Lovely old hotel of character, ideally located in old town. Some comments refer to the neighbourhood being a bit debatable but it is quite safe. Remember you are in an old part of the city there will always be some people asking for money but there was never any problem. People also say there is no breakfast but breakfast is not included, however the hotel offer free coffee and croissant in the morning so no complaints there please ! It is a budget hotel, if you are looking for 4 star accommodation then book elsewhere and pay the much higher cost, if you are looking for character, good value and a brilliant location then this is for you.

The location is super great! 1 min walking to the Main independence plaza. The shopping street ( the old street that goes to the old port and market) also 1 min away. The hotel is located right at the intersection of the Old city and down town. Cozy building with gorgeous gate and elevator ( French style) with small rooms and separated bathroom, with a balcony. All cute but old and worn out. Clean but not pristine. After all I appreciated the location. Safe but after 8pm no people outside and everything closes. They don’t serve breakfast just a coffee with a pastries but there is a food store 2 min away “Fresh market”, where you can buy a cooked food to go as well as some groceries , it’s a good selection of everything( if you prefer to keep some in the room), it’s open late. no fridge in the room. But all is expensive in Uruguay, hamburger was $14. Not so many options for lunch or dinner, mostly fast food, like MCDonald.

Breakfast would help.

Central location in old town. Great value budget room. Coffee and pastries in morning even though price was room only. Clean. All necessities. Comfy bed. The hotel is like going back in time is you like vintage things such as the cage elevator. Friendly staff. 24 hour reception makes it feel safe. Balcony and high ceilings.

Very noisy both in the hotel and outside, at all times of day and night. Very basic but for the price that was ok. Not been modernized. Staff spoke no English or very little. It was a bit tiresome handing the key in every time I left the room - felt like I was being monitored. Really thin toilet paper!

Gracious elegante historic hotel in the old city, located within walking distance of Independencia Plaza, shops, restaurants, site-seeing, La Rambla waterfront. Beautiful architectural features and antique furnishings. Luxurious linens, thick soft white towels, comfortable beds. Access to balcony and rooftop terrace with views of the water, the old and new city.

At the entrance to the hotel and in the vicinity of the hotel we experienced issues with a panhandler who, on several occasions, harassed us for money. He became angry and aggressive when we refused. When we reported incidents to hotel management. The owner apologized and said hotel would take steps to increase security.

For those who like the style of old European cities, which Montevideo’s Ciudad Vieja itself is much alike, the Hotel Palácio embodies this very own concept all over. It was a great experience, from the old style elevator to the furniture and decoration of the whole building. For me, it was part of the experience of being in Montevideo. Furthermore, the room service is very nice, they changed towels and soap everyday, and the team was always there to help me find my way around the city. The location is another great factor, as I could reach some really important spots of the Oldtown by walking only a few meters, like Plaza Independenzia, the City Gate and the Teatro Solís. Totally recommend it to those who don’t mind a bit old style furniture and some cracks on the walls — for me, it was part of the Uruguayan charm.

-There was bit of noise on the Friday night with people outside the back of the hotel. Each instance didn’t last long but did disturb us. -The shower was great, but was just a rainfall head. We would have liked a handheld option too. -No breakfast option available. -The front door makes a buzzing sound every time someone opens it (to alert staff) which wasn’t great.

A really charming characterful old hotel in the heart of the city and in a quiet side street. My room was on the top floor and was a lovely surprise being bright and airy and having a delightful roof terrace with a partial view of the cathedral. The room was very clean and comfortable with a nice bathroom and shower. It had very high ceilings which showed some paintwork issues but this was easily overlooked for the charm of the place. The receptionists were very pleasant and smiley, and although they didn't speak English my basic Spanish got me through. I only stayed one night but I was very pleased with my choice and had a very pleasant sleep and stay. And the room was great value too.

Breakfast is just coffee and a few cakes so it's more of a light snack than a meal.

Location - the hotel is very well located which was helpful as we only had one night in Montevideo. You can wak easily to the ferry terminal. Buses from the bus terminal stop one minutes walk away. Make sure you have CHANGE for the bus as the drivers are reluctant to give change for large notes. There are plenty of shops restaurants and bars nearby. Safety - this felt a very safe area with single women and children walking around at 11.00pm. Hotel - the hotel itself is amazing with marble, ceiling coving, polished brass and wrought iron balconies. My favourite part was the lift which is a joy to see it has been preserved. The staff are very friendly. Rooms - there is a mini fridge which is essential in the heat. The bathrooms are large with a rain shower, shampoo, soap, hairdryer etc…. Wi fi - The wi fi worked well

The rooms would benefit from some fresh paint where people have bumped against the wall.

The location is perfectly central for all the main city attractions and sights. Secure Parking is available about 100 metres away at a cost 360 UR Pesos per day . Beds are comfortable , hot water and showers were good . The free hot coffee or tea and hot milk for self service along with pastries and medalunas were very appreciated by the guests , and is a nice touch for guests.

Some renewal of the doors , locks , baths and patios were needed. Clarity by Booking.com on the methods of payment to the hotel is needed to avoid embarrassment in payment method and currency acceptable and cash or card discounts .

Very good location in the very center of the city. It's easy to get to from the airport by direct bus for $2.50. The hotel is not new, but it's suitable for a couple of nights. The staff is very nice and friendly, though they don't speak English. However, with a Google translator, we had no issues. They don't offer breakfast at all in the hotel, but they offer tea, coffee, and delicious pastries in the morning, which was very appreciated. There is hot water with good pressure and also good Wi-Fi. It was also nice to have an elevator in the hotel so we didn't have to carry our luggage up the narrow stairs.

The soundproofing is poor, and it was cold, but there is a warm blanket and an air conditioner that heats the room.
