Loved the cleanliness of the hotel, loved how the staff were all really friendly and welcoming. Loved the entire calming vibes that came along being located beside a temple. We got a room with a great view of the street beside and the river, and it was really relaxing to hear the sound of the water right from our rooms. Service for dinner and breakfast were also awesome. Food was also great and very elaborate. Servers really paid attention to our needs and provided us with an individual room since we had a 2 year old toddler with us. We were really thankful for that.

Could have provided bottled water for convenience but not a big problem because there's water at the lobby and boilers are provided in the rooms. Don't recommend staying for too long because the meals provided would be very similar. But a short stay is definitely recommended!

Great place to stay, with the flavor of a Buddhist inn and the facilities of a 5* hotel. Excellent shojin ryori cuisine. We were a family and they prepared a private dining room for us. Quiet, invited to enjoy everything in a serene way. The Buddhist celebration experience was fantastic, a monk that spoke excellent English explained everything and we also enjoyed a 'private tour' to the Eiheiji. Nice onsen also. 100% recommendable overall.

I can't recall anything that I didn't like. It didn't have a parking place but there were some parking lots really close.

The staff gave a personal feeling to our stay here that we appreciated. Even though we were some of the only English speaking guests they made sure to translate everything for us thoroughly. The meals were beautiful, delicious, and contained many local treats. The morning ceremony and tour at the temple was a once in a lifetime experience of beauty and spiritual power that I will treasure for years. The room was comfortable and the onsen was delightful.

We decided to go off the beaten path to visit Eiheiji and it was so worth it! Although out of our price range, we chose to stay at Hakujukan because dinner and breakfast are included but not just any kind of meals. They offer Washoku (includes a little bit of everything like meat and fish) and shoujin ryorui which can be entirely vegan upon request. It did not disappoint and has been my most standout meal so far in Japan! I haven't eaten dairy in almost a year so when the texture of the Yuba reminded me of a burrata, I was completely blown away! The Ryokan itself is beautiful and elegant. It's also just around the corner from Eiheiji Temple which was one of the most beautiful places I've ever visited! The whole experience was just amazing and would definitely return!

Drinks weren't included with dinner but I wasn't expecting them to be. Everything was great and we have no complaints!

Helpful and amazing staff. They take special care of each and every guest. Dinner and breakfast course were interesting, extremely filling and delicious. Morning prayer was peaceful at the Temple Grounds. Rooms are spacious with beautiful views.

You need to park your vehicle in one of the nearby parkings. But there are many surrounding the property so it works fine.

The staff were incredibly kind, efficient and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. They even took me to tge post office to forward my luggage. English was spoken well by most of the staff. After weeks of struggling with vegetarian food the food here was superb.

This was probably one of the most beautiful towns I’ve ever been to while traveling. Eiheiji Temple and Hakujukan part of that reason.

Traveling here as a tourist isn’t the easiest thing in the world using Buses and Rails. Guess that’s part of the reason why it is so wonderful. it’s not easy to get to.

Very near to Eiheiji temple , and somehow connected to Eiheijitemple so that a visit to morning service of Eiheiji-monks (stunning) and one basic instruction to Zen is included. Very clean place, very good veggie food, nice onsen

Quite expensive and somehow designed for quite wealthy Japanese who spend exactly one night

We had a great stay! Beautiful room and amazing food at dinner. Breakfast was hard for us as we are not used to eating this type of food in the morning. The onsen was ok but sadly no relaxing spot or sauna.

This hotel is perfect for those who are truly culturally curious about Zen Buddhism and traditional Japanese architecture. Don’t expect flashy design and fancy amenities - instead, you can appreciate all the serene and thoughtful details that make you want to slow down and be present. Truly one of the best hidden gems!
