The outdoor (shared) onsen was amazing.. or as amazing as an onsen can be. It’s mostly open to the cool air and the pools are warm to very hot, and so nice to bathe in and be with your family too. The food was plentiful and very nice but not a stand out to other hotels we’ve been to in Japan offering half board. The room was very spacious and pleasant… as many other people have said, this hotel is dated and there are stains on the carpets but we just looked beyond that and enjoyed being at 1800 metres altitude in an awesome outdoor hot spring. The drive up to the hotel was also exciting and picturesque.

Yes there are stains on carpets and it’s a bit dated but for under $200 AUD with two meals and a great ‘natural’ hot spring you can’t ask for better!

The onsen is available both in Kogen and Prince Hotel by shuttle bus. From Karuizawa to Hotel, there is a shuttle bus Easy to go from Tokyo. Onsen quality is good. Limitted food in the shop The shuttle bus is not reserved, although i requested more than 4 times via email and booking.com service center. No response from email. Some of the onset is closed for maintenance issues.

This property was a bit dated and appeared to be mainly for Japanese families on skiing vacation who wanted to soak in the onsen pools after a day on the slopes. The location was amazing and we very much enjoyed the spa facilities even though we felt a little out of place.

We stayed here to be close to the snow monkey park but learned on check-in that the road going north was closed making for a long drive around the mountains to see those darned monkeys…but it was worth it.

Room was equipped for 4 people stay, so very roomy and comfortable. The price with 2 meals and quality of hot spring was unbeatable. Mixed bath with bathing wear was really nice for family and friends to bathe together

Building was old, but was kept clean. The price was pretty much for food and hot spring anyway.

If you are coming for skiing and onsens, the location is convenient and the baths are amazing. The winter scenery is very beautiful.

There are not a lot of food options due to the remote location, so getting rooms with meals is absolutely necessary. The building is a bit old as well, but very clean.

Onsen

The dinner is a bit expensive (5500/per person) and the food contained cabbage for most of the veggie foods.somehow although I am a vegetarian I had some foods to eat there.But overall the amount is a bit expensive and since it’s the top of a mountain we have no option but to pay 11,000 for a dinner buffet.

Beautiful area. I enjoyed the outdoor baths, however the towel provided for the mixed bathing pools was not big enough for a larger body.

Unfortunately it was raining and I had to walk quite some distance from the supplementary carpark in the rain. The beds were quite hard.

Room was comfortable and spacious, it was nice view and good eating area and amenities.

Ping pong table had charge and only available for booking.

The two onsens were great, and we also appreciated that we could bathe at the sister hotel ‘manza prince’ nearby. The view from our room, overlooking a stream, was magical, especially as it snowed during our stay.

Of course the Onsen (Natural hot spring baths) were wonderful. The restaurant is also very good and the buffet style allowed us to try many different dishes.

The facility would benefit from a refresh. Some of the carpets were a little tired but still clean.
