Super nice (family) hotel. The staff was very kind. We tried the Futon beds and it was not that bad, like other people told us. There are two onsen. You can use it with tattoos. Just use one of the onsen, when it's free and you can use it for 45 Minutes. This was very nice! The shampoo and body soap smells also wonderful. Towels for free, also bodylotion, toothbrush...Coffee and tea for free. It was a lovely staying.
The road by the Hotel was a bit noisy at times. The bread in the morning is not Ryokan like. You can choose 7 Breads. You have to choose them the day before. I recommend 4 pieces at least, so that you can get full. The location is good and bad. You can walk 30 minutes to the shrine or take the bus. The bus station of the Hotel is 13. The Nikko Heritage Pass is just free for the bus station 12, so I RECOMMEND THE NIKKO ALL AREA PASS to avoid bad circumstances! We saw the chuzenji lake and here I also recommend the Nikko all area pass! Don't try to save money, if you use the Heritage Pass. The busses only accept cash and cannot change money.

A beautiful lodge to stay in. The star is the onsen - there are 2 onsen rooms in a separate building outside with a maple tree on the walk out. There is a clever light system that allows you to know when the onsens are in use by other guests - plenty of time to be able to use. The onsen rooms are beautifully built and were such a delight to use - there was a private outside space for one of them as well. As the onsens are private, it is fine for people with tattoos to use. There is a large communal area where you have breakfast and can also relax and prepare other meals. Hot and cold water available as well as microwaves and toaster for preparing meals. There is a lovely children's play area as well. Breakfast is served in the morning with a choice of different pastries and drinks that you order the night before. The owner is very accommodating and friendly. Good location - 10 minutes by bus from Tobu Nikko station, 5 minutes by bus to the shrines, temples and Shinyko bridge, 5 minute walk to Daiyu river and about 30-40 minutes by bus to Lake Chuzenji. The beds were comfortable and there was good amount of space for storage in the rooms. Table, chairs and TV in each room.
The bathroom for the rooms are quite small, however we barely used ours as we used the onsen and therefore showered in the onsen rooms.

I love the vibe of this place. It’s very friendly. The owner clearly likes people and he is very helpful. Everything is well planned and explained. You can get hot and cold water, or buy some food from the freezer and cook it using available microwaves. There is selection of cold drinks you can buy as well. You can get a yukata and some travel items for free (ear plugs, razors etc). Room was clean and comfortable. Very nice coffee and fresh bread in the morning. I used private bath and it was a very nice experience. If you are traveling with child you will feel comfortable here as well. I would highly recommend this place to other travelers.
In evening hours there are only very few busses from the city center. However the majority of shops and restaurants close early so it’s not like you want to stay in city center long

This place was quite exceptional - its a small family run hotel but very comfortable and the staff so nice and friendly I was looked after and helped in a unique way by the man running it. It is also fantastic value for money. My room was comfortable and we had access to a small private onsen which I loved. Breakfast is included and it basically bakery items but very tasty plus coffee or tea. It is not in the centre but right by a bus stop so I found this preferable. Most of the other guests were younger couples and small groups from many different countries. I am 83 and was travelling alone and this place was perfect for me. Apart from the fabulous Ryokans which I stayed in during my walking tour which are wonderful but expensive this was by far the best place I stayed in during this and previous visits to Japan.
no complaints - everything was great

The young man Kono-san who manages the place was quite friendly and assisted with information, storing my bags and lending me a brolly on a very wet Nikko day. Room was a good size with the bare minimum, a small table against the wall with a lamp, TV, charging point and fridge under it. There was another table with a chair next to the bed which was handy if using a laptop or having a meal. Located just outside the side entrance are 2 private baths, wonderful on a cold wet day that were open from 4 pm (45 minute limit per use). Had a nice assortment of bakery items for breakfast, pre-ordered before 11pm the night before, which were warm and fresh.
Location was a bit far from the station (20 minute bus ride). The shower nozzle was very small, however the water pressure was good. The bath towel was thread bare which also had to be used if going to the private baths. There was no kettle in the room so if you wanted a coffee or tea you would have to leave the room, manually lock it (old style) and go downstairs to the lounge. Although the bakery items provided for breakfast were delicious there were no other options such as cereals, yoghurts, fruit or eggs.

Comfortably sized rooms, it felt spacious compared to my Tokyo hotel. Great breakfast, I was able to pick my assortment of pastries and they were brought out warmed for me in the morning. The baths were very nice and peaceful, I liked that there was a light by the rooms to check if they were occupied before you trekked down. The common area was lovely, and the whole house had great rustic charm. Wonderful stay for a solo traveller and it seems great for families too.
It’s hard to even say “disliked” bc everything felt carefully considered. There isnt great soundproofing and you can hear hall noise but earplugs are provided with the usual amenities. It’s a bit far from restaurants and the busses are infrequent but the welcome book had many recommendations, the Lawson’s isn’t too far, and there’s fridges in the rooms and microwaves in the common area.

I enjoyed my stay in this beautiful and peaceful house with a nice common area. The room was spacious and clean. Two very nice private onsen are available without reservation which is a really nice plus. Breakfast was good and included a choice of bread which can be ordered in advance. The location is somewhat out of the center of Nikko which is less convenient for dinner, but it is close to a bus stop giving you access to the center and the national park.
Location might be considered a bit less since it is out of the center, but the presence of a bus stop makes this okay.

Charming stay. Location was ideal for me. It's away from the center but right off the #13 bus stop by 2 min walk. It's close to a wonderful walk by the river that leads to more of the center of town as well. The room was spacious. I enjoyed the breakfast every morning. The lounge area was perfect - lots of seat options, and it was very comfortable. I was able to heat up meals or have my takeout there. Appreciate the free amenities and the stone onsen. Happy to be in a yukata every evening. The host was super helpful when looking for treks and checking which mountains were closed for the season.
I was shocked the toilet was not like all the other smart totos I am accustomed to in Japan. It was a classic standard Western with non-heated seat. It would have been nice since it was very cold during my 3 night stay. I also wish there were a couple more outlets in the room.

Breakfast was up to our expectaction and sufficient. Owner (and his family) were friendly and helped with any request. Nikko (historical site) and Imperial Villa were at walking distance. The private onsens were clean and nice, and since the number of guest rooms is limited, there was at least one unoccupied most of the time. We took the Japanese-style room for two nights, and really enjoyed it. Nikko aims at day-time tourists, so you hardly find a restaurant open after 6 pm. But the accomodation has a microwave, so you can buy food at the local supermarket and heat it up in the B&B. There is also a drink vending machine on the second floor.

Property offered a wonderful breakfast of a variety of breads and drinks (maximum 6 per person), it was delicious! Very close to bus stop 13 which gets you to the JR station quickly. It’s a 15 minute walk to Lawson in case you need snacks. Hospitality was awesome! We really appreciated the kindness staff had to offer. The private Onsen was awesome!! TATTOOS ARE FINE!
Everything was great. It was a little far from the station but otherwise is so worth it!
