Lovely hotel right on the beach. Staff excellent, bed comfy. Every review is subjective, so for us this was perfect. Chilled, and also in the middle of where you want to be. Would definitely stay again. Only minus point is hotel is a little tired. But beds are clean, room is large, pool is clean, and bar is lovely. Sand underneath your toes. Syafiq at the Bar is by far the most attentive and pleasing member of staff I have encountered in 40 years of travelling. Marriott take note: This young man is Management material. Look after him, guide him and nurture him. Do not lose him. I had a specific request, and even on his day off he rode around the island looking for an item I couldnt find. Simply above and beyond, and this act 'made' our holiday here.

Hotel is a little tired, and balcony plunge pool needs to be cleaned. This is a staff training issue.

The pool is large and comfortable, with towels and other facilities arranged very well. The breakfast options are diverse, and the flavors are all quite good. The overall hotel environment is very comfortable, making people feel at ease. The room is spacious, and the cleaning staff are very friendly.

We checked in relatively late, around 12 o'clock. A deposit is required upon check-in, and the staff only provided us with one room card. We also confirmed whether there was only one, to which the staff said yes. But when we checked out, another staff asked if there was only one room card, I said yes , she said"I don't think so." If your hotel is so concerned about this room card, it might be better to include it in the system query so that you don't have to question customers at check-out, even though there's no deposit, such doubts can be quite uncomfortable.

There are a couple of things that are really special about Lone Pine: * The retro design and vibe * The rooms with balconies that directly face the sea and are close enough that you can hear the sound of waves * My room had a tub on the balcony! which is a pretty unique feature. Didn’t have a chance to use it though. * The poolside cabanas which are very comfortable and have a retractable canvas shade that blocks out the strong sunlight

There are also a couple of things that I found odd / less than satisfactory. * My pillows smelled of other people. In hindsight, I could have just called housekeeping to have them replaced, but I didn’t * No hand towels, only bath towels * Shower cleanliness - mold on the edges and on the corners and my shower drain cover was broken/missing * 3 out 4 pieces of cardio equipment in the gym was out of order. That's quite unacceptable.

The colonial architecture is so full of character and the room interior is so well thought through, and I am an Architect. Well done GDP. But most of all I loved how helpful and friendly all the staff were, from concierge to housekeeping were excellent.

The breakfast buffet could really be improved on. Hotel feels 5 star but food was like dining in a 3 star hotel. Penang is famous for its food, Lone Pine should celebrate this. Dont settle for lackluster hotel fair, especially at the amount we pay to stay here.

I love this hotel and have visited many times, The relaxed ambience, lovely gardens, and exceptionally nice staff make this the best hotel in Batu Ferringhi. Poolside lunches and afternoon cocktails were a favourite!

Disappointed that there were no hammocks any more. Also, very limited space in the room for putting clothes away.

I loved the pool. It was outstanding and probably the best pool in Batu Feringghi. The pool is better than what you get at Rasa Sayang! The staff we excellent and Murali the Brand Ambassador and her staff were great and attended to all my needs The rooms were a little dated but still lovely. It has the old touch. Slight improvements can be made The staff by the poolside were lovely The resort has a lovely ambience surrounded by casuarina trees. This provides a certain amount of peace and tranquillity! Additionally it is a fairly peaceful and quiet resort especially when you're by the pool.

Am a return guest after 10 years. Layout with beautiful front and back landscaping and Bungalow all well maintained and welcoming / relaxed vibe. Original room layout with sea facing balcony and bathroom which can be cleverly adjusted as open / closed plan is fab. Bed v comfortable. Fans most welcome. Love the old style architecture blast from the past.

1) Was disappointed about faded / aged look, no real upkeep or maintenance in rooms esp. Scratched paint on interior decor. Big circular frame for TV was jarring. Not in keeping with 1970s / minimalist feel. 2) lift got jammed 3) should hv info on local sights, foodie haunts etc for Batu Ferringhi & Penang 4) strange why there is no master control of electricity. We had to switch off items 1 by 1

We loved the hotel itself. The rooms overlooking the pool were spacious and well thought out. The balconies are huge with daybeds and mini baths. There is a games room with pool and board games. The swimming pool is beautiful, the staff are brilliant, the breakfast was varied and mostly great. Despite the fact that it is now in the Marriott group it has retained some of that more personal feel which is lovely. We were sad to leave.

We didn't love Batu Ferringhi itself, when you go out the front of the hotel the road feels a bit manic, while the beach at the back is nothing to shout about. There are some nice bars up the beach about half an hour walk. The room needed repainting but I think we got it a little cheaper as it hadn't yet been done so weren't worried, and they're in the process of repainting throughout it seems.

We had a spacious room with a kettle and iron overlooking the pool and the sea. The balcony was the size of a small room! The staff were all friendly and welcoming. The breakfast had plenty for everyone. They even gave me a tea pot and a small jug of milk and remembered each day. There were plenty of quiet spaces to relax in. The pool was lovely to relax by. The hotel is located on the quieter end of the beach. It's on the bus route 101 for George town, 102 for airport. The night markets are right outside with amazing variety of food

I wish I could have stayed longer and not had to leave. I don't recommend the restaurant in the evening. The food was a disappointment.

1. Friendly staffs during check in 2. Beautiful garden 3. Excellent cleanliness 4. Privacy matters 5. Spacious room 6. Available parking

1.Tiny space for reception - its hot, not enough seats 2. Breakfast seating is not appropriate - breakfast menu quite boring 3. Moderate housekeeping - the room occupied for 4 adults but only 3 towels given 4. Cracked plastic "drinking cup" - served food without napkin/tissue/fork/chopstick
