Very clean & tidy room. This is not luxury accommodation but a great price for a room with breakfast included. Room was a good size & facilities were good. The restaurant/bar are also clean & tidy and the dinner was superb - I had the Salmon & my husband had the Venison pie which we would highly recommend. Breakfast was pretty good, recommend going early. If you are a fussy person, do not stay here but if you are after a nice, tidy & clean accommodation & at a great price I would recommend this for you.
During the cold months the heaters need to be turned on at reception as we found out because its central heating - just speak to reception to request it be turned on if you are cold. Some of the accommodation does not have parking straight out your door so if you require this, request a room with parking straight outside when you make your booking.

The bed was fine and room overall was comfortable. The staff were exceptionally gracious and friendly. We wanted a large salad for dinner and noticed it wasn't on offer in the restaurant. The restaurant staffer asked the cook if he could make a large salad with chicken, and after some negotiation, he agreed. The salad was fresh and the chicken pieces well-seasoned and hot. Unfortunately, the only dressing they had (and I asked for something different) was a mayo/ketchup mixture passed off as thousand island. Again, the staff everywhere were exceptionally gracious and friendly!
The breakfast was just okay, but the perked coffee wasn't very good, so we ordered two delicious flat whites at an additional cost.

Breakfast was great as was the dinner. The location as a stopover between Queenstown and the glaciers is ideal, a lot of buses stopping in Haast doing the same.
No a/c so pedestal fans used a lot as it was a hot day and night - geared to provide warmth more than cool. Shower was tiny with a curtain and there was some mold in the bathroom. Outdated but adequate. Beds comfy. Main thought...its a stopover and the hospitality and food and comfy beds overcome any of the lack for city slickers.

Location suited us very well for our one night stop. The area is stunning. The staff were welcoming (and hardworking). The two rooms we had were clean and comfortable. The shower was good, and toiletries and hospitality tray all fine. We were able to park outside one of our rooms, and we could reach the second room via an internal corridor. Impressed with the lively restaurant and bar with both visitors and locals using it. Food was great. Breakfast was buffet with a nice selection of cooked and cold food. There is not a great deal in Haast so it is advisable to take advantage of the restaurant and order breakfast in advance for a better deal.
It is a little isolated, but we did know this as we were using it for a stopover on our journey. Don’t expect fast internet in this part of the world! Had trouble using keys to lock one room (reported to Reception).

Haast is only a small town and the Heartland was well placed with fantastic views all around. It was comfortable and cosy and had the bonus of breakfast included, which included comprehensive cold items, danishes, and anything off their long list of hot items. The poached eggs were great. We also had dinner in the on-site restaurant, which was very tasty, and the bonus of a huge open fire keeping us warm. The room was comfortable and well appointed. Recommended

Good breakfast, it's the middle of nowhere so buy this with your room rate. I'm gluten free and they didn't have bread so if this is really important to you then take some. I just ate more bacon so they lost really. Staff friendly but maybe a little understaffed as they all seemed to be doing everything. We got to park right outside our room like a motel but that's not the case for half the rooms so be sure to mention if you have mobility issues. We had a fridge and the room was large.
The room had a few issues, some due to the hotel being old, and some because other customers had no respect and/or didn't let the hotel know about problems. I let the manager know and whilst the problems couldn't be fixed during our stay she was very responsive.

A classic coast retreat, with a room with view of the setting sun and auroras when able to observe. A great handy location midway between to more populous city's, the scenery is spectacular in this part of the country and the trip to Jackson Bays when the road is behaving itself is an added draw card, look out for those Weka's, and Kiwi if you are lucky.
TV reception is always a challenge some days

Comfortable place. Had 1 double bed and 1 single bed. Lovely shower with easy to adjust water temperature. There is a Salmon farm & cafe abt 30 minutes drive away. Must visit for salmon enthusiast, fresh and tasty. South Westland Salmon. Contact Bec 03 5751 0837.
No heating. We were told that heater was centrally controlled but heater didn't function. Since it was not a cold night, we were not bothered. Price is high and should be lower.

The complex looks faded and jaded from the outside - worse than when we lived in Haast in the 90s. However, the room was modern and spruced up and comfortable. We also liked the atmosphere in the bar, and not a bad meal and breakfast.
Only the look of the place from the outside. The natural scenery to the south, east and north is the best anywhere, and yet this is the best we can do architecturally. Could it be reclad / painted?

Parking at the door. Good size rooms we had queen and single bed in our room. Both very comfortable. Bathroom decent size good water pressure. Lovely restaurant which we ate at whole of our stay, great food and service. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble all staff friendly and helpful. Not much in vicinity but we used as a base.
