Our stay at Dantica Cloud Forest Lodge was unforgettable. The manager kindly gave us a free upgrade to a Junior Suite, and what a gift that was! The suite felt magical—large windows in both the living room and bedroom opened directly onto the lush jungle, where we could watch colorful birds flying and resting just outside. The lodge is set inside a beautifully maintained private park with trails that begin right at your doorstep. Walking through the forest, surrounded by nature and silence, was an experience in itself. The breakfast room offers breathtaking panoramic views, and the food was both delicious and refined. The entire property blends elegance with tasteful ethnic design—sophisticated and warm at the same time. This is not just a hotel—it’s a peaceful, immersive nature escape. Highly recommended!

It was a great experience.

Our expectations were quite high, and the reality was even better! The lodge is perfectly located and spread in the middle of cloud forest. You get your private villa, each has its own privacy and fabulous views through the ceiling-to-floor windows. Yes, it is a bit of walk from the reception area, but that is the main magic there - the seclusion and privacy. I read here lots of negative reviews about the black bathrooms. I don’t understand why it is issue for you? And off course you are in the middle of a cloud forest where the humidity reaches 100%. I am sure that the staff is doing their best, but sometimes a bit of mould can appear (we did not notice it, but again it was mentioned in a review before). All facilities in the bathroom worked perfectly including hot water, so we had no problems. We very much appreciated that this resort is doing maximum to be eco friendly. They have their own special concept. You should take it as a Eco-lodge rather than classic resort. They also provide really great conditioner which helped a lot with my sun-damaged hair :-) Breakfast is a la carte and is very tasty. One morning we even ordered 1 extra portion and resort did not charge us for it. The onsite restaurant is opened for lunch and dinner (we didn’t try it). Within few minutes walk from the resort, there are 2 local restaurants + minimarket. Miriam’s restaurant is a must! We booked both arrival and departure transfers via Dantica and both worked perfectly. Driver was ontime and journey was smooth. We also booked the Quetzal tour via Dantica and it was well organized (for us, it was a bit of mass tourism, around 30 people chasing 4 quetzal birds, but we would never see these beautiful birds without the guide, so it was worth it). Every member of the staff were very nice to us and helpful, it was a real pleasure to stay there. It is one of a kind experience. Don’t hesitate to book this wonderful place.

The woodland setting is superb. The hotel consists of a number of small bungalows spread out within the woods. Each bungalow has full floor to ceiling windows looking out over the steep woodland valley. Our bungalow was very new with underfloor heating, a rolltop jacuzzi bath and a rain shower. The toilet was separate. There was good wardrobe space as well as a fridge and kettle. You are free to walk in the steep woodland grounds of the hotel. These lead down to the river which is approximately 200m below the bungalows. There are some bird feeders outside the restaurant which also as full floor to ceiling windows all round. The breakfast was very good. We did both the quetzal tour and the long (4 hour) bird watching tour. There were 14 of us with one guide on the quetzal tour and hundreds of others with their guides trying to see the same quetzal. The next day on the bird watching tour there was just the 2 of us with the guide and we saw 35 birds including the quetzal. If you only have time for one tour go on the bird watching tour.

There wasn't ever anyone around in reception. We had to ring a bell and then wait for someone to come. The service in the restaurant is extremely slow. We waited one hour for our food to arrive having booked for 6pm and our food arrived at 7. Not all the rooms are as nice as the ones we had initially. We stayed on an extra night and had to move rooms. The second room was old and tired and was a bit disappointing.

The lodge is very beautiful and owns a private forest. Bungalows are in different places of the forest and very quiet. The lodge organizes many different guided tours to explore and observe the birds in the vicinity and the surrounding. The breakfast is correct and delicious. Elisa was the only friendly staff I met there. She even organized a taxi to go to another region.

It’s pity that many staff were not friendly (no smiles, no conversation). Breakfast was served with just one coffee and no offer for a second one.

The hotel was more than we expected. We were in awe of the scenery. Magistic views that connect your inner with the world. We were a family group of 10. Out of the three rooms we rented, the best was the #14 with an amazing deck and lovely mountain sight (and a great bathroom). The staff was really nice and helpful. Driving through the Panamerican Highway and going down San Gerardo de Dota is one of the best trips you can take in Costa Rica. But overall, Rio Saavegre is a true star. It's a must.

The food wasn't that good at breakfast time. Room 3 was hot and AC wasn't working properly. Missed AC in our sleeping areas in room 11 Also, a bit more light in the trails during the night around outside decks would've been great but beyond this, we can't complain at all.

The place is perfect for disconnecting from everything, and the food was amazing! It was our first time in San Gerardo, and we couldn’t have wished for a better place to stay!

The only thing we would have liked is for the doors to be able to close completely from the inside, and not just from one side of the door”

Beautiful view from our windows, you can’t beat waking up to that! A very peaceful setting, good for relaxing and getting away from it all. There was great food in the restaurant. There were nice trails around the hotel to explore. Staff were really helpful and kind all the time. The hotel is in a great location to spot many beautiful birds. We had some amazing food and coffee in the village of San Gerardo de Dota also. It got chilly in the evenings and we enjoyed using the ethanol fire to make our room nice and cosy!

Beautiful location in the cloudforest of Costa Rica; there was a beautiful view onto the mountain landscape from the room Very good restaurant with a fantastic view The hotel provided us with ethanol which we could use to light the room which was a very nice touch The hotel set us up with an extremely skilled birdwatching guide (I would recommend asking for Carlos) Wonderful hotel grounds with well amrked hiking trails

The room was not very well insulated and it felt very cold during the night. At the same time, the blanket was too thick & too hot

We stayed at the “Superior Bungalow 2 person Forest”, view is amazing, the balcony is perfect to sit down and chill. It’s a nice walk from the reception, nothing too complicated and has a bit of lighting to make it better at night.

Bathroom and bathtub could’ve been cleaner. They both had a bit of dirt and hairs which is not nice to look at. Pillow cases also smelled a bit funky. Nothing that can’t be fixed by chatting with reception! They provide excellent service

Location of Dantica in the beautiful valley is very good. Our room was private with a beautifel view and surrounded by nature. We had dinner at the onsite resaurant which was very good.

The walk (distance and steepness) from room to the reception area was good work out.
