I wish I learned about this hotel sooner! I could not believe my eyes when I saw the hotel lobby, elevator, breakfast area, and the room itself. For the price, the hotel radiates a classic, cozy, and expensive atmosphere. I'm a fan of classic designs and the beautiful wallpapers that adorn the hotel were all so wonderful to look at. The staff were nice and warm during my stay. The bathroom was super spacious and had nice smelling soap and shampoo. The high-ceiling room had great heating which to me was super nice especially during winter times. It was the kind of centralized heating that I wanted not those mediocre heating from split type ACs. I could use all the heat and the hotel did not disappoint! Now the location, I could not emphasize it enough, the location of this hotel is so great! There's subway station (Broad Street) less than 300 meters away that will bring you straight to Jamaica Station from where you can connect all the way to JFK airport. Another subway station (Bowling Green) also around 300 meters away brings you straight to midtown super close to Times Square and Bryant Park. From the hotel, I also just walked roughly 5-10 minutes to Battery Park from where I took a ferry to Staten Island to see the Statue of Liberty. World Trade Center and the rest of the financial district are all at walking distances too where you'll find many restaurants around and along the way. Brooklyn is a quick 1 subway station away. The hotel offers complimentary breakfast consisting of pancakes, breads, jams, cereals, and yoghurt. Wifi and satellite TV worked perfectly during my stay and there's gym at the basement. The elevator makes a cute bell sound when opening, which to me was super cool and classy. The street that's behind the hotel is a popular night life street where you'll find bars and famous pizza and burger restaurants.

I actually liked everything, but if you're a super super light sleeper you may find the sound from the heater bothersome as mentioned in the other comments here. However, in my case, I was not bothered at all and even thought it was a nice constant low pitch sound that helped me have a wonderful sleep.

When I showed up in at reception, it was 3 hrs prior official checkin time. I asked about the early checkin possibility, and the reception manager told me that it was possible with extra charge only. As far as I understood, the room itself was available. Usually hotels go toward clients in such situations. Just the next day I checked in in another hotel in manhattan and they no issues with early checking without extra cost

Great location few steps away from Charging bull and Staten Island Ferry station. Visit next door liquor store, owned by good people.

Continental breakfast… but we knew that in advance.

Comfortable room, plenty big enough for us, but decor a little dated and carpets overdue for replacement. We appreciated the all day tea/coffee facility. The breakfast of toast, bagels, tea, coffee, cereal etc was more than adequate for our needs and of better quality than we expected, from other reviews. Location for us was excellent as we were cruising from Brooklyn and it was very easy to get the ferry from Pier 11 to Red Hook, a few minutes walk away. Handy for Wall Street subway stations too and the interesting downtown sites and venues. The journey from JFK was easier than we thought it might be, Airtrain to Jamaica, LIRR to Penn and the red subway line to Wall Street. We are 70 plus with heavy luggage and we managed OK but note that at some subway interchanges, we didn't find a lift so it was a bit of a struggle with the suitcases. It wasn't a cheap stay but for New York it wasn't so bad and less expensive than other establishments we researched, but for us the location was ideal. We would definitely stay again.

Lack of fruit juice at breakfast.

From the time I entered the hotel I felt welcomed. The ability to drop off your bag until check in helps as you can do other things until check in time. The check in process was easy. The room was cosy and had everything we needed. It is located near to eating places and subways. The wi-fi was good for what I needed it for which was to keep in touch with my family. The hotel was clean in general and housekeeping was very efficient.

Everything was to my liking.

My room was very comfortable.

What I didn’t know when I booked, was that the street behind the hotel is a party street. The Friday night noise was unbelievable until about midnight. Drumming for hours. I had been offered an upgrade by Booking.com. Maybe that would’ve gotten me into a room that didn’t face Stone Street. I should’ve taken the offer. I was in the basic king room. When I arrived and realized the situation, I asked to be switched, but they couldn’t. I am assuming that the reason I got such a good rate on a Friday night was because they knew that whoever was in the rooms facing the back would be tortured.

The staff is exceptional, and the hospitality seems to come from a place of genuine human kindness. I would like to especially single out the manager, who voluntarily stepped up to fix a broken wheel on my suitcase! I was grateful to him every step of my trip home. I was also pleasantly surprised by the room, which is far more spacious than the typical NY hotel room at this price point (I did book a special deal, but still). The area is nice and quiet at night, and I was undisturbed by street noise--a huge plus. I would gladly stay here again.

The breakfast is not lavish, but I found it adequate to start the day. There is a waffle iron for those who want something hot in the morning.

I love lower Manhattan, so the location was great. I read in prior comments about noise from the bars and such on the next street, but I wasn’t bothered by that. The desk attendant did move me to a front room (without my asking) when she saw I’d booked a room with 2 beds and I was traveling by myself. She mentioned the noise, which I didn’t think would’ve been a problem. The colonial style of the room was as others have noted a little dated, but it was really a charming room with huge windows on two sides and great light.

As noted, some of the prior reviews were accurate about the partying at the back side of the building and the old-fashioned interiors, but I’m glad I wasn’t swayed by that. Breakfast was also limited, although as advertised. I poured myself some coffee and bought a sandwich at a nice deli down the street.

Great location. Well appointed and clean. Beds were very comfortable. Appreciated the breakfast although I had limited options due to an allergy.

A perhaps small point, but the main breakfast area is quite small; the overflow space is significantly away from the food buffet, and was also being used for storage of non-food things. If they could run it more efficiently that way, it would be better.
