Ideal location for NC500. Beautiful views of Loch Maree from rear of hôtel. Good parking facilities. Gardens could do with a makeover as a bit untidy. Evening meal very well cooked and presented but breakfast disappointing. Decor of hôtel excellent & room was very comfortable.

The entire stay from the easy early check-in to the quick reservations for dinner facilitated by both Duncan and Sean. Two great staffers that made our stay even better. They’re clearly vested in the comfort and well being of their guest. Our room was large and very comfortable and had the most amazing views. Bed was great. Large wardrobe ensured our clothes n bags etc were put away. The restaurant is great. Breakfast lovely. It’s close to Victoria Falls, Gairloch Falls and Inverewe Gardens. We are already planning a return stay!!!

Honestly….There is nothing to dislike about this loch front hotel.

We stopped here during our NC500 trip and couldn’t have chosen better. The hotel itself has plenty of character and a warm, welcoming feel. The highlight has to be the incredible view over the loch – absolutely breathtaking, especially at sunset. The food was outstanding – both the evening meal and breakfast were beautifully prepared, delicious, and clearly made with care. After a long day on the road, it felt like a real treat. What made our stay extra special was the staff. They were so friendly, attentive, and genuinely eager to make sure everything was perfect for us. It’s rare to come across service that feels this personal and genuine. A truly memorable stopover – we’d happily stay again and recommend it to anyone travelling the NC500.

We booked this hotel before seeing any reviews and after reading them we were a bit concerned. But after being greeted by Duncan at reception, everything was lovely. There has been a change of staff, since the poor reviews and now Duncan and a whole new team are working hard to put things right. This is a lovely hotel in a fabulous position on the edge of the loch. Breakfasts and evening meals nice with a good selection. We had a lovely stay and intend to return.

A few minor issues needing improvement remain but the new staff are working hard to get everything perfect.

I really wasn’t sure what to expect having read all the polarising and often negative views of this hotel but I was really pleasantly surprised. The location and views are exceptional. We had the four poster room with a stunning view which you can enjoy from chairs overlooking the lake or the bed. We were able to have a nice drink on the tables and chairs outside in their garden too and then had dinner in the dining room which again overlooks the lake. I was worried about the food given reviews but we had a really tasty and filling burger for £16.50 which felt reasonable to me! Breakfast was a full Scottish breakfast which was really tasty and they had other options like eggs Benedict or florentine. No cereals but honestly you didn’t need it! Staff was all really friendly and service was quick. It is perhaps a little faded in places and you can see the building was at one time v grand but obviously must be costly to maintain given its location and age. But generally I thought it was well presented. So to me the price seemed very reasonable given its location. This is a remote place where accommodation IS expensive and very hard to come by so I just think people need to set expectations accordingly.

Idyllic place with a beautiful view on Loch Maree. The guy who welcomed us at the reception was friendly and explained the history of the hotel. He also offered to come to our room to turn the heater on because of the cold weather, which in the end we didn’t need. Dinner is served until 8pm and the food was good.

The furniture and bathroom in the room are dated. The person serving us at the restaurant was not very friendly and the breakfast buffet was empty in the morning, however we could order from a la carte menu and the two dishes that we ordered were tasty.

The hotel is situated right on the banks of Loch Maree, with the imposing highland mountains bordering the far end of the loch's waters. The area is remote, so it is a place where one would like to relax and get a taste of Scottish Highland life and hospitality. Staff were very welcoming and accommodating, and the food prepared by the new chef was excellent. I loved this place and will definitely visit again.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and have no complaints. The room and facilities were basic, but neither was I on the lookout for luxuries.

Nicolas on the desk when we arrived was Brillant. So accommodating of the dogs and made sure we were well looked after. The proximity of the loch was stunning and the food was decent. It’s a great place if you want to get back after a long day exploring and then not get back into the car for dinner and a pint be the side of a stunning Loch.

Yes the place could probably do with a touch up here and there but it’s an incredibly old building with a wonderful history so I am unsure how viable some of the “touch ups” other travels suggest could be made.

I stayed in the King bedroom, the same one that Queen Victoria stayed in on 12th September 1887 (notice the servant’s bell on the left hand side as you walk in). The bed was supremely comfy and the view from the room was stunning. I watched the sun set over Loch Maree whilst having a pint, it was bliss. The barman was great company too; top bloke. The breakfast was very tasty and the nearby Victoria Falls is a great place to visit in the evening.

The shower pressure was quite low but probably would’ve been better if I got the drench shower working.

Friendly staff Excellent food both for dinner and breakfast. Cooked breakfast was generous portions, and was the first time we were given haggis (we'd already stayed at 5 other hotels/ B&B's on our NC500 tour) Bedroom well equipped, reasonably spacious.

Minor niggle about bedroom/ ensuite. Glass shelf over washbasin had obviously been broken. Metal supporting frame was fixed to wall but no actual shelf. Maybe it had got broken by previous occupants, or maybe it had been broken for sometime? First impressions, are what you remember.
