Lovely characterful, old building with free parking. Central location. Comfortable room, that was clean and warm. Lovely decoration. Great staff.

Property … nothing! I did struggle to find the hotel car park though … I found a parking space nearby & phoned the hotel for (perfect!) directions. May I suggest the parking information be clearly included in Booking.com confirmation emails. The car park is behind the hotel and accessed via Mill Road (not using the hotel’s post code) …essentially, turn first right after turning uphill into Mill Lane from East Street.

The staff were friendly and helpful. The cooked breakfast was very good. Our only comment would be that it would be better served in the dining area rather than the bar so there would be more room. However, the quality and service overall were good. The room itself was comfortable, if a little small but the ensuite shower room was spacious and clean. The hot water pipes went through our room so it was very warm but a fan had been provided and we were able to open the window which made this more bearable. We were at the back of the property and it was lovely to fall asleep to the sound of the stream outside. For the price we paid we were extremely happy. Also the location was perfect for visiting Okehampton with access to the train station and Granite Way walk nearby.

As mentioned the room was very warm but because of the age and character of the property this is probably something difficult to avoid. Also unfortunately the kitchen was closed at short notice in the evening so we were unable to have a meal but there were other places nearby so this wasn't a real problem.

I was overwhelmed, The Fountain is by far the best hotel now in Okehampton and quite possibly the best restaurant. They were refurbished within the last year and have retained all the character, but made the place warm and comfortable. They even have a large carpark. We initially booked for three nights, but extended for a fourth. Breakfast was very good and we dined in the restaurant for three of the four nights.

I couldn't find fault with anything.

The location is spot-on; the place definitely has charm and is nicely decorated. The food was great, and the staff were always very friendly.

The top shower head was very mouldy. I had to wait a couple of times to be served (for dinner and two breakfasts). Saturday dinner with a full house was a tad chaotic. On both mornings, the chef was alone and had to manage everything by himself. Had I been on a tighter schedule, I would have appreciated a bit swifter service. Still, everyone was lovely, and I’m sure it was just a hiccup in the shift plan.

Central location with the convenience of a carpark. The rooms were nicely appointed with little touches like mint chocolates on the bedside tables. The breakfast menu was reasonably extensive and the food itself was freshly cooked and delicious. All of the staff we encountered were warm, friendly and professional.

The first room I was given had bathroom lights which were waiting for replacement and the bathroom was too dark to use so I was moved to another (bigger) room which was lovely but was right on the street and lacked privacy.

Room was larger than expected. The bar/restaurant was nice and reasonably priced. Breakfast - couldn't fault it. Staff were spot on. Friendly, helpful and could chat to them. 3rd time I've stayed in Okehampton. On future visits this will be my first choice

Kitchen closed at 8, but new chef and they were getting things into place so understandable.

We only stayed one night so this review is limited. This is a pub in a very old and quaint building which makes it a very interesting place to stay and Okehampton is a pleasant and interesting town. We stayed on a Saturday night so there was music in the bar until quite late - despite this we were not disturbed in our room by the noise which is a bonus for staying in a pub! The room was comfortable and the en suite fine. We would, however, make special mention of Tina who was marvellous. She was always very busy but still made time to make us very welcome and chat to us whilst attending to a very busy bar. Also despite looking after the bar until late, there she was all smiling serving all the B&B customers at breakfast - I asked her if she was a robot to have such stamina!!

A very minor quibble - the car park behind the pub was not easy to find and was rough & unpaved. In wet weather very wet & puddly underfoot

The staff were really friendly and helpful. The breakfast was excellent and the surroundings for it were comfortable. The ground floor areas of the hotel were reasonably smart, with options for sitting indoors or out. We ate in the hotel bar in the evening and found the food was well cooked and well presented. The room had a smart modern bathroom. We had been a bit concerned about road noise, but this didn't prove a problem.

Being an older building some parts of its decor were rather jaded, especially where the roof appeared to have leaked at some point in the past. Shortly after we had rung to book a table and confirmed that we were staying, we were surprised to received an e-mail asking us to confirm that we would be taking up our booking. The evening menu, whilst reasonable, did not have anything on it that was different enough from typical pub menus to tempt us to eat in for a second time.

Excellent bedroom, huge shower room, very clean and quiet. Food in the restaurant was excellent. The bar staff were great, very pleasant, chatty and helpful. On site parking was easy. Location was excellent for the town.

The only negatives was that the veg served at dinner was mixed frozen veg which was disappointing and did not match the quality of the rest of the meal.

Breakfasts were very good served by friendly staff. The family room was a very good size and suited our purposes very well. The location was great and allowed us to venture out on day trips in Devon and Cornwall.

Fresh fruit would have been a nice addition to the breakfasts. The large family room allowed for more furniture but there were only 2 chairs for 4 people and no luggage racks/counter space to place suitcases for easy access. The beds were very comfortable but no mattress protectors and the skimpy sheets on the single beds would not stay tucked in. The sheets were a nice fragrance free cotton though. Unfortunately there was a plumbing issue and we had no hot water for 24 hours.
