The room was registered as a cultural heritage building and has a lot of history and a beautiful view of the stone bridge. The garden had butterflies dragonflies lots of birds, carp in the pond and a resident heron. The room "kiku" has a wooden tub for bathing and and is spacious comfortable and immaculate

The breakfast needs more healthy options. There were too many fried foods.

Tranquil and charming ryokan set within a hotel - felt like a secret garden. Room was very generous with nice views and lovely bathtub. Breakfast and dinner was amazing! Spoilt by quality and choice.

Mattresses on floor (tatami style) and pillows not very comfortable for older adults. Kids had no complaints though!

The Ryokan was so beautiful! We really loved the small balconies in each room that give us a view of the Japanese garden. The futon were very comfortable to sleep in, although it would be a concern for persons with accessibility requirements. The bathroom was well-designed, and I liked that it had a separate shower and bath. Location was great - easy to get to and near the nice areas of Kokura, yet quiet and safe. Staff were super helpful with our requests and made this experience wonderful. We really enjoyed the breakfast every morning - good spread with very fresh fruits and vegetables. Some alcoholic drinks and sweets were provided in the room - we were very pleasantly surprised!

Nothing, everything was great

The buffet meals had a lot of variety and the staff were helpful with our dietary questions. The suite was lovely and comfortable. We loved the cypress wooden bath and the views of the garden. The location was an easy walk to the castle and amazing shopping streets and malls. We enjoyed exploring the area in and around the castle and wished we had more time to do and see more.

At night there were strange animal sounds and scratching on the walls and roof. We eventually realized that it was flocks of birds and local cats! A little warning from the staff would have eased our concerns the first night. Also some instructions for operating the air conditioner and heaters would be useful.

The beautiful and historic garden, the delicious meals, and the spacious room with very comfortable futons. We enjoyed gazing out into the garden and pond, seeing fish swim by. The kids also enjoyed feeding the fish after breakfast (with fish food provided by the restaurant).

Nothing!

We travelled as a family of 6 pax so this was one of the few properties which could accommodate us in their Ryokan wing of the hotel. It's like an annex. I suspect the ryokan was here and the hotel built around it. Anyway it turned out to be absolutely amazing as it looks out directly into a pond and into a garden that is on #39 on a list of 50 (or more?) top gardens in Japan, and not all on the list are places to stay. The garden is small but very picturesque and the breakfast restaurant provides fish food for their numerous koi. My kids loved roaming around the garden every morning after breakfast. We chose a package that included breakfast which turned out to be sukiyaki or shabu shabu + full on buffet breakfast (which was the same on both days, but we were just staying 2 nights anyway). Definitely stay here if you want to explore north eastern Kyushu and even Yamaguchi.

The ryokan room was rather old and dated, the fittings have seen better days and the balcony doors don't slide well. We enjoyed staying here nonetheless. However the bathroom is very new and modern and there was plenty of space for us to move around. I couldn't find the light switches for all lights and I think it could have been brighter.

Authentic ryokan with a scenic view.

Half board. Dinner is exquisite but portion is small. Child meal is kiddy.

Although it is located in the city center, it was nice to find peace of mind as it was surrounded by a garden.

There is no improvement
