The town is small and easy to navigate and enjoy the sights just by walking. The staff were attentive, polite and professional but yet personable. They all were able to communicate in English which was very helpful since we speak barely any Japanese. The meals were exceptional and it was a very pleasant surprise every single time. The meals were so outstanding that by the time we were back in Tokyo, we did not need to find the special foods of Japan because we already ate them! The room is traditional and I was skeptical at first about sleeping on the tatami mat but surprisingly , the bedding was comfortable and had no problems! We were also not sure about wearing the yukata around the facility since it was new to us but we surely felt comfortable once we started to wear it. It helps cut down on packing extra clothes for meals. I highly recommend staying here and hope to be back again for another relaxing experience.

The only thing we would have liked is to have had the option of coffee served at breakfast since we are so use to coffee early in the morning. It was offered after the meal in the lobby.

Traditional style ryokan with the nicest and most hospitable hosts. Every member of staff at chousenkaku was extremely helpful and kind, going out of their way to accommodate any requests. The location is excellent, a short 10 minute walk to the station and 5 minutes to a convenience store if needed. The food was spectacular - we were delighted with our choice to stay here. The building has a rich history too, for which information can be found in the lobby and by speaking to the staff. The private onsen is reasonably priced and well appointed with amenities, water etc.

An additional blanket in the room would have been beneficial (February stay)

This was a wonderful traditional ryokan with a lot of interesting history that is on the Nakasendo. Convenient location on the way to the Kiso valley from the Mt. Fuji area. Beautiful garden view from our room. Both the dinner and breakfast were delicious with a wide variety of dishes. Would definitely stay here again!

Room with tatami beds was comfortable, service was on point, the meals prepared are delicious. Love the top-up to use the private onsen. Location is fairly central, walking distance (~<1km) to train station
