My stay at Hotel Heritage Madurai has been really great ! This hotel has been restored with all the comfort you need when you do a city tour in India but keeping the charm of old houses. Very nice welcoming at the reception. All rooms are displayed in the very large garden of the hotel and you can even use free bikes to go around the property. Rooms are very comfortable, maybe few would need a little refresh but nice furnitures and great service. The pool area is fantastic and it's really a pleasure to lay down around after city tour in Madurai which could be exhausting like all indian cities. They did organized a city tour with main places and temples to visit in a very reasonable price. It was low season, so not over crowded. I had dinner 3 times in their restaurants which is considered as one of the chic place to stay. Restaurant's staff was exceptional and they always wanted to make you the most comfortable as you could be. Sorry if I didn't remember their name. Breakfast is very large with some differents foods, indian and continental, every day.

Not an issue, but better to know that they don't do exchange money but they can indicate you the closest one.

We upgraded to a pool villa..thank god we did and it was large and comfortable..Nice plunge pool that was coolish. The gardens are lovely with amazing shade. Main pool is beautiful but way too hot. Nice food

The main pool was way too hot to swim in. Need to have a fresh water in the pool daily. It was exceptionally hot in the reception area. The bar is a bit bland, dark and dingy Dont stay in the lodge room, get a pool villa. We didnt like Madurai, dirty, very poor infrastructure, all the tourist sites are closed for repair or under repair if open. Would only stay one night as a transit. Nothing to see in Madurai in our view. Just stay at the hotel.

The estate that the hotel islocated within is exceedingly picturesque and yet very walkable. The nexus of this hotel, the reception, pool, dining area are all outdoors and very tastefully done in a refreshed and classic colonial style. The staff at the restaurant are exceedingly attentive and the food is to an excellent level. Our villa with a private smallpool was exceptional and this was probably our favourite hotel on a 2 week family road trip around tamil nadu, involving 5* hotels.

There are a few mosquitos, bring repellent. The Meenakshi temple was under scaffolding (Apr 2025). Not the fault of this immaculate hotel of course.

We stayed here as a family, including a senior citizen and a baby, and had a wonderful experience. The facilities were very clean and well maintained, and the staff made our stay truly comfortable. Their hospitality was outstanding – every time we requested something, whether it was buggy service for the senior citizen or any other assistance, they were prompt and always served us with a smile. Both housekeeping and restaurant service were excellent. Overall, it was a very pleasant stay and I would highly recommend this hotel for families.

We are a semi retired couple, away from home for a month, who needed a base allowing us to both explore Madurai and to relax before the next phase of our trip began in Sri Lanka. The Heritage Madurai was perfect for our needs as we arrived on the overnight train from Bengaluru. On one of our days we explored the amazing Menakshee temple and its surrounds, but on the other two days we relaxed in the lovely grounds and poolside, catching up with emails and our reading. The small gym was nicely equipped and the traditional style pool is delightful. The onsite restaurant and bar made it unnecessary to leave the premises - very unusual for us. The buffet menus encouraged culinary experimentation. We stayed in one of the plunge pool units - a self-indulgent extravagance. And yes - the short flight from Madurai to Colombo was very convenient.

We found nothing to dislike.

It was a very pleasant oasis within Madurai. What we saw of Madurai was for the most part a very old, rundown, very crowded city. Heritage Madurai is a campus of attractive one and two-story buildings, with some nice greenery and trees. The rooms we had (I believe they were called “Deluxe”) were large and attractive in an historical sort of way. The bathrooms were also large and worked well.

The rooms looked basically clean. However, after walking around the room for about 30 minutes after taking a shower, the bottom of my feet were black, much more black even than after I’d walked barefoot through the Madurai temples for about 2 hours. We found the dining room pleasant enough, but the food at dinner boring.

This is a beautiful and exceptional heritage hotel, modelled some years ago by the late Sri Lankan architect, Geoffrey Bawa. He has done justice to it and the staff continue the tradition. Nothing - absolutely nothing - is too much trouble for them. We had a suite with a private pool and it was glorious. Our young adult kids had a twin - also lovely. The breakfasts were marvellous and the buffet dinner we had on our first night was great. The hotel is set in the most wonderful gardens and has a magnificent granite pool - what a gem it all is. Stay there - it's a bargain for what you get.

Nothing at all.

The room was very spacious and well laid out and there was ample car parking space close to the reception. Breakfast options were great - it would be good to have more local breakfast items. The property is very calm and green, so the overall experience was great.

The open air coffee shop has mosquitoes - the dining area should be made available during coffee time so that guests can avoid being bitten or insect catchers should be installed in the coffee shop area. The AC installed in the room was old and noisy and did not really cool the room, also very loud during the quiet hours, woke up around 3AM. Chair needs to be provided in the room to use the worktable.

The Heritage is an "oasis of calm" in the congested/ crowded/ polluted/ dusty city of Madurai. Located on one of the main roads about 3km from the main Meenakshi temble, the Hotel has spacious and well manicured grounds with an 'old world' charm. There are lots of trees, lawns and gardens. The "Luxury cottage" room was very spacious with a private plunge pool and a large washroom/ bath area. The beds were comfortable as well. The Restaurant offers a buffet at night - which was quite good and so was the variety at breakfast. All this for Rs 9000/- is excellent value for money. They also have a Spa offering Ayurvedic massage treatments which we took and enjoyed. Staff are well trained and courteous. All in all, a must stay hotel when you visit IXM (Madurai).

Should have stayed longer !!

Quiet and peaceful once inside the grounds. Massive room with huge bathroom. Great buffet breakfast although there could be some gluten free options available. Very reasonable spa treatments.

I was a bit disappointed to see a cheap, tatty shower curtain in the bathroom and a purple plastic hair dryer. I would have expected more attention to detail in a 5 star hotel. Also the light on the vanity mirror wasn’t working. There was only one chair at the table, had we ordered room service we would have needed two. There was only one bedside table which I thought odd. The sofa looked quite old and stained too.
