The landscape surrounding Douro Porto Antigo Hotel is breathtaking and very peaceful. The rooms are very spacious, and the balcony has a view to die for! Being so close to the river, it has plenty of activities plus a pool to chill at.

As a vegetarian it was quite hard to stay at this Hotel, due to limited options in the Restaurant and in the surroundings. Nevertheless, I decided to surprise my bf with a dinner at this location and the experience wasn't the greatest. The staff made a mistake with his order, so they had to redue his dish; with mine, it came waaay before his was ready, so I asked to come at the same time. However, when asking this, the new plate that it came was very bland... The omelette was suuper oily and undercooked in the middle with some frozen spinach thrown in there, and the fries that came with it were even oilier and mushy... For a nice Hotel and a nice location, I would have expected better. At breakfast, at least everything went more smoothly and the food was great.

Right on the river - obvious from the photos really! And a great riverside patio from which to enjoy breakfast and dinner. The dinner choices were somewhat limited, but the food was very good. Wines are reasonably priced. A nice little pool too. Local options for some water sport.

OK, so the drive to and from the property is either challenging or fun/rewarding, depending entirely on whether you enjoy winding, up-and-down roads. Either way, the scenery is always very special.

A lovely welcome from the girls on reception - We were offered a delicious glass of Port when we arrived. We had a free upgrade to a room with a spectacular view . The hotel was VERY quiet in February. Dinner - Delicious prawn starter - and for me followed by local Trout - would have been better if it had been cooked at the last minute --- so rather dry and horrid soggy vegetables --- we ate our prawns too slowly! Delicious bottle of wine

The journey to find the hotel -- which would have been impossible without Google Maps or similar --- '' The Rota do Romanico '' A very twisty route which seemed to go on forever --! I think it might have been better if we had approached from Porto --- ( we came from Lamego to the east of Porto ) but this is a guess -- it was certainly an adventure --- but worth it to find this gem!

Sublime views from the room and the terrace/dock of Douro River. The staff was very attentive and helpful. The rooms were beautifully designed. Breakfast had many choices and was generous. We also had dinner at the hotel: great prices for a delicious meal. The views of the river were absolutely stunning! We already plan to return. Best stay during our Portugal trip.

Nice breakfast, beautiful hotel with an excellent pool oriented to the river. The pool area has a cafeteria with everything you need fue your stay. There is an extraordinary restaurant too, where we had dinner both nights we stayed in the hotel. Modern facilities and a very quiet place, ideal for resting.

Maybe the pool was somehow frozen. Rooms could be a little renovated to be as modern as the hotel facilities. I will come back because it is a very good hotel.

The physical location of this hotel is exceptional - river views for kilometres and huge mountains as far as the eye can see. The facilities were very neat and well-maintained. The on-site breakfast and lunch/dinner were very good. Great spot to sit on the deck and savour the views. The staff were very friendly. Located approximately 1 km from a regional railway station. On-site (free) parking was very useful. An enjoyable two-day stay.

No negatives re the hotel. Worth mentioning the following:- 1. Do NOT drive from the south east (Coimbra) direction through the mountains unless you enjoy driving on narrow, precipitous gravel roads at maximum 20 km/h. Instead, go via Porto (N102). 2. The hotel is a one and a half hour trip to Porto - either by train or car. 3. No day-trip boats that go up and down the Douro stop at Porto Antigo (where the hotel is). You either have to travel back to Porto or head further up the valley to catch a trip. 4. There are no shops or eating areas around the area. They are at least 10 mins away by car.

Excellent location with stunning views (also from hotelroom balcony. It exceeded our expectations! Very helpfull and friendly staff. Very good breakfast and enough variety. Very comfortable bed.

Despite new extension, the building quality of the room/building somewhat disappointing and worn out in places.......i.e. damaged flooring, wobbly wall mouted lightfittings, showerdoor not opening very well. Nothing major, but needs some tlc.

The location of this hotel is spectacular, right between the historical River Douro and River Bestança, close to the incredible N-222 road. Had an amazing view from my room during my stay. As it was off season, the hotel was pretty empty, which was not a problem as I was able to get great breakfast and dinner in the property. There's free parking right next to the hotel. There are many small towns nearby to get supplies if needed and great opportunities for hiking and exploring.

Location was excellent with a lovely view. I enjoyed the evening meal and breakfast was adequate. The staff were friendly and helpful

The soundproofing was terrible. I needed to move rooms due to the noise I could here from the neighbouring guests. The room I moved too resolved the noise problem but was an inferior room, but I wasn’t offered compensation for this. I also didn’t like that the gym is located near rooms so closed at 8pm and opened at 10.30am. Both these times are inconvenient for guests who are busy all day.

The buffet breakfast was the best I have ever had...and I like a good breakfast. The staff was very cordial and accommodating. The location is a 10+ and the beauty surrounding the location of the hotel is definite plus and the stay was very peaceful.
