This marked our second visit to Zanzibar and our second stay at Mahali – our first was over seven years ago when the property had newly opened. While Paje has changed quite a bit in the years since our first stay, Mahali Zanzibar still remains a serene retreat for its guests. It has been very well maintained and the hotel staff were still as warm as we could remember. What has definitely changed is the food offering as the onsite restaurant now offers a lot more and super delicious food. Everything comes together beautifully at the property and it's definitely a must-visit! The property is quite accommodating and is happy to allow you to enjoy the facilities for free even after you check out. However, the shower room that is offered for late-checkout guests could really use renovation as it dampens the standard you've come to expect with the rest of the facilities quite top-class.

I wish there was a 'no smoking on the premises' policy as some of our fellow guests freely smoked while walking around the property and its facilities, making it quite uncomfortable for people like us who don't smoke and dislike the smell!

A pleasant hotel due to its location, the cleanliness of the rooms , comfortable beds, good functionality of the AC due to the existence of a generator. Breakfast is simple, fresh, but not so varied, and can be a little boring if you’re stay is longer than 7 days; I liked the french toast and granola with nuts and soya milk; I would have liked that the fruit plate at breakfast to be more varied, respectively, I had a slice of mango in a single day from the all 4 days of my staying , in rest, always, pineapple, watermelon and banana; I would also have liked to have avocado toast as a breakfast option besides eggs and sausages

If you are accommodating in the building located near the Oxygen Restaurant it can be an inconvenience due to the loud music during their parties on Wednesdays (which lasts until midnight or 3 a.m. in the morning, depending on how “lucky” you are) Compared to other locations in the area the customer service can be improved taking into consideration the fact that for the first time in several years on the island we ran into employees with a defiant character, totally uncharacteristic for Zanzibar.

Our stay at Mahali Hotel was absolutely perfect in every way! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warm smiles and outstanding hospitality. The location is breathtaking, right on the beach, with beautiful views and a relaxed atmosphere. A special shout-out to Neema from reception, who was incredibly kind and helpful throughout our stay. She made sure everything was smooth and went above and beyond to ensure we had a fantastic experience. Also, we can’t forget to mention Jerry from the bar—what a star! His cocktails were amazing, and he always served them with a big smile. We truly loved them both and appreciated their efforts in making our trip so memorable. The rooms were spotless, the food was delicious, and the pool area was the perfect spot to unwind after a day of exploring. We can’t wait to come back to this paradise! Mahali have the most nice and welcome staff ever... anywhere you go inside of the property they are so nice and friendly. Breakfast were excellent, with different options and an incredible view, the food in the restaurant near to the beach is great, with many different options and as well the bar, drinks, juices and smoothies were excellent. The location is amazing, the beach itself for us was the best in the island, with different things to do. The room was very nice, spacious, nice bathroom, balcony with amazing view, even if you stay in the last one in the property. So, was the best choice!

The location, rooms, other facilities, restaurant, staff.. everything was very good! We also liked low tides, because you can walk on the ocean floor looking for sea shelves, for example. The landscape is also just amazing, very different during low tides. Except of staying in the hotel, you can walk along the beach both ways to Bwejuu or Jambiani, which we did. And in our opinion Paje has the best beach with clean ocean floor and water. Also, it is not crowded like in Kendwa, for example, which we visited one day. Staff speaks different languages and is veeeeery helpful and friendly! They can help you to organise you an excursion, if you need it. Even a loud music from a neighbour hotel on Wednesday wasn't too loud. If you use ear plugs, you can easily fall asleep. :) We'd stay in the resort again!

Mahali Hotel is The Paradise! The rooms are nice, carefully prepared and clean. The same can be said about the bathroom. The internet is fast and stable, of course if someone wants to use the internet in this wonderful place... The employees at the hotel are extremely kind, helpful and friendly, I send my greetings to this fantastic team!!!! The pool is cleaned every day, sometimes several times a day, and it's also great for swimming! The oceanfront is also perfect, with a beautiful view. The food and drinks at the bar are amazingly delicious! Live music every Saturday by the fantastic Wakushi Band! A must for everyone!!!! At breakfast, a delicious, fresh fruit plate, homemade jam and homemade fruit juice will be served! Amazing flavors and freshness, and the lady owner walks around during breakfast! She talks a little with everyone, she helped us a lot with her kind instructions! Here, everyone really works to ensure that the guest has the vacation of a lifetime! We were heartbroken when the vacation ended, we must to say goodbye to our Mahali friends, but we will definitely be back as soon as we have the chance!!! The sister hotel, the Zula Hotel, is a minute's walk from the beach, we visited their restaurant on the recommendation of the Mahali owner, the Wakushi Band performs there on Mondays. Zula is really Mahali's sister, wonderful people work, the food is fantastic here too! We will never forget my friend Benson's cocktails and his kindness, we made eternal friends!

Everything! Mahali truly is a hidden gem in the heart of Paje. Its location couldn’t be more perfect which its right on the beach and within walking distance of the area’s best spots. But what truly makes Mahali stand out is its people. From the warm smiles at reception to the friendly bartenders, attentive waitresses, helpful pool staff, and the ever-watchful security team, every single person made us feel like we were coming home, not just checking in. Our room was just steps from the beach, and waking up each morning to the view of the beach was a bonus. The room itself was spacious, stylish, and well-equipped for a comfortable stay. The bathroom is large, and while it could use a bit of an upgrade, it didn’t take away from our overall experience. The sunbathing and bar area is a highlight. There’s always plenty of space to relax without feeling crowded, and the loungers are cleverly positioned to offer a peaceful escape from beach vendors. The staff have everything set up beautifully each morning. The bar offers a great selection of food and drinks at fantastic prices, and the vibe is always lively with great music playing throughout the day. Evening entertainment is a lovely bonus and adds to the laid-back, welcoming atmosphere. As for the location, you’re spoiled for choice with fantastic beachside restaurants and bars just a short stroll away. I wholeheartedly recommend Mahali – it's unbeatable value for money and offers something truly special. But above all, it’s the amazing team who make this place unforgettable.

The staff at Mahali were the epitome of friendliness and professionalism. Their genuine smiles and eagerness to assist created an atmosphere of warmth and comfort. Best destination in Zanzibar. This was our second stay at this hotel in after three years and we were so impressed with the consistent standard in the quality of their premises and services. The staff are so friendly, the owners are so generous, everyone is so kind, and, it is definitely greatvalue for money. The hotel by itself is beautiful, beautifully located in front of a beach that is so gorgeous. Breakfast is phenomenal, with a large variety of food and drink that you can choose from. They bring you juice and fruits, complementary, and snacks that are complementary throughout the day at any given time. They were so nice to give us an early check-in, because we arrived early, the room is tastefully decorated with a beautiful minimalistic design yet well equipped and comfortable. The shower and bathroom was amazing with hot water at all times. The bed and pillows were very comfortable and the AC worked really well. Our room has a beautiful balcony where we sat and chilled with a beautiful view of the ocean from every room. This hotel is a paradise for introverts, because they have given so much thought into providing so many chill spots for their guests. There are multiple places to sit and relax, from the reception room, where there is games to play in couches to sit on, and beach beds by the pool, beach, beds by the beach, and sofas at the beach bar, which are all very comfortable, and also separated from each other so you feel like you are in your own private Cove. we also loved that they are enough beach beds in one did not have to fight or competes for beach beds Like in other hotels in Zanzibar. We have been to several hotels in Zanzibar, but Mahali Zanzibar is the only place where we feel like we have a home away from home, because of how they treat us and how comfortable we feel there. Here they show that they truly care for you, they are very generous, and we will definitely come back here again.

Care and attention to detail, great reasonably priced food, perfect beachside location and great staff - nothing too much for them! Great attention to detail - clearly hotel run by people who know what travellers want. Loved that you could refill water bottles and you got a welcome coconut - easy and cheap to do but so many establishments don't do this, there is a "help yourself" tea and coffee available through out the day, with homemade biscuits. Also, great homemade elements to the breakfast - homemade granola, toast and jam. Rooms clean, simply furnished but just what you need. Lovely shower wash. Good communication prior to arrival and hotel staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. We visited in the rainy season, so slightly more quiet spot than it would be normally, but this suited us perfectly. Great beach bar and restaurant vibes with reasonably priced food (especially when you check out the prices at other establishments along the beach front). I will definitely be back!
