The hotel was very good and had wonderful atmosphere. Our check in went well and the staff were helpful. It should be noted that, like other Spanish hotels, they are very lightly staffed. When a large group or tour arrives, it is definitely stretched (but this is not often). We managed to be their for a procession at the attached church, where the people wound their way around the hill to get up. We also managed to be there for the Great Power Outage (where the whole country (and Portugal) went dark). The hotel had backup power that operated until the national grid was restored, but the staff went and got candles just in case (so we actually missed the opportunity for a romantic and historical experience - though elevators and room lights was likely better). All in all, one of our favorite Paradors. We found it was convenient, and pleasant, to get to town, but had to go down some steep stretches. Those who are mobility challenged would need to drive or get a taxi.

The Jacuzzi / hot tub was a bit cold (to the point of being near freezing). Not a big issue as we were only trying it out to be nosy since the pool was not yet open due to season. I am sure it would be much better during the summer.

Beautiful old historic building, with such attention to detail in the rooms and common areas. The room we got had a huge living room which we were told used to part of the old church. Breakfast fare was good, the bar was pleasant with reasonably priced wines and beers and they even serve casual meals in the bar. The dinner at the hotel restaurant was better than most hotel restaurants. We were able to park for free in the square by the hotel and didn’t have to use the parking garage for 10 euros a day.

When we arrived, we discovered there was a water outage in the village and this was not mentioned when we checked in. Not their fault it was out, but I think it should have been mentioned when we checked in. It had reportedly been out for about 4 hours when we checked in. However the staff delivered bottles of drinking water and a large jug of water to our room, and when the water came back on about 10:00 that evening, they called to let us know it was back on. They also did a free load of laundry service for me as I told them I was needing to do some hand wash laundry when I checked in. That was nice of them.

We booked a suite which was lovely and spacious and very clean. The Parador is a beautiful building with great views over Monforte. We have stayed several times and will definitely be returning. The food in the restaurant was excellent.

At breakfast in the morning there is an option to order hot food which we did. However, I like to have fruit and yoghurt before and the hot food comes almost immediately so when I came to eat my omelette it had gone cold.

Reception was lovely - other staff were less friendly and welcoming - maybe it's a northern spanish thing? The room was wonderful and the food good - it was an honour to stay in such a magnificent building - I wish the UK would replicate such a great example.

The waiting staff could have been a bit more friendly. We found them quite aloof. The reception staff however, were exemplary in their welcoming attitude.

The parador was well maintained, excellent staff and our room was exceptional. THere was a lot of history associated with the facility and we enjoyed learning about it.

The only issue we have is the limited food option for dining at the Parador's in general. There needs to be more options for plant-based meals. The vegan burger was not prepared well and was the only item on the menu that we could order.

Breakfast was notch Spanish hotel buffet style. Location impressive on top of the hill. Architecture impressive. Bar food very slow.

The room was located in a building attached to the parador and involved descending a number of stair cases. The fire doors were closed when we first approached the room. We had to hold them open with a rubbish bin. BEWARE ... The ramp/step entering the underground car park is very high for sports cars.

Everything. The castle is fantastic, the suite was very spacious and comfortable, the food was delicious and the breakfast buffet was plentiful. One of our best experiences during our stay was a server named Paula. She was such a hard worker, so helpful to us with the language barrier, giving us information on shopping and places to visit. We missed her for the rest of our trip!

The ONLY complaint was the split bed. It was comfortable but kept us from sleeping close together.

Beautiful surroundings, room very clean and comfortable. Very quiet. The dinning room could have done with some extra staff at breakfast service was very slow and food cold when it arrived if you ordered eggs. Staff were very friendly.

We could not access the pool area. We appreciated it was not open but would have like to have had a look.
