We loved our 3-night stay at the Chipman Hill Suites on Sydney Street. Having a suite with a separate bedroom, bath, and sitting area gave us lots of room to spread out. The quality of bedding was excellent. Having access to the common areas of the property such as the sunroom and sitting rooms was wonderful and allowed us to fully appreciate the beauty of this heritage mansion. Having access to free laundry was wonderful and appreciated. The location of the property is excellent. While parking spaces are not included, we fully appreciated the option to purchase a local street parking pass for our stay. Staying at a property such as this is 100% better than staying at a regular chain hotel. It gave us space to spread out and have a wonderful opportunity to experience a heritage building.
There was nothing we didn't like about the property.

This was our second time staying at this hotel. We love the old time feel it has. The rooms are clean and contain everything you need to make a small meal or make some tea. The common areas are terrific for reading a book, playing the piano or some chess. We will definitely be back for our next trip in SJ. The location is terrific and it's very accessible to walk to all of the uptown restaurants and attractions in 5 mins or less from the hotel.
I'm not sure if we just misread the information but we thought our room was going to have a large soaker tub. There wasn't one, so this was a bit of a disappointment. But there was a regular to smaller sized tub and shower in the bathroom that was well equipped with toiletries and lots of towels.

Beautiful century home. Amazing rooms on the main floor. Everything is immaculately clean and the bed was comfortable. Great shampoo and soaps , coffee and tea were provided.
It’s such a shame that the main floor rooms are probably not used. There is no food or beverage service, no cafe or meals available. It would be lovely to sit and enjoy those rooms. A perfect opportunity for a B and B. But our suite was not terribly practical. In order to watch tv we had to lie in bed. There was really no practical place to put our belongings. No elevator but absolutely no way there could be one in this lovely old home. All in all however, a great place to stay in St John.

The building itself is very nice and well-kept. Quiet, and the room and bed were very comfortable. Having laundry facilities on-site is nice, though we didn't use them. It was easy to walk to the waterfront, a nice coffee shop, and restaurants.
The parking situation is not ideal. We parked in the school parking lot across the street per arrangement, but there were several guys hanging in/around that lot in the evening/night. One was trying doors on cars in the lot. We were on a long road trip and had an expensive cooler, camping mattress, and other things in the car, so we didn't feel it would be good to leave it in that unsecured lot with transient folks overnight. We found our own parking elsewhere.

The place was easy to find. The parking situation was extremely well specified so I was able to park without problems. I met with no people but the instructions were so complete I had no problems getting in. The room was pretty quiet, given that it's in a city, and the bed was extremely comfortable.
When I turned on the shower and stepped in, the floor of the bathtub was so slippery that a fall seemed inevitable. There's a large rail inside the stall you could use to catch yourself but that seemed a ridiculous solution. I stepped back out of the stall and didn't bother taking the shower. I've never done that before, anywhere. There's something especially slick about the material of the tub and shower stall that felt like an unexpected danger. I wound up washing in the sink.

Beautifully decorated facility, felt very much at home, a place I wanted to spend time in me in, very clean and tidy, everything I needed was in the kitchenette, service was prompt and responsive, I felt taken care of. Close to everything, overnight and day parking available. Laundry machines available.
The homelessness in the area. In and of itself not an issue but not comfortable outside in the dark as some approached me and they did not seem well.

It’s was a very grand luxurious house . Owners have preserved that quality. I like how you can wander around the first floor rooms. Check-in was easy . Didn’t see another person it was like we had this mansion to ourselves. There are 10 rooms & didn’t hear noise from other rooms so house must be built well.
Shower curtain rod fell down but we fixed it no problem. You might want to get your maintenance guys to look at it. (Room 2)

Excellent location to stay at this heritage hotel. Room service was very good. Free parking provided on the opposite side of the hotel. There was an incidence of a guest car break-in. Be aware of the surroundings in the parking space especially during summer holiday period, as the parking site is a school property
Free and safer parking lot

We loved the historic building on Sydney Street. Full of character, it greeted us with its beautiful common rooms on the main floor, taking us back in time. We had clear instructions as to parking and entering the building and felt quite welcomed by the note left for us in our room. Extras were provided such as books through the building and a washer and dryer for our use. If we needed anything, housekeeping was there to provide. The bedroom in our suite had a beautiful bedroom suite with ample storage for clothing, and most importantly the bed was heavenly to sleep in.

The minute you walked in the front door you said wow. The furniture in the lobby and solarium were beautiful. There was even a grand piano in the parlour. Room was comfortable and clean and king bed was very comfortable
