Wakariki Ryokan was the best place we stayed at during our 7-day trip around Kyushu. Our party of five stayed in the family room which was spacious and newly renovated. The room was a tasteful mixture of traditional with its tatami mats and view to the courtyard garden, and modern with its updated bathroom and lighting. What made the ryokan especially special was the lovely hostess. As an example, we wanted to take the Yanagawa River cruise and when we told the hostess soon after our arrival. She quickly made a phone call to the river cruise company (which happened to be a 5-minute walk away) and made sure that we would be able to reserve a spot on the river cruise since it was towards the end of the day when the cruises operate. She also asked all my kids what they wanted for breakfast and fixed breakfasts to their taste (my daughters had a more traditional nato and rice breakfast and my son had a western toast/eggs/bacon/sausage breakfast). Finally, the hostess also drove a couple of people from our family to the train station (20 minutes each way) so that we didn't have to call two taxis.

Hidden gem! Cosy traditional big tatami rooms. Beautiful small garden, view to a canal. Extremely friendly and helpful land lady. She provided us with extremely delicious course meal for dinner and traditional Japanese breakfast. Can recommend fully for true Japan experience!

I absolutely loved staying here! The ryokan is traditional but with modern facilities. Perfect location close to the Yanagawa canals. Staff were really friendly and helpful and they were able to prepare a gluten-free breakfast for me. Our room was beautiful and very quiet. Highly recommend!

Located near the main train station (Nishitetsu-Yanagawa Station), which is great for travelers who are visiting Yanagawa by train. There are also two river boat (Donko) services situated in the nearby river. Staff was friendly, and breakfast was very homely and nice.

There were a couple of stains on the tatami mats in our room (probably left by the previous customers) and the cleanliness can be improved just a little more. Still, it is an old traditional ryokan/inn, so it adds to its charms.

We liked everything about our 4 night stay here. Our traditional room was very comfortable and cosy. The traditional breakfast was delicious and our host was so friendly and welcoming.

Room for 2 with private bathroom was clean and spacious. Breakfast and dinner portions were huge. Host was friendly and attentive to our special requests. Parking in front of the ryokan was free.

Excellent host with delicious food. The environment was great as well.

Location is a bit hard to reach without a car or taking a taxi. The roads outside are a bit cramped as well but not too crowded so it is okay.

Well kept and clean traditional Ryokan. Host was very hospitable and japanese breakfast was sumptuous! It seems that they have western breakfast as w.ell.

Great location near train station. Big room and comfy bed. Great value for money. Quiet park nearby with temples and sakura trees.

Room and hotel is very clean. Convenient location and helpful guidance from staff who can speak fluent English.
