What an incredible gem tucked into the Cayo District jungle! Perched atop a hill with pretty views, this property brings that perfect balance of warm hospitality, congenial places to gather and visit, and privacy. We enjoyed chatting with owners Chris and Jay, who gave some wonderful recommendations for places to visit and tours to take (their ATM cave tour guide recommendation was especially exceptional). Add delicious, simple food and drinks to the long list of why Gumbo Limbo is such a joy. Can’t wait to come back!

Very Personal Environment! The Owner's were very delightful, knowledgeable about the area & set up anything we needed or wanted. The Pool & Grounds were Clean and well kept! We enjoyed that in the afternoon along with the open air bar just steps away, after morning/afternoon excursions. The evening meals were prepared fresh to order using local food supply! The Owners also recommended some places for Great Sunsets & Cocktails, family restaurants near by, etc. Of which we took their advice and was not disappointed. We cannot say enough about how much we loved our Visit and would definitely recommend them to our friends and family. We look forward to going back! Dont let the name " Gumbo Limbo" Fool you... it is actually a native Tree that grows in the area and the Mayans used it for all types of HEALING remedies. This name suits the establishment very well!
We should of rented an all wheel drive vehicle.

This property and our stay exceeded our expectations. If you want somewhere a little off the beaten path, with a beautiful environment, wonderful accommodations and some privacy this is the place to book. It is off the road and in a beautiful area of the jungle. There are only five cabins surrounding an open area and you have the upmost of privacy and quiet. There is a beautiful pool and quiet deck. The owners are present, friendly, helpful and super nice. We had breakfast there daily (continental and included) and ate dinner there each night too which was home cooked and wonderful. I would highly recommend this property for couples, families or a solo traveler.

Christine and Jay were the most hospitable! My family was made to feel at home right away, as if we were visiting friends or family. They helped us find a local tour guide who also helped make our experience very wonderful. I would highly recommend Gumbo Limbo to anyone who is looking to travel to this part of Belize, which, in my opinion, is a must do.

Booking was great. Coordinating dinner can be tricky with cell service and traveling, but well worth it. Dinner and complimentary breakfast was excellent. Love the banana bread. Great drinks at the bar. Owners go out of their way to make you feel welcome - they are SO awesome. Location was very tranquil. VERY quite (except the jungle noises). Not your typical "hotel" vibe which we loved. Pool was great. Love the hammocks at the room. AC was great. Spacious room. We have a 10 and 13 year old and they loved it. Great launching place for the ATM cave tour. Can't wait to come back.
Cute jacuzzi, but no heat. Still great though. Uneven path to get to your room so rolly luggage can be a challenge, but that's what muscles are for, right?

Beautiful property — almost a botanical garden all its own. Secluded and peaceful but not hard to reach. Owners friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. Ideal place to stay for all the amazing activities nearby.
Everything was great — just be prepared for the steep and bumpy driveway to the property.

We have just spent a very relaxing few nights at Gumbo Limbo. It is a beautiful spot, and our room was very spacious and comfortable. Four toucans were sitting in the tree outside when we arrived! There is a lot to do locally and we enjoyed trips to Cahel Pech, the Butterfly Ranch, Caracol with a guide organised by Christine, and Escabeche for lunch at Upe Nai.
The breakfast was a bit limited.

We loved the serenity, the personal touches, warm welcomes and the ease of access from town (well, easy up till the driveway; but that’s just part of the adventure!) Jay and Christine were wonderful hosts! Not only did they make us feel like part of the family, they were able to give us wonderful suggestions of things to do, help us (and other guests) arrange incredible last minute tours and also made us delicious late night drinks and desserts. The property was beautifully maintained and you could feel the love that this family has put into it. Not only would we return to Gumbo Limbo without hesitation, we would also recommend it to anyone and everyone!
It was all great! Understand that this is a remote property close to the jungle, so expect cute little critters and disconnect from wifi / technology and soak up some nature.

Christine and Jay were great hosts! Helpful with local tour guide recos and willfully shared lots of awesome information! They made us feel like we'd known each other for a while prior. Super friendly and kind. While we were busy off-site, we (3 of us) all agreed that we could've stayed another few nights there just to wake up to the 50+ parrots in the morning and then relax by the pool with the toucans - next time for sure! Breakfast was good, coffee was better and the view was best (especially with a cold beer in hand! They even catered their nightly supper menu to our tastes (linguine alfredo with seriously succulent locally-sourced shrimp, beef skewers & stew chicken) :) Will definitely stay again and keep in touch! Thanks so much! --Jay, Stacey & Jen

If you are looking for a eco retreat, you can't get a better get away! There are 5 villas total so it was easy for us to rent out the entire resort for our large family trip. Christine and Jay will take care of you- just let them know what you want ahead of time. They put us in touch with a great excursions company, Belize Nature Travel, who set us up with all our customized adventures.
As an eco resort, the showers were reserved rainwater with low pressure. No fridge in the rooms. It is located off the beaten path on beautiful grounds, which can be good or bad depending on the purpose of your stay.
