La Compañia is a great place to stay in the historic district of Casco Viejo and discover Panama City. Its modern architecture is well-integrated into the old Jesuit convent, with some of the old walls still visible in the courtyard. It's a sprawling hotel, with 3 wings, and a bit of a maze. We stayed in a King room with courtyard view, which is a better pick if you want to stay away from the hustle of the street. The room was in the French wing which I would recommend for the homey feel of limestone walls and victorian moldings. The bed was incredibly comfortable and not too soft. Marble bathroom was spacious with large walk-in shower (no tub) but no separate toilets. There are many restaurants and eateries options on the premises, which makes this hotel great for large groups or families. The in-house bakery/coffeshop is a nice spot to visit. The hotel is well-located to explore the colorful (albeit a bit gentrified/touristy) historic district of Casco Viejo, away from the parts that are a bit more rundown (and some say less safe). I would personally recommend drinks at Element, a fun cocktail bar with a quirky steampunk theme, and dinner at Fonda Lo Que Hay, where the food is amazing, cheap and definitely worth the hype (reserve at least 2 weeks in advance). We also stayed at the Sofitel Legend, which is often seen as a rival/alternative choice hotel; the Sofitel is more luxurious and perfect for a romantic stay (especially in rooms with ocean views), while La Compañia is more vibrant and busier.

The staff, while professional, was not the friendliest or most knowledgeable. They were a bit "all business". The staff at the Sofitel was more welcoming and helpful. La Compañia is huge and gets really busy, which makes it maybe less attractive for a romantic stay than the Sofitel.

Every little detail was perfect. I always look at things like bathroom fans and baseboards - and these were perfect. Decor is stunning, French door hardware is classic and perfect. Loved overlooking the courtyard. Restaurants were perfect also - the best French restaurant (with classic excellence service) other than Paris itself. And the main restaurant was fabulous for breakfast - wonderful buffet- and also for lunch and terrific dinners in the courtyard. One doesn’t often find a hotel where all is excellent - this one is!!! Even the floral displays in the public restaurant bathroom were gorgeous! Every detail!!!

The location was excellent and the facilities were beautiful and well appointed. The staff really cared and were proactive in attempting to go above and beyond.

The restaurants and bars were not open consistently, even considering their posted hours. They also were frequently closed for private events. The property tours that were advertised never occurred despite asking twice and being told where to wait. They close and lock the doors before 1am, so if you do go out for drinks late (which is normal in Panama, and in this location), you have to consistently knock and wave your key to prove you are supposed to be there to be let in.

We loved everything about this place: style, beauty, taste, hospitality! Every corner, every spot is filled with quality and professionalism. We stayed for 5 nights in a king-room with Casco view - it is finished with a loft design with old Jesuit convent walls showing, a nice bed, comfortable lighting, spacious bathroom with a good shower, lots of space for clothes and luggage. The complimentary mini-bar was being replenished every day with fresh water, orange juice, sodas and local beer. The 5star tradition to prepare room for the night added another luxurious touch to our stay. We loved the courtyard with garden trees and the pool on the rooftop. And their 5 restaurants are literally the best in the area - each had its own specialty and attractions. Our favorite was the French one with 2 courses of duck and various sides. The Pecan pie in American Bazar is a must. The wine selection is exquisite, the interior is charming. The staff is super friendly and helpful, the managers are always on the site and willing to welcome every guest. All in all we spend most of our time inside the hotel - just didn’t want or didn’t need to go out!

Casco Viejo is tiny and lovely, lots of nice places and historic spots, but it’s too close to the “Getto” - one should be very careful when walking some distant streets. But it’s obviously getting better and better, it’s gonna be one of the most visited high-end destinations in a couple of years. Just needs more time.

This hotel is absolutely gorgeous. The story behind it, the attention to detail, the stuff, the amenities, the food everything exceeded our expectations. From the moment you step in the hotel, it's like stepping into a piece of art. Everything was meticulously chosen and no little detail feels random. The hotel has only 88 rooms divided into 3 wings: The American, The Spanish and The French. We stayed in the American wing with a beautiful design throughout it emphasizing the building of the Panama Canal though beautiful vintage pictures and memorabilia. The room was very comfortable, with 2 double beds and a little balcony overlooking the side street. The bathroom was very well sized and providing toiletries, bathrobes and slippers. We had complimentary beverages in the fridge and the cleaning crew was excellent insuring every day, we had cleaned bed sheets and towels. We also had breakfast indulged and it was incredible. A fine selection of foods, cheeses, charcuterie, fruits, toasts, cereals etc and amazing coffee selections. The hotel has 5 restaurants and they are well quite good, as well. The roof top pool and lounge is a must in the very hot and humid Panamanian days with a nice bar where you cab get refreshments and snacks. All in all this hotel is a MUST STAY when visiting Panama City right in the heart of Casco Viejo, the city built in the 1600's where old and new are blending in beautifully.

The American Restaurant was our least favorite meal while dining in the hotel.

There was nothing that was not perfect! La Compania is THE most beautiful lodging my wife and I have ever enjoyed. For those interested in the history of Panama the location and the hotel itself cannot be beat. The staff is excellent and so well trained. We were anxious to try the many fine restaurants in Panama City but were so taken with the offerings at La Compania that we took all of our dinners there. The breakfasts were also excellent.

I had a wonderful stay at Hotel La Compañía. The location is absolutely perfect—right in the heart of everything. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful throughout my visit. I especially loved the stylishly renovated rooms, which were both elegant and comfortable, with a super comfy bed. The breakfast buffet was generous and delicious, offering a great start to each day. One of my favorite features was the peaceful inner garden—a perfect spot to relax after exploring the city. Highly recommended!

It is a magnificent building and with multiple resturants, all beautifully appointed. The staff were amazing and the location is perfect. I would highly recommend Hotel La Compania.

The images shown on Booking.com are of rooms in the French wing. Rooms in the Spanish wing are not as beautiful and you can't specify when you book. We were very disappointed when we arrived but they managed to move us on the second night to the French wing which is absolutely beautiful.

Great staff they understand the hospitality business very well. The hotel has significant history in its location. The food was excellent truly enjoyed our stay.

Our room had a musty smell. It is a very old building, that has been remodeled. Elevator was designed as a Time Machine - clever and cute. It stopped working as we checked out. Throughout Panama, when you order food, it is extremely slow before you get served.
