Clean and easy access

Can be loud at night with the guests arriving. The rooms are not sound proof at all

Hostal Elkano is budget friendly for tourists. My kids and I traveled to Schengen states. Barcelona is so far the cleanest compared to Rome and Athens. Their metro, funicular and bus are efficient and cleaned daily. The nearest train station to this accommodation is Pueblo Sec. It is 45 minutes away from the airport by metro. It has a community park with playground. 3 supermarkets (including Dia) and a Filipino restaurant within 3 minutes walk. The hostal offer the basic coffee, milk, tea and water. They have shared toilets and shower that are outside the rooms. Currently, when we visit their is a construction infront of the hostal. The owner and housekeepers are so nice and warm.

The room was very clean and it even had air conditioning (rather noisy, but still wonderful as the weather was quite hot). Good beds. Location was excellent with a short metro ride to many of the major sights, some were at walking distance too. Lots of grocery shops and restaurants nearby and wonderful ice cream just next door. Direct bus line to the beach. Little common kitchen corner for the guests with a fridge, a kettle and an interesting little terrace.

We chose the hotel as it was close to the Palau Sant Jordi where we would be attending a concert. It was ideal as it allowed us to walk to and from the event in 20 minutes. The hotel was also quite a lot cheaper than other hotels nearby and we knew we would not be in the room for much time. The room was quite small with just a double bed and a rack to put your case on. However the bed was comfortable. The shower was hot, powerful and did not leak which are my main criteria. There was no hairdryer but you just had to ask at reception which was no problem. We were able to leave our luggage in a locked room after checkout as we had a few hours before departing to the airport. The room was spotlessly clean. The Metro was 2 minutes away and we could walk to La Rambla in 20 minutes. This was a fantastic, value for money hotel and would stay there again when in Barcelona. Also, Carrer de Blai was 5 minutes walk away which has lots of excellent pintxos bars.

A hairdryer in the room would have been nice but not essential. There was no desk or dressing table so unable to do work on my laptop which would have been good. However we knew facilities would be quite basic because the price was low so this is not a complaint.

A convenient inexpensive hotel on the way into the city from the airport, within walking distance of the museums on Montjuic, the port and the Ramblas. Good for a short stay.

Nose from other rooms and flats at night as the insulation is thin. Windows look out onto small airless internal courtyard.

Top location, very friendly staff, pleasantly surprised by the comfortable bed and pillows. Well organised room with everything you need. Clean! The bathrooms although shared were very clean and well desinfected.

There was almost no light in the room, but this was expected taking into account the class of the hotel.

The staff are really helpful and friendly.

The place has a certain smell (like an “old house smell”) and it gets to be so noisy even late in the evening. So, if you’re a light sleeper, you will find this disturbing.

The location was perfect, for us. A little communal district with great restaurants and atmosphere, a great gelato shop next door, walking to the cable car, skate park, Para-lel etc. Ramblas was also walkable. We walked everywhere but some might find the distance from the further areas too much. Public transport is possible though. The facilities were perfect. A small communal area with tea and coffee (kettle) and a fridge (although some unscrupulous guests took our drinks and some food). Shared shower and toilet were clean and easily accessible from the room. The room was clean and serviced daily. Everything where we had left it, without needing to use the safe. The street noise was a little loud but we got used to it and slept well. The beds were so comfortable. Sink and toiletries in the room with a rack for wet towels and hooks for coats. Clean towels provided which we didn't expect. All in all we loved our stay and will return. We were also welcome to leave our luggage in the luggage room for the day on departure. On arrival however the hostal calculated our tourist tax as €20+ more than Booking.com had on our booking. They graciously agreed to charge the lower rate given by Booking.com but this should be looked at to ensure guests are aware of any charges before arrival and that Booking.com are giving the correct rate to guests on their booking.

Everything was fine. It was relatively quiet and comfortable. The shower was nice and hot! It was good to have a kettle and tea/coffee area, And we'll probably use the communal refrigerator and outdoor patio next time :)

There was no thermostat on the radiator and we were a bit too warm (even for December)

Great location, not even 5min walk to metro station. Cafes and restaurants nearby are much cheaper than in the center. Rooms and bathroooms were cleaned every day. Bedsheets and towels were also changed daily. AC was also working properly in the room. Beds were also comfortable. Overall its a good hostel for tourists who just want to have a place to sleep and shower.

They made us pay 90EUR at the reception even though booking confirmation said 63EUR. Walls are very thin and if there are some loud people in the other rooms you probably will need to tell them to be more quiet at night. Everything else at the hostel was very good.
