Loved the location and the beds and room were nice. And the lounge/media room were cool.
The shower/bathroom was average and the lock on the door was broken so not secure which was pretty dissapointing for the price for what is essentially a backpackersOn my 3rd day my food was thrown out which was contained and labelled the day i checked in however i was told the date was suppossed to be my checkout date which i was not told there was only a sign that said label food no specifics. The house keeping staff said the bag was empty however, it was not. along with my food, my travel containers and cutlery were thrown out too all the girl could say was sorry and wasnt helpful. Other than that the stay was awesome it was a shame it was tainted with something that could have been communicated clearer

Stayed at Rm 2, ground level opp the bathroom. Close to Intercity bus dropoff/pickup point & supermart. Comes with lift so better to stay on upp floor rooms. The rooms hv no soundproofing. Can hear talking along the corridor and the slamming whenever the bathroom and room doors close. The motion sensors of the bathroom are outside the shower & toilet cubicles. Twice the lights went out while i was using the bathroom/toilet alone. The kitchen and pantry are well planned & spacious. Clear signages. Great view of L.Tekapo. Credos to the hardworking crew tt kept the bathrooms and kitchen/pantry so clean. Love the self-contained bunk. The room is stuffy with no aircon or fan. the 1/2 top.hung window had to be closed to keep flies out.

The location of Haka House Lake Tekapo is unbeatable - right on the lake with amazing views right from the building. The bunk beds are great, they have individual lights, shelves, chargers, and curtains. There are also lockers in the rooms that also have chargers in them. The kitchen was great, it's huge and there's plenty of room for a lot of people to be in there at once. Plus there's a decent amount of other common areas. And everything was really clean. Plus the staff were friendly and there's a car park just a couple minutes walk.
The rooms themselves are a bit small but that's not too surprising. The bunk beds are a bit squeaky so maybe bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper.

The entire facility is comfortable and modern. The open plan of the immaculate kitchen is inviting and the upstairs "living room" is spacious, comfortable, and overlooks Lake Tekapo with stunning views. The staff is particularly attentive and friendly. Ingrid greeted us upon check in, making our encounter smooth. And when we asked for a chair for our room Denis took care of it immediately. The staff are eager to offer assistance and advice for walks or other excursions. If you are visiting Lake Tekapo you should stay at Haka House.

Modern very well appointed hostel with really good communal facilities in a fantastic lakeside location. Good variety of shops and restaurants and a large supermarket close by. Staff were friendly and helpful. I was fortunate to get a parking spot right outside otherwise it was a short walk away. Lake swimming and a beach about a ten minute walk. And Hot Springs a little further along.
Bit tricky to find while driving. Ended up parking and walking after doing a couple of unsuccessful loops following Google Maps. Otherwise nothing not to like.

Incredibly clean and convenient. All the little things they thought of made all the difference. Super clean bathrooms. Very nice shared kitchen with ask the amenities including refrigerators. Good security. Card access to hallways only for rooms in those hallways. Body wash provided. Lockers in each room.
Excellent property but the price was higher than expected. Our group of 11 had rented an Airbnb house in Te Anau for the same price per night as 3 rooms at Haka house. Haka was much nicer but the house had a yard and hot tub.

The attached bathroom that comes with our 4-Bed Mixed Dormitory Room was pretty spacious. We were happy to see shower gel being provided since we forgot to pack ours. 😅 The shared kitchen is huge with several cleaning and cooking stations, which is great so we don't really hv to wait too long for our turns to use the facilities. It's fully equipped with multiple cooking pots, pans and utensils, plates, mugs, forks, spoons, etc. Theres also big fridges and freezers, ovens and microwaves.
There wasn't much space for all 4 of our medium size luggage bags in our 4-bed mixed dormitory room but we made it work since we are there for just 1 night.

We often stop over the night in Lake Tekapo to break up the trip between Queenstown & Christchurch. Gave Haka house a try this time vs a cabin at the campground. Did the trick, modern facilities, fabulous kitchen (all though we didn’t use it). The 4 bed dorm was suitable for our needs, kids loved their ‘capsule’ bed.
Checking in after 7pm = no staff on reception. Our family of 4 booked the ensuite dorm & would have liked to rent some towels for a shower (signs in lift saying you could rent them), but no way of doing so with out staff assistance. Seems a bit of an oversight?

The beds were super comfortable and private with curtains, light and a plug. There was a button to switch the heating on if needed and plenty of locker space. The views from the kitchen/lounge were breathtaking. The kitchen was spacious and well equipped. It’s a lovely hostel and I wish I’d stayed longer.
It’s truly a lovely hostel but if I had to point out one thing to improve it would be the automatic lights. They switch off automatically when there’s no movement but the sensors are not very accurate. They switch off when there’s people in the room and I even found myself showering in the dark once.

The best view of Lake Tekapo in town! Huge picture windows in the communal kitchen and dining room; upstairs loft area with same views plus two outside decks; right on a grassy park that slopes down to the lake. Easy access to groceries, restaurants, the beach, The Dark Sky Project. We had an ensuite room with a large bathroom. The common areas were well kept.
The kitchen layout was a bit wonky. For example, if you were working on your meal at the counter, you would be standing in front of someone's food cubby or the stack of plates. The stove tops, sinks and counter areas were all grouped together, so it was awkward to say, clean (in a sink) and chop (on the counter) veggies without a lot of moving around.
