Our stay at Zen & Bed was absolutely exceptional in every way. From the moment we arrived, we were immersed in a serene and unique atmosphere that blends traditional hospitality with profound cultural experiences. The tea ceremony was a fascinating and authentic experience, meticulously conducted with great attention to detail. We also participated in a Zazen meditation session, which was both professional and insightful. The monk guiding the session was incredibly patient and attentive, using a translation app to ensure clear communication while answering all our questions thoughtfully. The rooms were spacious, impeccably clean, and beautifully designed, reflecting the minimalist and elegant aesthetics of Japanese culture. Both the vegetarian dinner and breakfast were outstanding—delicious, carefully prepared, and made with fresh, high-quality ingredients that enhanced the spiritual experience. In the evening, we enjoyed a relaxing soak in a nearby onsen, which was the perfect way to unwind and complement our stay. The next morning, the monk gave us an insightful tour of the temple, sharing fascinating stories about Buddhism, temple life, and the history of the site. If you're looking for a genuinely authentic, immersive, and deeply enriching Japanese experience, this is the perfect place. A perfect blend of spirituality, culture, and traditional hospitality—highly recommended!

The guesthouse is within the grounds of a lovely temple but the experience itself is only inside the guesthouse. Staff and zen master are lovely. The zen teacher gave a very thorough explanation of zen

Tea ceremony is now a post-covid version so no passing and sharing of the bowl as one would usually do. No calligraphy available. No morning chanting. The food at dinner was beyond unpleasant - I was sick for most of the night. Couldn't eat any of the breakfast either. Japanese delicacies but just too bizarre for my western palate. VERY overpriced for what is offered

Everyone who took care of us was wonderful. We had a great time doing zazen, tea ceremony, and eating the delicious meals. The hostess arranged a taxi for us and everything went very smoothly. It has been our favorite experience because it was a personal experience and so peaceful. The rooms were clean and perfectly simple in a traditional Japanese style. Even the shower has a view of nature. The temple grounds are gorgeous with multiple gardens and the temple itself is beautiful. We would love to visit again.

I honestly can't think of anything we didn't like since we had a great time and the hospitality was excellent. Everyone was genuinely kind.

We loved everything. It felt like a real authentic Japanese experience. The tea ceremony was fascinating and in depth in comparison to others we saw in Japan, like a lesson in tea ceremonies and how to do everything traditionally. Our room was so cute and cosy, we had the best sleep of our lives on the futon beds, loved it. The meditation practice was an amazing experience in their secret garden. The food was a highlight, I was unsure at first as it’s very different to western food but we loved every single thing that was served and enjoyed trying so many new foods. The guesthouse host and the monk that looked after us were welcoming and friendly. It was only us and one other couple in the guesthouse, so we all sat around the dinner table in the evening drinking tea and chatting. 100% worth the money and would recommend doing this over a lot of other experiences we tried. It was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan.

the monks were nice and informative. They care about you and want you to have a nice stay. It was nice to be out of the big cities and somewhere natural.

I really can't say. It was perfect for what it was.

Excellent experience with tea ceremony, meditation and buddhist meals. The house is beautiful.

A bit dark and lonely at night
