The room was large and we also had a fridge which is a bonus. The bed was comfortable. It has a great lobby. We did have issues with hot water during our stay but were compensated without me having to ask . The people on reception were very helpful regarding the issue, so on that basis, I won't leave negative feedback as my issue was resolved. Good and prompt customer service outweighed the issue . (I have, however, mentioned it because it happened and feel my review should be honest.) Problems can happen, but ten out of ten for a quick resolution.
Hot water issues, but we were also compensated for this, so the issue was resolved. Although originally a negative, it turned out positive.

The Lobby is incredible. Tastefully restored. The rooms not so much. The intent is obvious. There's still a lot to do. Loved the proximity to trains. Alpine is the perfect sized west Texas town. The hotel is a work in progress. However we will be back.
Shouldn't you announce to arriving guests (before they arrive) that the only refreshments are water and coffee! We know the restaurant is a WIP however a little smorgasbord in the beautiful lobby..perhaps?

The room we were originally booked in to, was extremely small (we have a walk-in closet at home that is bigger than room 219). BUT the thing we liked BEST about the Holland Staff, was that they changed our room assignment with no problems, made us a lot more comfortable and happier! The staff bends over backward to ensure the comfort of their guests,
sadly, there was no breakfast service availability but the coffee that they provide for their guests from 8-11 AM daily is the best tasting coffee we have had in a long time.....There were trains that ran through the town, very close to the hotel, and their blaring horns were a little startling... HOWEVER, when we were switched to our better room, we DID find two sets of earplugs on the nightstand - the staff is very attuned to guest comfort! Being a historic hotel, that was operative for over a century, not surprised that it was close to the rails...Staff was great and we'd come back again for sure!

We had three couples traveling together. The lobby is large and spacious. There is a beautiful outdoor courtyard we enjoyed in the afternoons having cocktails. The Holland House also has a side tv room where the guys could watch football and girls could play cards. We used that room in the mornings having coffee and to gather in the evenings after our excursions to sightsee in the area. There is an excellent breakfast restaurant down the street where we ate every day and a restaurant there or others in walking distance. We ll go back! Staff was very kind and helpful. I’m
The room next door had loud talking and the walls are thin.

I like staying in old hotels that have kept most of their heyday charm. The room was fairly large for an older hotel and the bathroom was what I find on other older hotels which was small. It was a little cramped in there but it was fine. When booking a room at an older hotel you have to temper your expectations but here, it was much better than I expected. There are good places to eat withing walking distance.
Other comments said that there was dust under the beds so I looked, Not only was there dust but there were ear plugs there as well still in their wrappers. You would think that by now management would read these comments and have staff sweep under the beds, That shouldn't be something hard to accomplish.

Everything , the ambiance. The patio and drinking my coffee in the morning listening to the birds . The lobby was absolutely beautiful. So much history to read in the lobby and hallway to our room . Nice comfortable and cool room . I like Texas history so much and saw so much of it in the hotel .
Just that the restaurant was under construction. But no big deal . We understand.

Hotel is historic and well-maintained, and right in the middle of most of what we wanted to be part of in Alpine (restaurants, murals, etc.). Room was nice, they had a small refrigerator and a microwave and a small coffee pot. No breakfast (although there was free coffee and some snacks) or lunch--there are several decent places for both close by--but their bar and restaurant (dinner service) were very, very good. Drinks and meals were very reasonable, and we had several exceptional dishes. We are getting a vacation place in Alpine and will stay at the Holland again!

We loved the vintage, restored historical feel of this old hotel. Nice old sitting area with fireplace and a nearby billiards room for relaxing. The room was large and very clean and comfortable. The staff were very nice and helpful. We couldn't get into the restaurant (no reservation on a busy Friday) but ate in the bar. Food was wonderful and the bartender (Carlos) mixed us up some amazing cocktails. Parking was fine in an adjacent parking lot; though the spaces were small there were plenty of space and it was reasonably lit at night.
The train that sounded like it came through the room at about 5:30 in the morning. However, overall we really liked this hotel and would certainly stay there again.

The location was in walking distance to restaurants, bars, and shopping.
I was disappointed that the in house restaurant and bar were closed with plans for remodeling. Not their fault but was not posted when I booked.

Historical building with a large lobby which was beautiful. Room was spacious, we had a King bed. Convenient location. Bed was comfortable.
Restaurant was out of business. TV in room was small considering the distance from the bed. Sofa in room was very soft & lumpy making it hard to get up.
