Managed to book a room including breakfast for AUD103 per night, for 2 nights. As a solo traveller, this was really worth the money as the hotel had an amazing onsen - two outdoor ones, an indoor one and a sauna. The breakfast was delicious, with them changing the menu if you stay the second day as well. It's traditional Japanese breakfast, with fish, sashimi, pickles, egg and dessert. They even heat up the clam miso soup using the portable fire at your table when you arrive. The room has air conditioning and a mini fridge.

Slightly older hotel, but no issues at all as it's very well maintained.

Hamanoyu feels like an old grand dame from another era. The staff do their best to keep up the quality and they do a good job. My room was small and cute. The sauna and hot spring facilities were well-maintained and felt comfortable and relaxing. I only got breakfast, but it was more than adequate. I feel that not enough. People are visiting that part of Nagano these days, and that tourism is suffering, which is ironic because much of the rest of Japan appears to be booming. I hope, I can do my small part to help get the word out.

It felt like it needed to be aired out a little bit in the hallways and such. It’s a massive property so I know it’s not easy to keep air flowing, especially in the depths of winter.

Staff was great, female staff went above and beyond to accommodate our friends who had different arrival times and gave a a ride to a local store. She was very attentive and the on site bar/restaurant "Iori" was great serving excellent food and cocktails

Due to heavy snow the internet was almost unusable for work, this was an issue but we managed.

Booked two single rooms for spouse and I as they were out of twin/double rooms. Surprisingly for a single room, it's extremely spacious. The bed was very comfortable. Great indoor and outdoor onsens and sauna in design, variety and size. Japanese breakfast was adequate with limited other non-japanese options. Close proximity (walking) from Kamisuwa JR station and lake suwa.

Even though the hotel is about 7 mins from Kamisuwa JR station, the hotel could have provided shuttle service to the station. Otherwise a taxi ride costs <¥1000. Consider staying with breakfast option only as there are good eating choices available rather than paying for dinner.

Everything! The room we stayed at had a beautiful view of the lake. The onsen was wonderful. Sumire, the staff that served our dinner and breakfast was great and the food was both delicious and beautiful.

For a westerner the breakfasts were not familiar as they were traditional Japanese. We would have liked a continental option.

Location was easily accessible by car and had ample parking lots. Located not too far from train station and near to suwa lake. Location and road along this hotel was quiet

Lovely hotel, far exceeded our expectations. Perfect base from which to visit Matsumoto andthe Flying Teahouses of Chino.The onsen is very nice and the breakfast was spectacular!

We found it a little difficult to find an evening meal in Kami Suwa and it would have been great if we could have eaten in the hotel.

Modernized Japanese style. Had everything you expected of an onsen hotel. Room of good size. Good value for money for the price we paid.

Not on lake side, though just a 5 minute walk to the lake.

Staff were very friendly and professional - facilities were excellent. The Onsen was outstanding, as was the breakfast.
