East Indies Mansion was a very beautifully decorated & rustic hotel. Cosy, well maintained, very clean & spacious. It’s not your typical modern hotel with pool & gym/tv etc, but if you are looking for a unique experience - staying in a home away from your home - you should come to East Indies. There are many comfy cosy spots n sofas on the ground level u can lounge in on rainy days or days when u just wish to relax out of your room! The central kitchen has tea coffee n snacks u could help yourselves too & you can also bring back your own food & eat in the comfort of the hotel kitchen- almost like your own private dining area- v shiok! The people there - esp Aitee - were super friendly warm helpful & attentive to our needs :) Aitee would give recommendations on where we can go & was very fun to chat with :))) Location also was very near hot spots like Armenian street n nearby theres great food spots bingsu, ciao ice cream, spicy nasi lemak, durian carts, etc etc etc…

I think if there were less / better constructed steps from the room to the toilet would be good. Hence not suitable for elderly or mobility impaired - but other than that, it’s a 10/10 for me!

Everything. This is not your normal hotel. There is an old style history that is so different to your standard place. The rooms are large, uniquely outfitted, and had a charm that is hard to find. The staff were super polite and helpful. The location is great for enjoying Penang, especially the food. We enjoyed Kapitan, The Spicy Crab, and The Black Kettle the most and all are within easy walking distance. For atmosphere, try the restaurant directly opposite the Mansion. The whole family, including our 8 and 11 year daughters, all want to come back and stay again.

It was all great

One of our best hotel experience in Malaysia. The hotel has been renovated beautifully and in harmony with the original style but adding a very elegant touch. Although the general humidity of the city is generating some issues on the walls, the staff is evidently keeping the full hotel very clean down to the details, such as dehumidifing the room before the guests go to sleep or starting the mosquito repellent switch for the night. The room is huge and I would highly advises the Nutmeg B and C since they have internal windows so there was no noise from the busy streets. The receptionists were great and have us lot of tips after welcoming us with sour plumbs drinks. Do not think twice, there will be no regrets (except breakfast which was very delicious but western which could be fault of the tourists requesting it though)

The breakfast was very delicious but western type, I would have loved to get a local one

Beautiful room, the bed was huge and so comfortable, lovely bathroom with a powerful shower and scented soaps available, and even a small annex room with a daybed. The lobby and ground floor is so tastefully decorated. Charming antiques and old style chinese furniture, plates and pots are arranged so prettily. The building has wooden ceilings and pillars, its gorgeous. It truly is a beautiful place to stay. The staff were so helpful and kind, very lovely genuine people. Thankyou for a wonderful stay in penang.

When some other guests came. They were noisy at night. The sound travelled. But i just tried to ignore the sound of their loud film watching and voices.

Loved the location, close to beach street and little India. Lots of restaurants in walking distance. The room was very spacious with 4 double beds, more than enough for a family of 4. Even though its location, very central, the rooms are very quiet. I really love the friendliness of the staff. They gave lots of suggestions on where to go or where to eat. Loved the little local desserts every night brought to our room. Even though there are lots of plants around the mansion, there were no mosquitos. ( And I get bitten very easily). The check-in was also very fast. I would definitely return next time we visit George town.

Nothing.

The Cinnamon Room is a decent space for a family of 5. The snacks were abundant and the tea/coffee selection was decent. The courtyard had ample seating areas and was peaceful and lovely. Kevin at the front desk was very helpful during our check-in. Atiee was personable and helpful during check-out also. We found everything to be lovely during our stay, in stark contrast to some reviews that noted noise from nearby shops. Despite our room being closest to the main door and the main road, there was no sound of traffic outside or people entering or exiting the building, which is surprising.

Our room has a tall spiral staircase which might not be appropriate for smaller children. Some might find it inconvenient that the bathroom is located on the upper floor.

- Staff were amazing and so helpful - Very traditional building with lots of character - Varied breakfast which opened us up to different tastes - location great for walking round and exploring - clean building and rooms

This wasn’t as issue for us, but there are lots of steps and things to step over in the building, so may be a problem for those with mobility issues.

The staff at the hotel were very warm and welcoming. I got one of the Nutmeg rooms so something basic for just a few nights stay. The room was very clean, tidy, and spacious when I checked in. The location is perfect and only a few minutes walk to a lot of the attractions and night markets. The hotel also offers recommended night markets and restaurants which helped me a lot in finding local cuisines. Highly recommend this hotel and will be returning to this hotel on my return trip to Penang!
