What a fantastic gem of a hotel, this was one of our favourites during our journey around Sri Lanka. This hotel is like arriving in a little peaceful oasis in the middle of Unawatuna. We arrived early around 11am and the hotel allowed us to check in early, which was great. The team here are really friendly and all are happy to help. The manager checking in on us a few times to see if we were enjoying our stay and was really welcoming. Our room was huge and the bed was really comfy, it had everything you needed. The pool is lovely and if you happen to be there around 6pm, you will see all the monkeys heading back up into the jungle across the pool. Breakfasts were great and had a lot of choice and the team working in the restaurant are fantastic. We hugely recommend this hotel and we will be back again.

Nothing on the hotel and staff, but we didn't find some of the other guests very friendly and there was a few that allowed their very young children run around the pool area without supervision, which made us feel like we needed to keep an eye on them, so we didn't hang out around the pool as much as we would have liked too. Also being in the jungle as expected there was a lot of mosquitoes, so strong repellent is needed.

The hotel is set in a beautiful and dense garden (if not jungle). The staff was friendly and always helpful. I personally liked the room a lot and slept very well. The fact that the hotel lies a bit back from the beach is a huge advantage, since it is exceedingly calm. A short walk of maybe 5 minutes gets you to the beach. You can even use the beach front facilities of another hotel belonging to the same owner.

The rooms we stayed in were rather dark and a bit damp, but that cannot be helped, I guess. It didn't bother me very much and putting on the AC for a bit mostly remedied the problem.

The hotel is. situated in a green and quite location, just a short walk from Unawatana beach. Staff is very attentive and thoughtful. Breakfast is wonderful, with fresh fruit every morning and a buffet of Sri Lankan and western choices. Even the coffee was good, which is pretty unique in Sri Lanka! Our two rooms were on the edge of the wonderful pool.

There’s not much to not like. The rooms are in blocks in multiple locations. This was no problem for us, but can lead to a small walk to central facilities. We were invited to check the 3 other hotels of the group, but unfortunately did not have enough time to do so.

I stayed here with my sister for three nights. I highly recommend this place. It is beautiful, the rooms are spacious and so clean and the bed was so comfortable. The breakfast is amazing and our last night we had dinner at their restaurant and it was great. The best thing about this place is the staff. Everyone was so welcoming, helpful and just amazing. I will definitely come again to this hotel. It is so pretty and luxurious but with a homelike feel.

Room & pool were nice & clean. Room smelled nice, towels for pool are provider. Bed was a bit wobbly & shower gave hardly any water. The view in room was nice but maybe not in balance with the 140 steps stairs we had to take to get to our room. I would ask for a room around pool next time ;-) Staff was really great and food was fine.

Compared to other hotels, resorts & guest houses; the price was rather high.

Thambapanni Retreat was one of the best hotels we stayed at during our trip to Sri Lanka. It has a rustic vibe to its facility and has quality amenities. The room was as mentioned on Booking.com and also came with a complimentary massage option. Surprisingly, the staff also gave us an option to use the nearby Thaproban Waves swimming facility which we gleefully accepted. All in all, it's a value for money hotel with near perfection in what they offer. Note - Breakfast spread was delectable!

Beautiful buildings, friendly staff, the pool. Good breakfast. Close enough to the beach. It was a bit exceptional having to pay beforehand but luckily the stay was pleasant so no issues there.

There was occasionally some strange noise (banging, moving furniture) coming from upstairs at night. Some visitors might be interested to know that the hotel clientele (as well as the town)consists over 90 % on people not exactly known for cordiality towards locals or other tourists, but the friendliness of locals and the lovely staff compensated the sulkyness we witnessed.

I had a room above the yoga area; large room, that was clean and spacious. Everything was clean and well maintained. The pool didn’t look used (maybe because it was slightly out of season) so I went to one of their sister hotels by the beach; I fill recommend that for the day! The sunset by the rocks was stunning. Great breakfast at the retreat and great service amongst the staff. Great location too, only a couple of minutes to the Main Street of Unawatuna.

An exceptionally charming hotel, built on a cliff with the jungle all around! For lovers of peace and nature, this place is a real gem! The staff is so friendly and always smiling. The breakfast is copious: a wide choice, from continental to Sri Lankan, plus a plate of fresh fruits! You can also book ayurvedic massage sessions (€20 for 90 minutes) and yoga sessions at unbeatable prices. The hotel also hires out scooters for excursions. The superior room with its view of the jungle is breathtaking! We had the visit from purple-faced langur and toque macaque right opposite our balcony! Don't worry: their presence is not invasive. Just don't feed them! Finally, you can also dine at the hotel, which offers very fresh seafood: tuna (a real treat for gourmets!), tiger prawns, etc. If you eat out, you'll pay a lot more for the fish! This hotel is just magnificent and has won our hearts.

The eoom was very nice, with big balcony, the staff was extremely friendly and helpfull, the pool was clean and perfect for our child. But especiqlly I liked yoga lessons every mornig with great teacher with lots of knowledge.I highly recomend and I have been practicing yoga for some time now. Reiki therapy was also great experience.
