Hostería del Mar is, I suspect, the best hotel in Peñiscola. Maybe not the cheapest, nor the most expensive but true Spanish high quality hospitality. The building itself is well maintained, having been built in 1966, and has style you rarely see anymore. The decor and cleanliness was top quality, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room with small balcony and a view of the sea was spacious and very clean; the bed was firm and comfortable, with two pillows each. The breakfast was generous, including hot food (eggs, bacon, potato frittata). There was also traditional Spanish breakfast dish of bread/tostada, tomato and jamon, plus yoghurt, fruit, cereal, pastries etc. The hotel swimming pool looked inviting but it was a little too cool for us. The outdoor bar and garden area was relaxing and staff there were friendly and attentive too. Highly recommend this place!

We liked everything!

This is a lovely hotel right on the sea with a great outlook. It has very friendly reception staff and plenty of free and safe parking. The bar by the pool is good as is the main bar. Peniscola is an interesting town if a bit touristy in the old part. Isn't everywhere?

The only thing that lets this place down is the dining. The half board dinner was absolutely awful, much like school food from the old days. It's probably the standard fare offered to long term winter lets. The breakfast buffet is really no better, with luke warm greasy fried eggs and chewy bacon. Hard bread, stale pastries and so on which are no doubt wheeled out every day. A grouchy woman clatters about constantly clearing and laying up tables so any peace is out of the question.

It is a fabulous place to stay, if your old enough to remember when hotels were run by people who cared and not bean counters you will enjoy this hotel. If you’re not that old this hotel will be a revelation. Properly managed and run, spotlessly clean the restaurant service is perfection. If you are staying in Peniscola you would want to be close to the citadel and the beach this hotel is perfectly sited.

The location, was amazing, also the decoration was very nice. The parking for free pitch perfect. Located across the street from the sea. A return for sure.

The room where we stayed had some funny smell, located on the hotel entrance floor. The noise at 6:00 am was very annoying. We only stayed for 1 night, and maybe that's why they gave us that room. If it had been for longer, I want to believe that they would have assigned us a room somewhere in a quieter place. But, I will recommend it anyway.

The location is lovely and quiet, with private beach. You can rent parasol and sunbeds with 12.5 euros daily. The parking is large and you can choose a covered parking or not covered for free. The food was fresh, delicious and varied and the room was clean and spacious. I totally recommend this hotel for a relaxing holiday.

It was a beautiful hotel…lots of flowers, beautifully kept…nice pool area with seating area in the shade and an outdoor bar out there also. There was much attention to detail in the whole place. .kind of rustic and we loved it! Many restaurants within walking distance and the beach was right across the road.

The only thing I would say is…I wish we could have stayed longer…we did stay one more night than planned. The included breakfast buffet was excellent too. You can’t go wrong staying here!

Great choice! Not too far to walk into old part of town where most restaurants can be found, with good variety of menus and prices. Good view from our room. Pool hardly used when we were there with nice sunbeds and sun until late afternoon but pool water a bit cold for us! ( late September) And free covered parking easily accessible.

Amazing location. Really central for everything you’d want to do/see in Peniscola. Great fresh breakfast selection. Easy check in and lovely rooms.

The two single beds pushed together to make a double move very easily and left a large gap between them making it very easy fall between them if you rolled over in the night.

It was a typical Spanish property well cared for and clean. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Great food and parking on site.

Nothing

This hotel is excellent. It is spotlessly clean, and the staff wonderful. There is a beautiful beach a few steps away, and the town (with castle) is a ten minute walk away. The breakfast is continental, (plus eggs & bacon) and has a large choice of cereals, cold meats & cheese and cakes. something for everyone. The parking is on-site and free, and the grounds are taken care of with the same love as inside the hotel.

There is nothing to dislike!
