The Ren I Tang offer a unique stay experience. The building is a traditional heritage style building and maintained in that style. I stayed in the airwell room which perfectly preserved the character of the room. Room was a good size given its unique layout, good toilet and very nice shower. The stairs to the bedrooms are quite steep and there is no lift but I was aware of this before booking and didn't effect my stay but may effect someone with mobility issues (just to be aware). The staff were incredibly friendly and very helpful with recommendations of things to do and places to eat, they felt more like friends by the end of it than staff and were quite happy to chat when coming in at night. The location is incredibly convenient in the little India area of Georgetown but all of the main attractions (jettys/fort/street art) are all easily in walking distance from the hotel and there are so many food options within walking distance of the hotel you're spoiled for choice. I ate in their bistro for dinner and they offer a good range of traditional food and more western options and well priced. Breakfast was lovely, a mix of continental style and eggs cooked to order. I would happily recommend and happily stay here again

Ren I Tang was a perfect place to stay for a true Penang experience. This beautifully renovated Chinese shop house was a joy, and we highly recommend a stay here. The staff was wonderful, kind, and knowledgeable. Our room was large and comfortable with both excellent a/c and ceiling fans. Wi-fi is super fast, hairdryer and bathroom amenities are provided. Filtered water is always available. Breakfast was extensive with a lot of options, including, most importantly, lots of fresh fruit. The restaurant downstairs has many menu options, but there are plenty of good restaurants close by, including excellent vegetarian choices. The location in Little India couldn't be better. The hotel is only a block away from the CAT free shuttle bus.

We wanted to stay in a central location without having to drive out much, and Ren I Tang was perfect! It was literally a short walk to all the best sights and restaurants in Georgetown. The building is a historical masterpiece in itself. Their breakfast was a mix of local and Western fare so we found it to be a well-rounded presentation. Most hotels would charge separately for breakfast but it's included in the price, which is a nice touch. Kudos to the Management and staff for the service we received during our stay at this lovely heritage inn. From the Reception to the serving staff to the Management, we really felt the warmth from all.

This was a unique experience. A treasured heritage building, in a vibrant busy neighborhood, with a lot happening around it and a lot of street food. The staff were friendly and helpful, without being intrusive. The manager in particular was very helpful with advice on food, transport and places to go. Breakfast was varied and good, with staff suggestions and ideas on what to try. The exhibits of the previous history as a Chinese medicine house were interesting and the building has been sympathetically restored with many features preserved.

There was nothing I disliked. If you're looking for a boutique hotel with spa and beauty treatments, then this is not it - but we knew that before we went.

This is a very nice historically based hotel in a very good location for exploring the old town area. As they note you must be prepared to walk up stairs, but that allows them to keep a lot of the traditional structural material that gives it a unique charm.. At the same time our room was very comfortable, with air conditioning and a nice bathroom. We were able to open shudders and look out onto a parade that was passing by one night, as well as fireworks linked to Chinese New Year. The breakfast was also very good with a variety of regional food available to try every day, as well as eggs. We also enjoyed the cafe on several occasions.

The hotel is in a great location- easy walking distance around George Town. The building has been beautifully restored. The breakfast was great and varied and the cafe is open all day and was a great place to hang out after a days sightseeing. The staff were really helpful and even provided a box for us to package up some things to send home. I can’t think of anything I didn’t like about our stay here- would highly recommend. Just a quick men about sound proofing- we hardly heard our neighbours and the street noise stopped around 9.30pm and in no way detracted from our great experience at the hotel.

When we came in the morning, the room was ready and they allow us to check in immediately. Water was provided readily and the luggages were sent up to our rooms. For breakfast, they went to the shop opposite to get us Char Kuey Teow to eat in addition to what was already provided. They bothered to prepare us a take away breakfast on the day we wanted to leave earlier than 8.30.

It’s located at the busy Indian streets as mentioned, so can be noisy. But once the shops closed, it is very quiet. Expect motorcycles noise at 6+ in the morning as the people come to work. If you are driving, parking can be a challenge.

The room was great and clean, comfortable beds and a fabulous shower. The breakfast was unforgettable. There were lots of choices from local tasty foods and fruits and lots of delicious home-made items. Most of all, all the staff were awesome, they were warm, friendly and helpful. We felt welcome and treated as family. Joline, the manager, spent a lot of time helping us book the inter-city train tickets online so that we could have a worry-free trip in Malaysia. We couldn't thank her more. It's truely a wonderful place to stay.

We became friends with one of the managers, she is really talkative, we shared some book recommendation about life, psychology and philosophy. If you are traveling alone here you will make some friends also or be friend with the manager for sure. Very nice location and place with a small garden and a charming atmosphere like in the past. Its a family business’s.The food is also great, they have a restaurant downstairs with beer, snacks, lunch and free breakfast between 8.30 - 10.30. They also provide adapter for you! As well there is a postcard box and they sell the stamps. Cheers from KL

This is a perfect hotel! All the staff work to make guests stay wonderful! We spent 5 days in Georgetown and treated ourselves to this heritage hotel. Because of a booking issue on my part we stayed in two different rooms! Both were stellar. I did, however, love the tub room... (nothing like a soak in an antique wooden tub after a long day of exploring!) We included breakfast with our booking. Food was plentiful, and each day brought new choices! Coffee was wonderful! The location was handy. Being in little India, there were always fun things to see from our third floor window! Daily life in a Malaysian town! DO STAY HERE, if you like to be treated wonderfully in an environment full of Malay history. You will not regret it!
