Friendly, efficient staff Cosy, well equipped room Excellent cooked food Dog friendly, lovely grounds and local walk

Booking systems. We needed a two night stay with our dog close to elderly relatives. I called Hand Picked Hotels to check if there were any dog friendly rooms available, I was told there were none for our dates. I then called a number for the hotel direct but appeared to be directed to a call centre when again I was told unfortunately there were no dog friendly rooms available. Finally I made the booking on Booking.com as it gave the impression there were rooms for a dog available and after they contacted the hotel they confirmed we could take our dog.

Beautiful setting and building Friendly welcoming staff I received a free upgrade which meant I got to stay in the main house. I saw a cosy lounge area for afternoon tea. Beautiful grand staircase. Festive decorations made it really warm and cosy. Attended a party in the stable area. Perfect for a sit down meal for around 60 people. Food was fantastic and hot. Service was excellent Late checkout is 11am which leaves time to enjoy the breakfast from a menu. Not by buffet style. Highly recommend.

The position of the TV in the room. Not visible from the bed. No vanity mirror above desk area.

Complimentary upgrade. Staff excellent, including the chef, location excellent, plumbing and heating let the hotel down, and we had problems with Internet connection and with one of two Tv's. Staff did their best to resolve the issues including relocation of room. Lack of gym or pool disappointing in a hotel of this price., though walking possibilities are good.

Plumbing and heating in the block we were in, plus Tech problems. But friendly, helpful and efficient staff made it manageable.

Absolutely loved our stay. The hotel was perfect and the hotel staff went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. We'll be coming back and recommending this place to friends looking for a little getaway.

A few issues with the restaurant with longer waiting times and items missing from room service breakfast, but nothing dramatic. Quick recommendation for next time: If you know that service is unusually slow at the restaurant and/or bar (for any reason), giving guests a little heads up and providing a snack or drink right away usually makes a huge difference in the mindset and makes waiting a lot easier!

The grounds and gardens are beautifully kept. The building is magnificent.

Our room did not even have a drawer cabinet. The closet fitted two items hanged sideways, nothing else, so very uncomfortable to stay longer than one night (we were there for 3). The bathroom fixtures are outdated and unpractical. You have to enter sideways between the door and the sink. The water closet works once correctly, the second d time you need to pump with the handle!

Beautiful surroundings, lovely staff, and the food is simple but very well done.

The first room I stayed in was great, the tv had Netflix, and was clean. I extended my stay for a couple of nights but had to move to a different room on the last one which really wasn’t as good, not very clean, and felt like it was in a poor condition. Especially the mouldy smelling air con.

The staff were very friendly and accommodating to my partner and I. We stayed in the Victoria room, which was beautiful. The food for dinner was brilliant and the area is so peaceful and relaxing. We stayed as a birthday celebration for my partner and the staff made a "Happy Birthday" plate with sweet treats, which was a lovely surprise for him. We spent the morning walking around the grounds and the lake is beautiful, even in the rain and cold. We would recommend this hotel to anyone.

The only small complaint we had was that the mini-fridge kept whirring overnight but everything else more than made up for that.

Can't comment in detail as we only used the hotel as a base to travel out from each day for a family event so were not able to fully utilise all facilities, but from the little we saw of the hotel it was a wonderful place to stay.

Charging points for electric cars would have been useful, but not a major problem as there were public chargers not far from the hotel

Staff and location were excellent, no complaints at all.

Only slight disappointment was the breakfast on our second morning, it was served with streaky bacon as opposed to back bacon, which had been served up on the first day. We asked for it to be changed for the back bacon, and it was replaced without any fuss.
