This hotel is a bit isolated on a little island just off the coast of the Izu peninsula, but a water shuttle takes guests to the mainland, where a cab can be booked for tours. (I recommend the deep-water aquarium.) The friendly staff helps to arrange all of that. The room was superb, with views of Mt. Fuji when it wasn't covered by clouds, and there is a nice short walk around the island. Interesting art all around the hotel. Breakfast buffet was amazing (with Japanese and Western choices) and the meals in the hotel restaurant were very good, though not as memorable as the breakfast. Overall, a nice getaway from the crowded cities.

Really nothing that we didn't like.

- excellent service. I mean, way above average. They tried to be helpful in every possible way. - balcony on the seaside, with a view on Mt. Fuji and the bay. - onsen opens into the sea, and you can spend time in it contemplating the stars and the view. It just doesn't get much better than that (!) - rooms are very spacious which is not very common in Japan - bedsheets were of much higher quality than they usually are in hotels. - island, and the surroundings are very beautiful, esp. when the weather is sunny - hotel restaurant is of excellent quality. Our dinner on 1st day was something to remember. Also, this is a very interesting hotel - whoever designed it, must have styled it after hotels in the bay of Naples and such. Motives from Italian hotels in the Mediterranean are apparent both in the interior and exterior.

- Wifi was rather unusable. I used cellular internet to get by. - there was some wear and tear here and there, but we didn't care because there was so much to like, it came with it's own kind of charm.

Awashima Hotel is located on an island about 40 minute south by bus of Numazu station. Boasting huge European style suites combined with natural hot springs feeding into both the spacious bathtubs and the indoor/outdoor onsen, Awashima Hotel is a unique blend of luxury & relaxation that truly has to be experienced. Things to do include visiting the hotel's art gallery; walking around the island; visiting the Awashima Marine Park Aquarium during business hours; and of course, the onsen. The indoor onsen offers greater privacy, while the outdoor onsen offers a beautiful view of Suruga Bay, and if not too cloudy, Mt. Fuji as well. It's an incredible value for your money to visit such a one-of-a-kind place.

Due to the ambitious scale of the hotel as originally built, there are some areas of the island that have proven difficult to maintain, especially after a typhoon caused damage a few years back. The hotel itself remains wonderful as ever, but if you walk around the island you will see some areas that have been left decommissioned. Personally, I do not mind in the least and consider it part of the charm, but it is worth nothing for future guests so they are not surprised.

Excellent location with instant holiday feelings in the moment the shuttle boat is departing from the pier nearby. Onsen and apartments come with a view to Mount Fuji. The French interior makes guests travel back in time - in a positive/romantic way. Rooms and the entire building are very spacious. The staff is very professional and helpful.

Only minor points: If you carry heavy luggage, you need to lift it over a few stairs at the entrance. There is an abandoned pool which could either be revived or turned into something else (e.g. a seating area?!). As warned during the check-in, the WiFi signal is rather slow given the hotel is placed on an island without modern cable connection. Again, all these points are only minor ones. Again,

The staff was excellent. The room they gave me was a huge suite with a great view of Mt. Fuji from the bathtub, and the bed linen was the softest I've ever slept in. Breakfast and dinner (western style) was also outstanding. The complimentary shuttle bus from Mishima Station and the short ferry ride to the property was very much appreciated. The property is on a lovely little island with a nice walking path circumnavigating the island. The best part was the view of Mt. Fuji - with lots of credit to Mother Nature. I was very lucky to be here on a day with a clear view of Mt. Fuji! On a not so clear day, the location would not be as exceptional.

Due to the gale force winds, they had shut down the outdoor onsen for safety, but of course, it's not the property's fault. The building and the garden was in need of a bit of updating here and there, but it's possible that they would spruce it up for the warmer weather.

We have booked a room with the view of Mt. Fuji. I tried to manage my expectation because usually the pictures would look better than the reality. It turned out it is exactly what is shown in the app. The staff are nice and helpful. We bought half board stay, and the food quality is great. The utensils they use are high class, and we are impressed.

We don't have any complaint at all, but visitors should be aware that the hotel has a certain history, and therefore, please don't expect modern decor and style.

The hotel was very charming with a history. The hotel was very clean and although there were quite a few quests at breakfast, it seems very quiet in the corridors and lounge. Excellent location to go to for relaxing. Breakfast had a good selection of a healthy western or Japanese breakfast. The staff at check-in and breakfast were very friendly and helpful.

While the hotel was maintained very well, the surroundings showed signs of aging. This doesn't matter at all when you stay at the hotel however we explored the island (walk around the island and a hike up the mountain to see the shrine).

Beautiful hotel rooms at a uniquely special location. Excellent breakfast and friendly staff. Many included facilities including an Onsen, lounge access and complimentary access to the marine park, frog museum and boat rides.

The hotel and island (Awashima) have seen better days with many areas in need of maintenance and repairs. They’ve certainly done their best with what little they have and made sure to not skimp on the parts that matter the most for the hotel.

Absolutely unforgettable experience of travelling in time within the hotel and meeting friendly penguins and other creatures on the island! Everything was mindblowing from taking a bath with Fuji in the background to breakfast to the library to dolphins and seals! We would definitely want to return again. Please don’t turn it into a modern hotel, preserve the 90s vibe 🙏

Some animal enclosures could be better, especially the seals’s
