Fabio, the owner is very nice and hospitable. He's knowledgeable about Salsomaggiore and the surroundings, giving good advice as to what to see. The room and bathroom are very clean. Breakfast buffet is plentiful with fresh fruit, cheese, ham, fruit juice and of course excellent Italian café. I can definitely recommend Hotel San Carlo. And I will definitely be back again.

Very friendly and nice owner! Good WiFi. Small internal parking for free. Very good breakfast (a bit more into continental (ham, cheese) than Italian (sweets only), very good coffee!). Room (double bed + small bed) is of smal/medium size, but clean and with everyting you need. It is a historical hotel - ask owner for details.

Salsomaggiore Terme is a bit off from the main road, but it is worth driving extra minutes to stay.

The kindness of the owner! Super!

I based my choice to stay here on the photos provided and i would not have stayed here if I had seen the reality. The photos listed had obviously been professionally taken but are now very out of date. First, there is no longer a working restaurant. There are choices in town, but not here. Breakfast is provided as bought in daily. The sunny well lit terrace showing tables ready for dinner, does not exist. The whole place is tired and old and falls well short of modern European budget chains like logis, ibis, etc. However, the owner , Fabio, is very charismatic and accommodating and will do everything to make you comfortable.( his reviews from Italian people on google maps are amazing!) The rooms are spotlessly clean, everything works as it should, and has free off road car parking, but the rooms need furniture updating to meet guest standards of today.

the owner explained that due to covid, all the Italian “ thermal towns” like this had suffered, many closed. He has taken in students in upper floors to help pay costs so be aware of many young people in the hotel. It’s not a problem, just seems odd at first. Although Fabio is a charming and helpful host you must be aware that this hotel in its current state falls well short of modern European standards. But if you want Italian rural tourism, at a budget price, it's here.
