This historic manor home dating to just post-Civil War, is owned and operated by the same family that built it. They were friendly, engaging, accommodating, and informative, with stories about the manor, the area, and its rich history. Our room was HUGE, clean, warm, quiet, and comfortable and a terrific value. It is located just a few miles from I-81 but far enough away from busy streets to feel like you are in the country. I highly recommend it for an overnight stay or lengthy visit as there are many attractions and things to do in the area.

Beautiful classic home in a gorgeous countryside location; remote but within easy access from I-81. Friendly and accommodating staff. Good breakfast with gluten-free options. Comfortable room and bed. We booked it for an overnight during our travels between Chattanooga and the Washington metro area on the recommendation of a friend, and we hope to return for a longer stay. Recognizing that we stayed during the slower, winter season, we were still very impressed by the value for our accommodation compared to chain motels.

Because the house has a long history and is of a classic Southern style, it might not be everyone's cup of tea. Some aspects may not be appreciated by every visitor. Hardwood floors and stairs are beautiful, but they can be creaky and may be disturbing to some guests. For us, these authentic features added to its charm.

This was so much fun! Formerly a grand manor house, this is now a lovely B&B owned by the grandson of the original owners. Our room was the original master, so it was big and bright and on the ground floor with a king bed. We were asked what we wanted for breakfast the night before and it was cooked up fresh in the morning along with cinnamon rolls, fruit and fresh coffee. There was also coffee, tea and water always available. It was so refreshing to stay somewhere other than the standard, just-off-the-highway hotels on this road trip.

Because this wasn't built as a hotel, the noises of other people entering and leaving the house were apparent.

It doesn’t get any better than this! The property has been in the family for generations and is lovingly cared for by the current owner (great great grandson of the original owner. The rooms are beautiful. The dining room was elegant, yet the whole experience was not stuffy, but rather very welcoming. I wish my travel plans had allowed me to stay longer.

I was enchanted by everything! I’m so thrilled Rockwood is only 2 hrs from home, so I won’t have to question twice the next trip. Amazing, simply amazing!!

Nothing within their control...if they could, they would have, but ya just can’t order weather conditions at New Year’s in Dixie!

The beauty of the manor, the history it told you, the amazingly well preserved home in a wonderful setting, the innkeepers and staff who made you feel so welcome as it was your home. We so enjoyed our stay just wishing it was longer so we could enjoy it more! please go a visit- you will not regret it❤️

Going to Rockwood has become more like going to spend the weekend with friends. The Property is absolutely beautiful, the grounds are wonderful and the staff is exceptional. When we arrived we were greeted with"Welccme Back". We LOVE it. Thanks Frank and Rochelle

Everything, the room was out of this world. We have stayed in three different rooms and they are all the best you can ask for. Breakfast is always wonderful, they switch it up now and then, but if you have a request, just ask, you may get it.

I can't comment on the breakfast, which is NOT the Rockwood's fault. I absolutely had to leave over 90 minutes before breakfast was going to be available. But given how nice everything else was, I have to assume it would have been good, too - and the breakfast room looked quite enticing. A big plus was walking the grounds. Lots of beautiful old trees, and a generally quiet environment, with the public highway hundreds of yards away.

It's my fault, but if only (famous words!) breakfast could have been 90 minutes sooner OR (unavoidable this time, but maybe not next time) if only I could have started my trip west at 10 instead of 7.30.

Many B&Bs don't have bathrooms connecting to the bedroom. This one did. Not all rooms in the B&B were that way, but we were given an upgrade.

Everything was great. Maybe breakfast could have been a bit warmer, but it was satisfactory.

Excellent hosts and food. Breakfast was very good! The room was beautiful as well as the estate. Location was very good and we were able to visit several things close by. Check-in and Check-out times were great too. Would have liked more choices in TV channels, but we didn't plan on watching lots of TV so we managed.

The heat didn't work at first or the remote wasn't cooperating -- but then we got it working. Maybe some directions there as we were guessing on how to make it warmer. (For example, flame alone didn't make heat). We've been to B&B's where there was an evening snack -- that would have been nice. Shower did get nice and hot -- too hot actually -- so we figured out that we had to turn it down VERY GENTLY or else it went to the other extreme and got too cold -- hard to find that sweet spot. Not bad - just would have been good to know because I spent most of the shower trying to get it to stay stable.
