker staff which made life lot easier. The owner was super helpful, he helped us to put our luggages to the room, and accommodate us in the restaurant while we were waiting for the bus (for an hour, he turned the heater and lighting on just for us, so sweet!) The exploring to the 9 local onsen was super fun, highly recommend you do so during your stay. Get the stamp collecting towel and try to find all 9 of them! We also went to the sister Onsen hotel to enjoy our private bath (with extra cost, but very cheap), it was also very nice and they sell yummy oden in the standing bar. The whole little town has a chill vibe, I wish I could have stayed there for longer.

Only one gender toilet per level, so I have to always go downstairs to the toilet which is a bit inconvinient. However, if you are familiar with camping, you won't compalin at all, at least you will be walking indoors and the toilet seat was warm already!

Our room was large and spacious with good heating. The beds were also big and comfortable. The staff member at reception clearly explained the facilities and the public onsen etiquette. There were free amenities and the shared showers and toilets were clean and spacious. There is a restaurant on site which was handy to eat at for dinner as there aren't many options in the town. All the communal areas were clean and well maintained. Although we didn't have any toilet or shower in our room, they were in close proximity and didn't hassle us at all. This place is great value for money and we wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

We loved everything about our stay. The location was excellent and very convenient to local attractions. We had a hire car and found parking easily at the nearby parking lot. The ryokan provides a shuttle service to the nearby Monkey Park if you don't have a car. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and we loved the traditional ryokan experience. We were provided with yukata and a cane basket so we could visit each of the 9 public baths in Shibu Onsen, and collect the stamps. This is a great budget option offering good value for money.

Nothing - everything was wonderful

Beautiful place to stay at -very clean, gorgeous interrior and just overall a great location! I went with my friends and we had a really good time. There's the possibility to visit nine public onsen for free and collect stamps on a special souvenir towel (I think it was ¥500 but I'm not sure). The water of the different onsen are said to have different healing and health properties. Also there are skiing/snowboarding and hiking opportunities around as well. We ended up going to the snowmonkey park (15 minutes drive from the hotel), which was a bit crowded but totally worth the visit. The staff is also super friendly and the food and drinks they offer are also pretty good!( loved their home made ginger drinks) If possible, we'll be back!

It's an old wooden house, which has a great charm but that also means you have to be careful with noise at night. That's not meant as a complaint at all (we loved everything about our stay!), just rather something to consider if you're traveling with a bigger group and want to hang out in your rooms in the evening.

I loved my stay at Koishiya Ryokan! It is a traditional Ryokan with the modern comforts of a hostel. As a guest, you will be given a key to the nine public onsens which each provide different health benefits. They will also provide you with a yukata, geta sandals, and a basket if you want to use them for your onsen experience! I chose a private room which was super cozy. The walls are thin, so you need to be mindful of the noise you make but I didn't find it to be a problem (earplugs are also provided if needed). The cafe was yummy and very convenient to have in-house. Additionally, they were able to accommodate my late check-in with no problems at all and allowed me to leave my bags with them while I explored the area after I checked out. I felt very safe as a solo female traveler and would absolutely recommend this stay to others. Thank you for your hospitality!

The location is a traditional ryokan which provides for an excellent atmosphere to stay in while in the village. The staff were nice, helpful, and informative about the town. The street it is located on is quite busy with the onsen tours if you wish to participate or just walk around and see the community and their businesses. It’s also quite easy to get to the monkey park. The facilities were clean and well taken care of.

While I did enjoy the food and drinks that are offered at the café in the hotel, I do feel like it was quite limited. If someone may have food troubles such as gluten intolerance, I could see them being dissatisfied with what is offered.

It's a traditional japanese Ryokan, meaning the walls and internal structure of the hotel are not that good at blocking sound. The bedding is also traditional japanese style, which might be a little tough for some people. Besides that we had a great night! The other guests (in other rooms) were really respectful and we didn't have any problems with noise during the night. Staff is super friendly, helping us with any doubts we had and the shuttle to the Monkey park was a great plus as we decided to visit it after our check-out. Would definetly stay there again
