It is a very beautiful building. The lobby lives up to the hotel's name. It is very grand. It is spacious with a beautiful ceiling, and a wide stately staircase. The bars are beautiful in the same way. The bedroom was cozy and quiet. The bed had an extremely comfortable mattress and good quality sheets. The bathroom facilities were absolutely fine. The reception was polite and welcoming.

Nothing really. But we arrived late and kept early. And we didn't eat or drink there.

Great decor, just loved the wood and all the framed pictures, it was a real treat to stay here, definitely a memorable experience. The room just above the street provided a nice view of Whanganui too.

The cleanliness of the bathroom was not the best, and unfortunately after we checked in we couldn't find a single staff member again including during check out, so we just left. Felt a bit abandoned, but it kind of added to the experience. There was a blackbird in the unmanned dining room. But maybe that should count as a plus.

Late decision and booked despite some really quite critical reviews. Good price, check in was great and the room was in the newer part of the hotel. It was clean, tidy and comfortable. Heaters were provided, but it was warm enough after the cold snap. Bar area was quiet and we could take drinks to the lounge area near reception where there was more comfortable seating. Don't let the odd bad review put you off!

Back in the day, this would have been a really 'Grand Hotel', but now it is just faded glory. As such it is tired and looking a bit tatty - it could do with a thorough refurbishment, which in all probability won't happen, which is a shame. It would have really helped if the lift had not been out of order!

Very nice friendly people 👌 I was on crutches and they helped me take my luggage 🧳 to my room. Lovely view of Durie Hill from my window. Excellent fire escape. Clean comfy bed. I will return..

Nothing much to complain about.. Maybe a little more vacuuming around the lift and hallways , to give a better impression

The facilities accommodated to all our needs. The concierge and bartender attended to all we asked. I really liked the dinning area, it was spacious and comfortable we could play our own music, a great place to hold a last minute birthday bash. We were all happy with the food service. The chef did a great job. Our young ones had a lot of energy walking up and down the stairs, soaking up some of the history on the wall’s asking questions.

The room was awesome. Much better than the last time, lots of natural light aswell so it made the room super warm. Room was lovely I even had a bath. Which was great

The rail in the bathroom was not fixed in so that fell, mmmm the shower wouldnt stay up so i had to keep adjusting it and the temperature thing kept moving and the plug didnt fit the bath so had to keep filling it up. But besides that it was a really good room. Thank you for having me

Bed light not working, poor lighting in general, No sink plug for handbasin (To have a wash or a shave------waste of water) No clock The electronic key card not working on the Room door. had to climb two flights of stairs to the room. Not good for old knees. Couldn't locate the lift on the ground floor/ reception area??

Exceptional location to stay when attending events in the CBD, and exceptional value. Historically significant building, retaining many of its original features. Keep your expectations in check, this is not claiming to be 5 star accommodation, it is however a fantastic place to store your belongings and get a few hours sleep after a night out.

Clean large room, excellent shower, good carpet, brilliant location with carpark. Helpful staff. Great price for a 3 star venue.

Patchy wifi in room but overall adequate. Very limited tv channels, only one had audio. Raggedly cut off net curtain on one window. Decor is very dated, but this didn't affect our stay.

I choose to eat out at cafes nearby, im staying again on thursday so will try the breakfast if its on again. I might try the irish bar for food but last week when i stayed they were short staff a lady was waiting while i was being booked in. I like the fact you can get a jug of water with ice. I always book to get the free upgraded room from my genesis membership.

There was someone above my first floor banging like a pipe went on up to 6pm? Not sure if it was a guest or a tradie. I recommend mischief and redeye cafe very close by.
