We stayed for two nights, overall a very pleasant experience especially it was snowing during our stay :) Most service staff were friendly and helpful, we were offered hot tea upon arrival and two guys took our heavy luggages all the way to the room and gave a quick introduction about the facility and room. Both private and public bath are nice and clean, the public bath was empty most of the time, you can enjoy it all yourself, that’s beyond our expectation. The room is cozy and warm, quiet and private, good for couples.

Things to note: The location is a bit far away from the town centre(30min walk or 5 min drive), we rented a car so that’s not a problem for us, there are NO restaurants or grocery shops outside or anywhere closer. Also book the dinner early, they don’t have capacity to offer dinner for every guest. We cannot dine in on site even we booked more than one month earlier. Lastly, the toilet is super cold during the winter, there is no heating in that area. If you want to take a shower, you can only do that outside of your room next to private open air bath. It can be a bit cold if it is winter. Otherwise you can go to public bath to take shower inside the room.

This place was absolutely amazing. My partner and I visited for part of our honeymoon trip and we loved every second of it. If you do visit via train, you definitely need a taxi from the station as this property is quite secluded. We drove and there was free parking on the property for guests. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive. We booked in the dinner and breakfast service which was amazing. Our room was clean and cozy with a private outdoor bath. There is also a small guest lounge area where you can take in the mountain views with a cup of coffee which my partner enjoyed.

my husband and i love here so much. very beautiful place and you can enjoy a moment of silence in the heart of the moutains and high privacy . the staff are very nice and helpful. they helped us to book local resturants and welcome us once we drove in the hotel area. of course, it is better that you drive there as difficult to go down to the town at night time . the recommendation of the restaurnts are good and the welcome snacks are super yummay . you can find in the town named 今泉堂。

as the bathroom also outside the onsen (private spring) , it will be a bit cold and lack of lighting in mid of autumn . there was drizlling in one of the night, not convenicne for having a bath outside. other than that, all good.

We stayed on a traditional Japanese room with private onsen (private villa). Excellent and relaxing experience, we enjoyed our private onsen at night with a bit of snow. Personnel were amazing and extremely helpful. The whole complex is magnificent.

It was not obvious to us that the room has no shower inside, but it is located just close to the onsen and outside. We understand it is part of the experience and it was not a negative point to us, but we think it is important to note this for future guests to avoid frustrations.

Gettouan is lovely ryokan. It is very clean, the staff are extremely attentive and the location is beautiful. The food is of a superior quality and they kindly adapted the breakfast meal for one of us as we have a dietary requirement. The room was stocked with nice beverages and tea for our stay. They stocked the cupboard with enough fresh towels and yukata (light cotton kimono) for our whole stay. The public bath is clean and comfortable, and the private bath in the room is really nice for those that are shy.

Lovely, traditional style rooms in the quiet mountains surrounding Yufuin. The onsen facilities are great (don't miss the outdoor bathhouse!). We had a lovely and tranquil stay here - hidden away from the bustling cities and enjoyed hiking in the area as well.

We were unable to book dinner in advance as the restaurant was fully booked. This is a shame as half the experience of these type of ryokan is the food culture. We thought it a bit strange that they didn't give hotel guests priority for the restaurants as the hotel is slightly outside the city centre so you'll always have to walk for a while or drive/get a cab for dinner. Also no breakfast option which was ok, but missing out on the dinner/restaurant was disappointing and would only stay here again if we can book dinner too.

Tucked away in the local mountains but only a short drive to town it was an ideal location to get away and relax. The private onsen was convenient but I lived the outdoor public onsen. The view of the cedar trees, rice fields, and Mt Yufu was so peaceful and serene. Loved the bridge to the guest rooms. It made me feel as though we were retreating to our private compound. The dinner was excellent.

beautiful location, beautiful rooms, you get a rustic japanese lodge with access to traditional kimono, haori, and tabi. the room itself has a minibar with free beer and soft drinks. the highlight for me was the private hot bath which was hoter than the public hot spring. there is a guidebook in english about different resturants and bars in yufuin and the staff were able to book us. the staff spoke good english and were super helpful about everything!

The room we stayed in was amazing and the staff was extremely nice ! Would definitely recommend going there if you are looking for a nice ryokan experience within an affordable price range (compared to other ryokans). Jason was particularly nice and helped us a lot with our suitcases and with our diner booking :)

The view inside the the hotel is wonderful including mountains, trees and the bridge. We got a whole house with living room, bedroom and yard with individual spring. The room size is very big in Japan. Foods are really delicious during both breakfast and dinner. I recommend the beaf. All services people are kind. Some can speak English and Chinese.

As the hotel is far away from the JR station, the only way to get there is taking taxi. If you’re old, it might be difficult to sit on the floor while no normal chairs in room.
