The staff, Elba. E.J, Ishana and Malaisami, were extremely friendly and helpful and always had a smile . Nothing was too much trouble, they were delightful . They organised all our sightseeing trips, including ensuring we had enough water. The breakfasts were great, plenty of western and Indian choices. The restaurant dinner meals were all very good and good value. The old building was stunning. We would stay again as the staff were so personable.

The rooms seem to be a bit dark, not a lot of lighting. Kept the shutters closed during the day to keep the heat out

Centrally located, Maison Perumal is a lovely hotel, staffed by people who really know to look after their guests. One felt totally at home. The food served in the restaurant was good and the breakfast excellent. Overall a good stay.

Room 10 on the 2nd floor has a very high bed and requires a foot stool to get on to it. Can be a problem for a senior citizen to get on and get off to visit the bathroom, especially at night. Also, there is no room for the bedside tables on either side to be placed beside the bed. They have to be placed behind the headboard and as such difficult to reach while lying down.

I have to review Maison Perumal for the wonderful experience we had, we stayed 6 nights. It is a haven in the old Tamil quarter, but easily to walk to the beachfront and White town. Food is lovingly prepared. Great Bfast, juices, eggs, dosas, idlis, pastries and fruit, and great coffee. The building is 150yrs old and has been beautifully restored, plants surround you, everything is made with wood and local materials, and my first time staying in a hotel where there is no plastic. The bed and room was beautiful, everything so clean. The staff are so friendly and professional we did not want for anything. Thank you Barti, Jayson,Elby, Sami Sunil and all the staff.

On a small, unassuming street in the Heritage Town of Puducherry, the car stopped at what seemed to be a family home. A closer look and I saw two gorgeous, smooth, satin pillars, the red oxide of shiny floors that extended onto the 'thinnai' (outdoor seating area). This was Maison Perumal! We were welcomed into this traditional Chettiar home, with two beautiful courtyards, expansive rooms, stained glass on the walkways, a terrace area and lush greenery everywhere! Our two night stay was extremely comfortable, the food was deliciously authentic, the attention, service and hospitality, excellent. Special mention needs to be made - Elby, the manager/'go-to' for any questions /help, and Jayaprakash, who served us with a smile, all the time! Maison Perumal was a haven of serenity and calm from the hustle and bustle of the streets of Pondicherry. Five Stars to Maison Perumal. Lunch at the sister hotel Maison De Palais was disappointing to say the least, and avoidable. Our two night break in Pondicherry was memorable!

Pretty expensive....

A heritage home that's become a hotel has its charm and this one has preserved the central elements of the home that gives it a charm that unparalled. The mitham area of the original house is home to the restaurant where breakfast and other meals are served. The timings for breakfast were perfect even if you choose to do a morning walk and get back for a bite. We had breakfast every morning and dinner on a couple of nights at the hotel and the fare was excellent and the variety just right. A few south indian options or a mix of western staples such as croissants/ toast/ muesli were available every day for breakfast. Coffee/ tea/ fresh juice and/ or a classic and generous fresh fruit bowl were accompaniments to the sumptuous main spread. The hot breakfast options were made to order and were delicious. The daily availability of the ginger-lemon juice was just the cherry on top. The dinner options were simple and delicious and the staff were super kind to customise the portions to minimise wastage and also suit your palette. The hotel itself is a oasis of green and its simply lovely to just hang there. The rooms are comfortable and the amenities plentiful. The service is exemplary and the staff have a personal touch to everything they do. My review won't be complete without mentioning some of the staff we regularly interacted with - Elbi, Jason, Bharathi, Malaichamy and all the others with whom we didn't personally interact - Thank you for making our stay so comfortable. They went above and beyond in ensuring we had all the details we wanted on local sights and sounds.

Honestly, I can't think of anything that i missed. The staff would gladly accommodated an odd request if I had one.

I can't rate Maison Perumal highly enough! The building is beautiful, and our room was wonderful, large, very comfortable, with black-out curtains, and facing into a quiet courtyard filled with plants. All of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and helped us to organise activities and trips. We participated in a cooking demonstration which was fantastic - and breakfast and dinner in the restaurant were delicious. Thank you!

If you come to Pondicherry, you must stay at Maison Perumal. Having traveled the world extensively for both holidays and work, I’ve experienced countless hotels and boutique places, but this one truly stands out. The staff’s dedication and genuine concern for their guests was nothing short of astounding. The food and cuisine were absolutely exceptional, offering a taste of local flavors that I won’t soon forget. We loved our stay at Maison Perumal and we look forward to visiting again soon.

It was perfect

Very good all round, excellent speciality coffee served in a unique way and good breakfast choice with nice bread. We ate at the open air restaurant which was also very nice. We were also lucky enough to be in Pondicherry for the harvest festival and the hotel got us involved in making the special sweet rice that is made. There were welcome tasty cookies in the room which was a nice touch which were replaced😊.

Nothing that we didn’t like. Although there’s not a pool you can use the sister hotels pool where you are also made to feel very welcome. The hotel is about a 15 minute walk from the white town although taxis and tuk tuks are plentiful! There are a few more places to eat there. The hotel is actually in a much more peaceful part of town. The staff are amazing in both hotels which is what makes this special.

Had the best time at Maison Perumal. I immediatly felt at home. The old house has a lot of charm, amd the patios feel very relaxing, with breeze coming through. The food is excellent. The room was very large and everything was perfect, well arranged and extra clean. Finally, the location is great as you step out in the Tamil town with temple events at the end of the street.

This was an amazing property and even in 35-40 degrees, we were quite comfortable. The rooms were stunning, staff friendly and the breakfast options were great. We had to room switch a bit due to faulty AC and running water stopped for an hour - but everything was handled extremely well by the staff. They were responsive and very accomodating. Huge thank you!

The location is a bit of walk (`15 min) from the french quarters and beaches. This would be a pleasant walk in winters but not in the summer time. Just in case you are planning in summers
