First of all: Nicest host you could imagine, with excellent recommendations who really goes out of her way to make you feel at home and enjoy your stay! Great attention without being pushy. All the other staff members were lovely too! The hotel is a calm oasis in the middle of nature, but just far away from the loud and bustling town to get everywhere easily by foot, bicycle or tuktuk. The rooms are spotless and spacious, the attached kitchens are equipped with everything you could wish for, the AC works perfectly fine and the pool area is well maintained. The rooms have cosy balconies/verandas that give you privacy and everywhere there's lots of small stylish details showing the big love that is put in that place. I stayed 1 week with my wife and 3 kids in a double room with an extra bed, which was more than spacious enough, also because of the huge common area and outside kitchen just in front of the two rooms where we all could come together to cook, eat or hang out. After I brought my family to the airport I came back for another week 😂

Everything was outstanding!

We (family 2 adults and 2 kids) loved it. We could easily stayed a full week at the lodge and be comfortable. The host was super friendly and helpful with our wet laundry after a couple of soaking days in Tortuguero. We had the double room with outside kitchen which was super nice to cook and eat outside. Recently, they completely redid the garden with new plants which gives a jungle effect and silences any noises from neighbors (ok, 10 people having a great time at the swimming pool was even too much for this garden 😋). The new plants also gave more privacy (feedback of some other reviewers). I could easily go to the bathroom in my underwear without being seen.

Cannot name one negative thing.

Very large 'apartment' with open air living and kitchen space. Two (not connected) individual sleeping rooms and a nicely sized bathroom (only accessible from the open air part). Host super kind and helpful obviously taking excellent care of the property (everything spotless, kitchen and kitchenware in excellent state). The pool area very nice and again spotless.

The bedrooms rather 'puristic' and cold not because of temperature but because of missing furniture or a picture. Probably subjective but we'd have preferred a window with mosquito net instead of only having the A/C option. Also having to access the bathroom via 'public' space wasn't our highlight. Location basically requiring a car since a bit dark to get there and a tiny bit too long to walk from the village - appeared to be closer on map and we couldn't find a walkable shortcut.

This resort is amazing, it's a hidden oasis. The pool area is great to chill out in, most days we had the pool to ourselves. The rooms are spotlessly clean and has everything you need. The cooking facilities in the room are great, good way to save money! The beds are really comfy and big. The staff are so friendly and can't do enough for you, anything you need they are happy to help with. I would definitely stay here again if I come back to Costa rica. it takes just under 15 minutes to walk into town, its a nice walk and you see wildlife.

there was not a single thing we can complain about.

A perfect ending to a three week journey in Costa Rica. We slept at so many different places west side, south side, mountain area that was told to be beautiful like paradise, but most of them were noisy, lacking hot water, many ants, swimming pool not clean enough, neighbours too close, walls too thin, etc.etc... But this place is really the IT place. Spacious, totally silent, zero sound of running cars, neighbouring houses far away, so no sound of neighbours talking, beautifully clean swimming pool, no smell of mold, hot water, working mosquito nets, super clean apartment, comfy bed, amazingly equipped kitchen, sharp knives. Finally a place to rest, enjoy and sleep peacefully without earplugs and the windows wide open. This is really a 10/10 and whoever says otherwise really cannot be satisfied with anything in my view!

Found nothing that was not perfect.

The property was exactly as described, it was immaculately clean, had all the facilities we needed. The pool was lovely and well maintained. The owner was so helpful and friendly, she made us feel at home. She gave amazing advice on the area and helped us plan our days. The cleaning staff were very attentive and made sure the room was cleaned every day. The property is very safe, is secure at night and walking distance to the main town with restaurants. Our car was parked outside the property with no problems. Highly recommend this for stays in Puerto Viejo.

La Tica y La Gata was a lovely hotel- the room was big, clean and comfortable and the attached kitchen was well stocked with everything you’d need to cook a simple meal. Stella, the owner, had plenty of recommendations and was super accommodating with storing our luggage after we’d checked out. We’d definitely stay here again!

It’s a bit of walk into town- about 20 minutes. We didn’t mind it at all as it meant it was a peaceful stay away from the bustle of Puerto Viejo, but it might not suit everyone.

2 bedrooms with a really cool outside area with sofas and a kitchen exclusive for you. A perfect spot to cook some food and chill for a while in the morning before you go out. Nice and comfortable bed as well. The staff is amazing and very friendly.

To get to the bathroom you need to leave your room and walk through the outside area. Which is very visible from the outside. So you can't wake up and just go take a shower, you have to dress up first which is not exactly convenient. But it wasn't a deal breaker.

Everything was very good. Fully equipped kitchen, warm water in the shower, good AC, fine room service, nice owner, good parking area. It is a quiet place with nice garden, spacious bungalows and pool. Without a car it is about 20 minutes walk to village and seaside. To cocles beach is about 2 km distance.

The road from the paved mainroad to the hotel is unpaved and very bumpy - about 1 km.

Visited Puerto Viejo, choosing La Tica y Gata as our base. Even before we arrived, we were contacted by Browi, welcoming us in advance and providing documentation by WhatsApp. When we arrived, Browi greeted us and showed us to our apartment, explaining things as we walked. We had a short stay here, and the setting was perfect. The room and facilities are spacious, and the bed was extremely comfortable. The hosts. Stella and Browi live on site and are available for advice and local knowledge as necessary. Even to the point that Browi provided us with information and links to other places of interest in Costa Rica. This is a gem of a place in Puerto Viejo and thoroughly recommended if you are planning to visit here.
