Great location for an early flight. Close to the airport. Near a bunch of restaurants and a nice local park. Enjoyed our quick one night stay over.

Our flight arrived after our rental car office was closed, so this was a great place to spend the night, close to the airport. I appreciated that we could be in the same room as our 3 children. The breakfast was fine. The staff were wonderful, so polite and helpful.

There was a little confusion with the shuttle. Once we arrived, we texted (through WhatsApp) that we had arrived & that there were 5 of us. They gave me a taxi number to look for. After a decent length of time, a small car, with a different number, pulled up, saying the name of this hotel. Luckily my husband spoke Spanish, and it sounded like something had happened to the car on the way for us. I texted the hotel and they said this number was OK, so we tried to get in. It was a tight squeeze with the driver, plus five of us, 2 suitcases, carry-ons, and backpacks. We made it work, but a car more suited to the size of our family would have been much better. I'm not sure if this happens often, or if there was a problem with the larger car.

Hotel La Guaria was a charming little hotel which was perfect for my late arrival to Costa Rica. The manager communicated through Whatsapp and sent a taxi to pick me up at 1 am. The hotel is quaint and clean. The room was fine for me and the water pressure in the bathroom was excellent. The air conditioner in my room didn't work, but the ceiling fan kept the room comfortable enough to sleep. Breakfast was simple, but plenty. The pool and surrounding garden was a peaceful place to cool off, read and relax. The front desk staff were kind, helpful and informative! The cleaning staff were friendly and helpful. I was able to leave my bags at the hotel for several hours after checkout while visiting town, before leaving for San Jose.

Location was perfect for the airport, and access to central Alajuela with restaurants, grocery, park, etc. The airport shuttle was convenient. The rooms were small but nice with AC. A basic breakfast was provided with breads and fruits for vegetarians. The pool and courtyards made the stay feel even more relaxing like an oasis in the city. Would stay here again.

The communication with directions to find the airport shuttle were a little unclear, but it worked out. They also only cover one way from the airport. I had to return the next morning for a domestic flight and they charged me $9. This wasn’t bad, but would’ve been nice to know up front when booking. For the breakfast, it would be nice to have ingredient labels by the bread selection for people with dietary preferences or restrictions like dairy & eggs. It was also strange walking through a storage garage to get to my room, but it was pretty clean.

The shuttle from La Guaria to the airport was on time and drove us perfectly at the airport. The breakfast were great and at a really convenient time. The rooms are small but it is ok! We are there to sleep :-) and the rooms were clean and comfortable. The staff was amazing to help us with our trip to San Jose. They arranged a taxi for us to get there and back! I really enjoyed having a staff member available 24hres a day. We were also able to leave our big luggage at the hotel while we travelled around the country for 8 days. When we came back our luggage were untouched and exactly the way we left them!

Nothing to change! Everything was great!

The staff was friendly. Room was clean and ok size. We didn't have time for breakfast. It read thet they only serve it after 6.30am, but it was actually set at 5am when we left.

The room was pretty noicy. Windows let all the street noice in. The person at the front desk told us expressively how the free airport shuttle would be direct and would not make any stops or pick passangers from any other hotel, when we asked about it. When in fact it did stop to pick up some people on the way. This was not a huge delay and we had plenty of time, so no harm done. I just appreciate honesty.

Free taxi for one ride either direction - additional ride (for example, back to the airport following morning) if needed was only 8 or 9 bucks - you may experience longer wait times getting picked up at the airport to go to the hotel, however, travel in the city is at the mercy of traffic which in San Jose can be extremely heavy at times. Additionally, when we arrived at San Juan Santamaria at 10:30pm, on landing the hotel informed us that because they had experienced an issue that evening and were short on rooms, asked if we minded staying a block down the street at the Park View - same deal - no great inconvenience for us.

No coffee available at our 4am call for a taxi back to the airport. Make a pot of coffee for those who have to travel early.

close to airport, confortable, reasonably priced. This is exceptional value. The key is correct expectations: i.e if expecting a 5 star place will be disappointed. IF looking for reasonable priced and modest accomodations to sleep this is it!!

low lighting in room and challenge forthose with eye sight issues. More protein for breakfast. Many good cheeses in costa rica so prefer not to have highly processed cheese.

Great budget option in the centre of Alajuela, just a 10-minute drive from the international airport, and easy walking distance of the sites, bus station, soccer stadium and restaurants. Simple but nicely furnished clean rooms and bathrooms, and a standard complimentary breakfast. Third floor rooms have a view of the cloud shrouded mountains. Friendly helpful staff. No lift. There's also a nice pool for relaxing in after a busy day of sightseeing. Nearby restaurants: we loved Hibiscus and Snr Patacon. Trips: we took a taxi to Poas Volcano ($100 round-trip but clouds obscured the views; book park tickets in advance) and a bus to Rescate Wildlife Centre (great place to see some of Costa Rica's wildlife in large enclosures).
