A real treat to stay in a former hunting lodge, actually a manor home. Our room was very clean and comfortable, the breakfast was perfectly adequate, and we enjoyed a drink in the bar the night before. With advance notice dinner can also be provided. Some of the decor is out of time and does not complement the history of the home, but this did not distract too much. There is nothing around the property in terms of shops or restaurants, but the location served our purpose as an overnight stop.

The midges were out but thankfully it was breezy so we opened a window. If not, the room would have been way too hot and stuffy as there were no window screens.

The location and communal rooms are stunning. The staff were really welcoming and professional. Dinner was very good. The room was clean and well styled. This place is charming and has an old fashioned opulence that we loved.

We had a spa bath with rainbow lighting which I was excited to try but unfortunately it was broken and the taps didn’t run. We had to fill the bath using the shower which took a while. The view from our bedroom window wasn’t great. With these two things improved, I’d be giving a 10 but when you pay a lot you want things to work.

Beautiful hotel with really grand entrance and dining areas. Staff were really helpful and friendly. Lovely location. We even saw a stag during dinner. Rooms are super immaculate and clean. The dinner was really good. Lovely setting and again super attentive staff. The breakfast was also really good. Lots of choice and delicious. Totally worth staying here especially if on the NC500. Really happy that we found this place. Will be revisiting again I’m sure!

There was a shower attached to bath but no where to hold the shower head.

If you are looking for a Highland hotel that fulfils all your visions of what a Victorian shooting lodge should look like, then this is it! Red sandstone baronial style building in fabulously wild countryside with red deer grazing in the garden while you are eating your dinner. An interior with its period features intact, wonderful entrance hall, original polished wooden grand staircase and all public areas festooned with stags' heads. Very pleasant helpful staff, comfortable immaculately decorated rooms and good bar and lounge areas. First class breakfast choice.

Food in the evening would have been OK as a meal at home but unimaginative for a hotel of this standard. Possibly not surprising in low season (as it was for my visit) but certainly over-priced at £37 for two courses.

The way one person checked us in, served us from the bar before and after dinner, waited on us at dinner and breakfast was exceptional especially as almost all tables had other people also to look after who appeared to have a similar level of service - he was so BRILLIANT - service with a smile. (So different from the 5 star hotel where we stayed the night before where at breakfast we had had to wait over 20 mins for coffee/ tea after placing our order and there were about 6 people around supposedly organising it all). Here service was IMPECCABLE and never had to wait - or even ask - just so efficient and thoughtful. And everything was kept so clean.

A lovely property with a sense of country house grandeur! Bedroom was quiet, luxuriously decorated and extremely comfortable. The manager, Craig, was very friendly, welcoming and incredibly efficient. He is an absolute star and a credit to the hotel!

Some of the modern ornaments appeared out of keeping with the beautiful original features of a Victorian property.

Nothing was too much trouble for Craig. He went out of his way to make our stay very comfortable. The food was amazing, and great choices. Our compliments to the chef. We would go out site seeing every day, and it felt like coming home in the evening. It was truly the highlight of our holiday.

We were given a very friendly welcome and the lodge was like staying in a stately home for a few days. Views from the windows were amazing and the bedrooms spacious and comfortable.

The dinner menu is rather limited and there is nothing else around, having said that the meal we had was delicious.

In a beautiful spot on our trip around the NC 500. Very comfortable and a lovely welcome. Wonderful food expertly cooked. Comfy bed and everything we needed in our room.

The only thing I’d suggest is that the double room we were in needed a mirror close to a socket for when using the hairdryer

What can I say!!! What an amazing setting and what an amazing property. The hotel was "wow" from the time we drove up the driveway. The hotel was really well appointed as we're the rooms. The restaurant served great food, and the breakfast was awesome. I would highly recommend this property. It's a little of the beaten track and we'll worth the drive.
