Welcome from hosts was great, as was advice for the roadtrip (avoid Bourke overnight, stay in Cobar or Cunnamulla). And, the room looked nice when I arrived, with Air-con blowing and mood (lamps) for light. Outdoor baths were fun. Full kitchen, with hotplates and pots as well as microwave. Full crockery/cutlery too, not just teacups. Guest laundry was helpful, I made use of washing machine and clothesline. Air-conditioning was good, a unit in each of bedroom and lounge. Excellent location, walking distance to Qantas Founders (across the road) and Stockmans Outback Hall of Fame (300m, next door).

Sadly, Booking.Com was $35pn more expensive than other sites. Over my five night stay...I could have had an extra night if I'd booked direct/elsewhere.

Saltbush retreat is a great location for the key sights in Longreach - across the road from the Qantas Founders museum and next door to the Stockmans Hall of Fame. The rooms are well appointed, with a great kitchen, lounge area, bathroom and lovely amenities such as the abundant huge bathroom towels and additional towels for the pool. We stayed in the stables which were cute and well designed and great for your own catering or alternatively to have a BBQ by the pool area. Alternatively, if you wanted to go into town for dinner it was a 30 minute (a bit hot) walk or a 10 min max drive.

The only thing I would say is that the air conditioning in the stables is a bit noisy (but I am a very light sleeper)

Great location, you can go for a 2km walk along the botanical gardens, or hire a taxi, hire a car or use shuttle buses from some of the pubs. Good kitchen and great shower and bathroom. The swimming pool was spotless and wonderfully refreshing after the high heat of the day. The outside baths were great too, and I found it surprisingly very relaxing being able to look at the sky and wildlife while sitting in a bath!

There were two days of high temperatures (39 degrees) and I found the slab hut hot. I had to keep the air conditioning on it's lowest temperature and even then it didn't always cope.

The 2-bedroom house we had was excellent value. The verandah was excellent. The surroundings were very authentic. The many saltbush plantings were unique. The pool was great after a day out and about. Wendy was so helpful and her husband Rob good for a chat. The grounds were well-cared for. The location was opposite Qantas Founders Museum and close by Stockmans Hall of Fame. It was a 30-min walk into town along the unique Linear Botanical Gardens (60 mins if you read signs and take photos!).

No complaints at all.

Saltbush Retreat was perfect for our short stay in Longreach. It is directly opposite the Qantas Founders Museum and a short distance from the airport. The cabin was clean and fully equipped for self catering. The pool was a nice relief from the hot weather and the outdoor baths would be great in winter. The owners were lovely and very helpful during our stay.

The accomodation is about 20mins walk into town which would be quite easy in cooler months along the botanic pathway. Many restaurants however offer courtesy bus services if you are dining for lunch or dinner - details of these are provided at check in and quite useful if you didn’t have a vehicle during your stay.

Absolutely amazing little country retreat in the heart of Longreach with modern and clean rooms with authentic character. The Saltbush Retreat is conveniently located opposite the QANTAS Founders Museum and the Stockmen’s Hall of Fame. From check in to check out the staff were lovely and welcoming and provided a list of recommendations for dining. The Stables and Huts are a must for your stay. The area has outdoor baths which were amazing for a night of star gazing. Would definitely stay again and would recommend to anyone travelling through.

The central QLD area is pretty hot and the even with the aircon on, the cabins were a little hot, but cooled down at night. We looked in "The Stables" and the aircon was a lot better. If we were staying for multiple days, we would book the Stables.

The Saltbush Retreat is in an excellent location, across the road from the Qantas Museum and close to the Stockman's Hall of Fame which are both a must see if you are in Longreach. The retreat and accommodation is superbly detailed in an elegant rustic style, providing us a wonderful experience.

Unfortunately, we were unable to get a regular cabin as they were all booked out and had to settle for a special accessibility room in the stables. It was still lovely with a different bathroom configuration. My only gripe is there is no daily housekeeping service, and for the room rate I would have expected this level of service.

The slab huts are quirky, but well done, comfortable and well equipped. Very enjoyable stay.

Minor points, but stopping me giving a rating of 10. The wood slabs are shrinking - to be expected. Gaps are appearing to extent that you see daylight through the walls in multiple locations. Suggest they are in urgent need of re-caulking. Parking outside the slab hut area is a pain. Trolley supplied for luggage is inadequate. It has small hard wheels which are not only difficult to pull over the many joints in the paths, but also very noisy and annoying for other guests. Something like a pneumatic tired Bunnings garden cart would be much better.

Picked up from airport promptly by Ron, friendly warm welcome and nothing was too much trouble. He and Wendy were excellent hosts and answered all my questions, they were completely on top of anything, wish everywhere was like Saltbush. Room was spotless, comfortable and suitable for me. Also after I checked out, came and picked me up with my luggage, which I left with them, from the Stockmans hall of fame, and took me to the airport, even though it’s not far, was much appreciated.

Nothing really, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Saltbush Retreat and would definitely stay again, next time in a slabhut.

The staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful. The location was ideal for tourists, and with air conditioners in every room, they were very comfortable. Parking was great, and the unit was well-appointed.

Due to the layout of the duplexes and the fact that they are mounted on small stilts, the neighbours were very close and you couldn't help hearing their comings and goings and sharing the cigarette smoke from their verandah. Next time, we would stay in one of the slab huts or stables.
